This time, the random thing I was looking at were these white, snowy pictures, and there was random red in them, like a cardinal or holley, etc. I didn't buy one, but I totally could have. Hallmark is one of those stores that I don't actually think I like, but then once you're in it, you realize you could spend hundreds of dollars without trying. I do prefer to buy cards here than at the grocery store. They have a good selection, and even have a good selection of 99 cent ones.

I had my husband with me, so I couldn't do the kind of walkthrough I wanted to do. But I made sure to check out their candle selection. I was really glad I did, they have every candle imaginable. Their prices were affordable. Definitely less expensive than ordering online. Plus it's nice to walk around and see all the options. They have an entire crystal and mineral section. I could have been in that store for hours. It had a family environment, parents shopping with their kids. If your kids are into metals, rocks, or crystals this spot is it. I wasn't looking but I'm sure they have D&D stuff and other fun gam I liked the store a lot. Some of these mystic shops have a witchy vibe, which isn't my thing. This place felt more wholesome. Something us old ancestral witches like. Lol I ended up buying several different types of candles, sage, and a Rose quartz for my meditation room. Next time, I go back. I will update with some pictures.

And if you're the owner of a metaphysical shop, do your research as to not sell goods that may be seen as disrespectful to large groups of people. Long version: Listen. You can get what you need most likely if you're spiritual from this shop, BUT-- there's a seeming lack of social responsibility that should concern my fellow respectful witches. They sell white sage and native/African cultural practice tools that are not appropriate for mass consumption. (Outside of people of those descents.) In their 7 day candle section there was an 'Indian power candle' referring to natives, along with the white smudge sticks and other tools of that nature. It is my understanding based upon the actual words of Native American people in the spiritual and witchcraft community that native sourced dream catchers and such ARE an appropriate thing to sell as long as actual Native Americans are the source of these goods and being compensated, but white sage is both unsustainable and not meant to be used outside of their closed practices. And using a native person as a mascot on your candle with the wrong terminology is beyond inappropriate.

I didn't even realize that I had stopped in on new release Tuesday, so I was especially delighted to find a whole bunch of books that had been on my list to find and purchase being freshly put on display in the front of the store. Lovely, welcoming, and service-minded staff that are happy to assist in all your book-related needs *OR* just let you wander the store aimlessly (as I did) to pick up anything that grabs your attention for purchase. Great selection of books and gifts, wonderfully organized, easily available street parking, and overall just such a gem of a shop. I especially loved the "blind date with a book" selections that came with little summaries of each book. I ended up with "Mystic River" after picking a psychological thriller with dark and emotional crime stories, estranged friendships / childhood trauma, murder investigations, and working class settings as my featured themes. I remember watching the movie years ago, but had never read the book... so now I'm super excited to dive in. TL;DR Setting the bar high on the independent bookstore scene in ROC. I'll be back to this location before too long, for sure.

Even though it's a children's book store, they also have a great selection of adult fiction and nonfiction books. The selection seems pretty well-rounded and unique in that there aren't many other bookstores in Rochester that sell children's books. Books were reasonably priced as well. Service was great and the cashier took some time to chat about my book choice even though they seemed to be having a bus day.

It's like going on a scavenger hunt within the bookstore. I loved digging through everything. Super inviting, inclusive, and friendly service. Loved checking out the noted "staff picks" on the shelves - picked up "Bury My Heart at Chuck E Cheeses" by Tiffany Midge thanks to reading one of the staff picks cards (I believe this pick was from Giles). Was also immediately drawn to a book called "F*cked Up Fairy Tales" by Liz Gotauco. Once I got to the register and everything got totaled up, I was also surprised at the amount - honestly, expected it to be quite a bit more expensive. I'll chalk that up to some great value for the books and various trinkets available here. TL;DR One of my new fave independent bookstores in the Rochester-area. I'll be back, for sure!
