First off, this part of the park is FREE. My two boys loved this park and had a ball for almost an hour. They were able to run and burn off so much energy. We were going to go to the pool area but it seems like it never opened. So we stayed in the free part of the park and enjoyed ourselves. After the boys were finished, we changed out of the wet clothes and took three trips around on the train. The boys also loved the ride and for only $1 each person, it was a bargain. I'm a fan of this excellent park. First off, it's Gastonia's first park. It's located not too far from the downtown area which makes it a good spot for a picnic lunch. At 18.5 acres, it's a nice spot with some tall shade trees and some wide open space. I am particularly impressed by the miniature railroad thing they have going on. While it was not running this afternoon, it looked like a whole lot of fun for kids and for the parents who are bringing them here. Permanent restroom building, picnic shelters, gazebo and huge playground, lighted concrete basketball court, water pad and a concession area. There is a ton of parking. Not the safest place to take your kids, lots of tweakers on the prowl. Gun violence in this area is also common.

Wasn't sure this place would truly be worth the 40+ min drive we made from south Charlotte, or $9 cost (for 3 ppl) when we have a free pool around the corner and Carowinds season passes.... and maybe it wasn't if you compare it like that?...... But honestly I'm really glad we went today! My 6yo son LOVED the water slide and repeatedly went down it for about 45 min. The look of glee on his face would be worth it alone! I also went down multiple times and enjoyed too! ----- ***must be 48in y'all to "ride", though my son is just at 47 and they let him take a swim test to prove it would be safe for him, and when he passed he was given a wrist band to wear showing he could ride. Lineberger Park is a great family park! I recommend it as a weekly summer activity for families. They have a shelter area for family gatherings, cookouts, or celebrating. There are grills for cooking and picnic tables. There is a cost to rent the shelter but it is very affordable. There is a great splash pad for the children. It is free. They also have the community swimming pool with the wade entry. read more

We went to Lineberger Park for the public pool. The pool has a charge of $3 and it does have a lazy river, a few slides, some water sprayers for the little ones, and a lap pool for the bigger ones. There are no umbrellas in the areas out of the pool and no pool chairs. You can rent a chair for $1, but they are not the nicest chairs... The lazy river was cool and my kids enjoyed the water sprayers; however, the water was a little cloudy and there were lots and lots of floaties in the water (more and more the longer we were in the pool). Started getting pretty grossed out, so we decided to hit the free spray ground right out in front of the pool. Just to give an idea of the people in the area, a lady came out of the bathroom with a small child in her arms yelling aloud "whose baby is this?" Also took advantage of the train ride for $1. The train goes in a circle around the park and you go around 3 times. The kids enjoyed it. read more

Sewage smell and trail under creek is always flooded can't even walk there would not give one star

According to the County website there are 2 pools in Gastonia. I tried the one in Lineberger Park. The website is not clear that the "sessions" are times for "free" swimming for the public, I thought it was for some swimming classes, because I imagine the area being big enough for sharing between public and classes. No. Instead, sessions are time frames for the public to be in the pool. If you want to spend the whole day in, you need to get out, wait, pay AGAIN and then go back to the pool. I also thought that the time between sessions would be for cleaning the pool or something like it. Wrong again, the pool is so filthy that the goggles get oily and blurry quickly. I had to wash them twice with soap and water, thank God there was one container with soap in the bathroom. There are NO water fountains, but for 25 cents you can get a refillable cup will ice but (Always a catch), you have to wait once more, to get someone to refill it for you. I felt like I was back in Nazi Germany, with the secret police watching me while I tried to have some fun with my family. If the Park People were really concerned where people are jumping from (Which it shouldn't: the deepest part of the pool is 5'00", and there are walls too close to each other at the "slimy" river) They should paint the areas bright pink or orange; place signs of NO WALKING on such a areas and maybe the lifeguards should not walk there neither, some of the children are unsupervised and they do as they see. The ticket sign should be visible from the parking lot, not just from the walking trail; some of us drive vehicles and are NOT psychics. Walking back and forth for no reason is obnoxious. I wish someone from the county would read this. I would like some pricing information about the food the concession stand offers. And last but not least, how about cleaning the Splash Pad? It looks like a dirty fish tank with green algae and mildew, the children wanted to stop there after leaving the "hairy" pool and I assumed they could be without sandals; it's amazingly disgusting that they cannot afford some bleach and a brush to keep the children area clean. Took my 9 year old to the pool and the ticket seller would not sell her a ticket because she was under 12. I was going into the pool area with her but the kid selling tickets said i would hsve to go into the pool with her. Been going there for years without any problems. Whats going on. read more

Lineberger is a large park with two primary playground areas. Some of the jungle gym equipment is really unique: a giant rope climbing jungle gym, a giant spinning wheel and small cups you can sit in and spin. There are walking trails throughout the park with Talking Tree exhibits. Unfortunately, they name all the sponsors first, so you have to listen to a bunch of garbledy gook before hearing about the tree. Up on a hill there's a large pool with waterslide and a sprinkler area the kids can run through (opens during the summer). There are Baggie stations everywhere to pick up after your dog. I remember thinking how clean this place was until a Chihuahua copped a squat and dropped a deuce right next to me (thanks!) and its preteen owner couldn't be bothered to pick it up. Signed kids up for swimming lessons here again and the life guard only taught lessons for 20 min (10 of those minutes he wasn't in the pool) then my kids played for a few and they shut the pool down 15 minutes early... supposed to be hour long lessons..got my money back after dealing with rude recreation department read more

The splash pad and swimming pool are the two best things about this park. My children enjoy going to both. The actual playgrounds are alright but don't entertain my children for long. The only down side to this particular park is there are at times what seems like gang activity and homeless people wondering around. I definitely don't suggest going later in the evening. read more

I go here often summer is amazing. The splash park and swimming pool are great. It's always busy which is good. I wish people would have put books back so kids can continue to read at the park!! But love the train and the way it's set up in different areas for age groups. They took water fountains out on lower level not sure why but they have park benches against...so their homeless people will be back just like before they remodeled. We shall see read more

Took my children to the pool. (Ages two and six) Really fun for them both. Zero entry wading area, lazy river, super duper slide. Lots of life guards on duty and super attitude from all the staff. The locker rooms were kind of yuck but I don't think I've ever been to a pool locker room that wasn't. Definitely worth it to spend an extra dollar to rent a lounge chair. With my kids we don't do much sitting but the lounger was a great elevated landing spot for our stuff to keep it from getting flooded and so I could keep an eye on it while we were in the pool. read more
