I've been to Montreal many times, and have walked around where this shop is, but never actually noticed Candylabs. I only discovered them when my brother and sister-in-law got me 2 packs of candies from them as part of my Christmas present. The candies they got me were so cute. They were shaped like little sushi rolls and even came with mini chopsticks, lol. The ones that looked like Futomaki were strawberry-kiwi flavour. The ones that looked like Salmon Maki were grapefruit flavoured. The candies were crunchy and really tasty! And so cute! In addition to their bricks and mortar store in Montreal, they sell their candies online as well, which is how my brother and sister-in-law bought them. I went to their website, and the candies are a bit pricey, like the sushi candy bags are $6.99 each. However, they are handmade and they source most of their ingredients from Canadian suppliers. Apparently they also make custom candies. Which I imagine would be great promotional materials for companies and also the cutest wedding favours for couples getting married. Looking forward to a time when I can go back to Montreal and go to the bricks and mortar store and check out their candies.

There are a LOT of choices for the candies - you can either do the "pick your own" for $2.75/g or there are prepackaged sweets, candies, Haribo, and COMBOS. Everything is reasonably priced and they even have a delivery option (through Shopify/their website!) The man running the store was super friendly and knew his product really well. He was really excited to tell us about COMBOS, since I had chosen it out of curiosity. He says that they're the only ones in Montreal who carry combos, among telling us about how the ingredients include real cheese. Oh my goodness, he was right about how delicious these stuffed pretzel bites were. I'm thinking about them now and thinking about the next time I'll visit just to pick up a bag! They also have a nice selection of ice cream bites and ice creams. I'll be back for the ice cream bites to try as well as more bags of combos!

But even if you don't have an uber-sweet tooth, this little shop is worth walking through, because the closest thing to it in the states is that ground-floor, overpriced bulk candy shop at the mall that has too many jelly beans and gummy candy. Blech. Enter Oscar's, and you'll see a partial wall of bulk wrapped/unwrapped candies (Think Brach's.) and truffles; another of bulk cookies (Remember Mother's Cookies?) cased in neat, little rows; shelves of pre-packaged cheap and quality commercial candies and chocolates; and several small islands heaped with loose and pre-packed bulk goodies, pre-packed cookies, what looks like homemade candy (like nut cluster logs, I think) packaged/weighed like pre-cut meat at the grocer's, and then more commercial candy/chocolate...including a few jelly beans. There are even loaf-pan sized molds of fudge (above the truffles) on little platters that I believe a clerk may need to cut for you. Aside from feeling like I've died and gone to heaven because of the sheer number and variety of sweets that they've managed to stuff into a rather small space, the prices help keep you on cloud 9 too.
