I've been a patient for almost 10 years. Every time I called I've never been able to see the Dr the same day. There are two simple reasons: 1) Scheduler doesn't allocate enough slots for current patients who have pressing medical needs 2) Dr has limited schedule and only works 30hrs a week. To compare, my kid's pediatrician has always accommodated same day appointments. I've asked him how he's able to do this and it's quite simple. Scheduling and the amount of hours he puts in. The staff here is good at telling people to call their Urgent Care. That's where the money maker is. These doctors don't have to work 40 hours or more or have a quota of patients to see a week. They get paid regardless. There's no reason for them to work longer days and accommodate their current patients. Saving the best for last. Was suffering from major pains and asked Dr for recommendation. Staff called back and said Dr isn't able to provide any because she hasn't seen me in almost 4 years. I laughed so hard. Good luck getting an appointment.

I went to see Dr. O'Regan yesterday for a new patient exam. I indicated to the scheduling staff…read morethat I was experiencing severe neck and shoulder pain and needed to see the doctor. It has always been my understanding through the Anthem Blue Cross HMO system that if a patients wants a referral to a specialist, they can do so, but first must meet with their PCP. So while at first Dr. O'Regan seemed friendly, towards the end of my very short 15-minute appointment, she managed to leave a very bad first impression. So much so that I sat on the exam table in utter disbelief that a doctor of her "maturity" could be so apathetic towards a patient. Before deciding to switch to another PCP, I asked myself these questions. What sort of doctor would refuse your request to see a specialist when you've stated you've had chronic joint pain? Instead, Dr. O'Regan said she's determine my pain was solely muscular and that I didn't need a referral. I have never had a PCP refuse my request for a referral. What sort of doctor would refuse to write a letter to your employer to request certain work area accommodations be made to reduce your muscular pain (chronic or not)? Again, this wasn't a difficult request and it certainly wouldn't have taken Dr. O'Regan more than a couple of minutes to write. What sort of doctor would refuse to answer questions of a concerned patient who asks for her doctor's professional advice? Instead, Dr. O'Regan said she didn't have time because she had a busy schedule and that answering my question would require me to make another appointment for an office visit! I even explained to her that I worked in SF and try to minimize the time away from work. The time it took for her to explain why she couldn't answer my questions was enough time to answer most of my concerns to begin with! I have NEVER had a doctor tell me she didn't have time for me. How can she be a doctor with this attitude? I also shared my negative experience with my work colleagues, friends, and husband and the consensus was that if Dr. O'Regan could be so cold by showing more concern about the number of patients she had to see in the day (that's managed healthcare for you!) rather than show empathy and concern for her patient sitting in front of her, she would be unlikely to show empathy or concern for me in the future. No problem here, Dr. O'Regan. I will gladly give up my spot on your exam table for the next unlucky patient who doesn't value her time as much as I do. Bye-bye

Coming from a country where you walk into your family doctor's office and would be seen in 20 minutes, figuring out how to utilise my medical insurance was a challenge, but it was all worth it because I found Dr. Threewitt. She was extremely kind and informative, very good at giving information according to the patient's background--after I told her I took psychophysiology in college, she began talking about the quit-smoking drugs in a way that is more technically satisfying and therefore time consuming than I expected a hurried and busy American doctor would be willing to do. The staff was wonderful. As mentioned before, I am completely, actually PAINFULLY, ignorant of the American medical system. I was full of exceedingly strange questions and was dumbfounded when they were answered. Whenever the nurse returned, I'd ask the poor dear sweet girl about the forms, "what exactly are they asking me in this legally correct but logically contradictory sentence?" Never once did she frowned at me or threaten to kicked me out of the office. Bless her. Another thing that I found very wonderful is that the office was willing to work with my time line (the internship did not leave me months to wait for an available appointment).

Over the 10 years, she has been nothing but helpful, informative and always willing to sit and explain things to me in detail or answer any questions I have! She has always referred me to the right doctors, if a specialist is needed, and they've always been great referrals; I trust her COMPLETELY with my health and body. To address the person who accused her of being a pill pusher- I realize that review was posted back in 2011, but even back then, that comment is so far from the truth! I was diagnosed with a pinched nerve and fairly severe arthritis in my back in 2006. Dr. Threewitt, before even offering any type of pain prescription, pushed me to go to physical therapy and also gave me exercises to do at home to help alleviate the pain. As the years passed, the physical therapy was not helping as much and I REQUESTED that some sort of pain medication be prescribed to me to help me get through my day or sleep better at night. Even when I requested this, she still tried to suggest other options other than prescription drugs, she expressed to me her concerns about addiction and the damage that prescription pain pills could do to my internal organs. She really did everything in her power to keep me from using prescription meds for my back. So, I know first hand, she is NOT a pill pusher in any way. I absolutely love her, I feel like she's a part of my extended family, I am always happy to see her and never feel embarrassed to ask any questions, I feel more comfortable with her than any doctor I have ever been to and would recommend her to anyone who asked for a referral to a fantastic doctor!

Dr. Chow-Kwan really takes the time to listen to you, asks excellent questions relating to your visit and is an all around great person and great Doctor. One of my favorite traits of Dr. Chow-Kwan is that she will not just refer to you to a specialist for a strange problem. Both my wife and I have had some strange, one-off (non-chronic) medical issues that Dr. Chow-Kwan has taken a keen interest in and treated wonderfully. I feel very comfortable with her care, methodology and experience. When Dr. Chow-Kwan is not there, you can feel comfortable seeing any of the other Doctors in the practice. They are all great and in the same league with Dr. Chow-Kwan. The office is always well staffed, works out digital prescriptions with you favorite pharmacy, is courteous and will work with you to get you in if you are sick. Oh, and one other thing, I have never had a Doctor call me after a trip to the ER until I joined Dr. Chow-Kwan's practice. I seem to end up in the ER more often then the average (but again, for one-off strange items!) and when Dr. Chow-Kwan called me to follow up, I was blow away. I highly recommend Dr. Chow-Kwan and would be happy to talk more with anyone considering a great Family Practice and Internal Medicine Doctor off line. Just drop me a note!

It is likely that the spine in my neck sustained significant damage which was discovered via MRI after the insurance case was closed. The spinal injury radiates down my shoulder. The first time I experienced this was right after the car accident. Now I am absorbing the cost of medical mistakes once again. So far it has cost me $3000 in lost wages and likely $8000 in medical cost. It will likely cost me several more thousands in lost wages. A simple 3 minutes assessment and some imaging would have prevent this. I just paid off another medical error that cost me $5000, that could have been prevented by a doctor at her practice. Her response-pay payments-knowing full well that I have previously experienced additional financial loss due to medical errors. It took me 6 years to go back to the doctor after the first experience, only to experience more preventable errors from her and her office. Correct medical records could have help me recover emotionally, physically, and financially from previous medical errors. She said she wanted to advocate for me and help. The next breath she threw me under the bus. She was angry how I was treated by previous providers, then turns around and does the same thing, but worse. On a level from 1-10 mental anguish due to medical errors and lack of accountability from those who brush off valid concerns and cause intentional additional trauma is about 10000000/10. I am so done absorbing the cost of incompetence. I really wish we had a competent medical board in CA to take valid concerns.
