Case in point; last Christmas I was looking for a nice ribbon to wrap my gifts with. I couldn't find what I was looking for anywhere, until I popped into Poundland and found three metres of the nicest ribbon I had seen so far for only a pound. Poundland isn't one of those scabby pound shops filled with junk either. It is clean, brightly decorated and the staff are helpful. Oh dear, I've just realised I've turned into one of those people who go on about how great pound shops are. Next I'll be wearing tracksuit bottoms outdoors.

I think the name says it all really, items all priced at a pound and therefore I feel it needs to be judged for what it is, it's not Harrods, so I'm amazed why so many people turn their noses up at these shops, it's not as if they're trying to be something they're not. The items they sell are a pound so big deal if some of it's tat? It can actually be quite amusing looking at some of the items they stock, such as crazy multi coloured feather dusters and £1 DVDs. I saw one a while ago that was a Halloween DVD and the stories were "House on The Haunted Hill" and "The Skeletons" oooohhh, they looked as though they were made by some lonely old guy with his home video camera. I kind of regret not buying it as I'm sure the comedy factor would have been awesome. I usually get really into the spirit of Halloween and Poundland is great for decorations, they have all sorts of things and I even noticed they had some rubbery severed limbs last year which looked hilarious. This is the same for Christmas party decorations and things for Birthday parties, especially if you have children you can get party bags and goodies to fill them with here. Overall, Poundland stocks the kind of items you would expect but it's not all tat in this shop and for household goods and party accessories this is a great shout.

this shop has actually moved to the high street, falkirk. it is in the old co-op building opposite…read morethe entrance to the callander square shopping centre. they have a sale on at the moment and i was in looking for a new duvet set, they had a huge selection of some weird and wonderful colours, so they would have something to suit everyone. they were at a great price too. when paying for the item, there was only 1 girl serving, but she really was lovely, she appologised for the wait. i also asked if i could leave my purchases with her as i still had some shopping to do and that was fine, so all in all, it was a good experience. they have all sorts of other home wares on sale too.

However, recently I visited this branch of Home Bargains and found it is a veritable treasure trove. The variety is astounding and the prices...they're not as cheap as Poundland, but then they generally stock higher quality items at amazingly low prices. I went in there with my wife expecting to look around, spend nothing and walk away. Instead I spend just short of £20 and came out with three carrier bags full of things from gifts for my mother's birthday to board games to mugs to stationery. I wouldn't say that there's something for everyone in the store, but there's definitely plenty for most people and the only danger from going in is to your wallet. The staff are...well, I've learned to lower my expectations of staff in retail outlets these days, but compared to some of the shops I've visited recently they're more than adequate and moderately helpful. The manager of the store, however, is brilliant, and more than happy to put things aside for you if they're not in stock when you visit so you can pick them up next time you're in. Not perfect, but for what it is it's as good as it gets.

This branch is fresh, clean and not stuffy like other branches of Bodycare. The staff are nice and friendly and the prices are excellent. Situated in Abronhill shopping centre it is convinient and offers a wide range of services, from buying a stamp to renewing your road tax and lots more besides. The shop itself is small and tends to seam a bit dark and dated but the staff are polite and helpfull. It is accessable to wheelchair users but like most Post Offices the counters are a bit high for them to conduct their bussiness comfertably.
