Staff reluctantly printed a document in extremely tiny, illegible print. When I explained that at 60 years old I needed readable text to understand what I was signing, my concerns were dismissed with comments that "this is what all our patients do." * Lack of Transparency & Patient Autonomy: After waiting past my scheduled appointment time, I asked to speak with Dr. J, only to be informed he had left due to a medical emergency. Staff openly admitted their standard practice is to wait until a patient is already seated in the dental chair before disclosing a provider swap. Withholding information about a provider change until a patient is already in the treatment chair removes patient autonomy and puts unfair pressure on them to accept a doctor they have never met. Thankfully, they provided me with the information for Carmel Family Dentistry! I saw the great reviews for this practice and was sold. I called Carmel Family Dentistry and was able to get an appointment within the next 6 weeks. Scheduling was a breeze - I was provided several different options, received a reminder text a week prior, and confirmation text the week of the appointment. They also verified my insurance and ensured everything was good to go for my appointment day. When arriving, they had all of my paperwork ready and I was taken back for service as soon as I finished. My hygienist, Missy, was very friendly and explained everything along the way. Dr. Worthington came in for the final check and she was great as well. She sat down and went over all of my X-rays in detail, explaining what she saw and sharing her recommended next steps. I felt the need to get a second opinion, and went to Carmel Family Dentistry. They told me I had one cavity. I've been with them ever since. At my old dentist, I felt like I was at a used car salesman, they were constantly trying to get me to buy additional out of pocket services. Carmel Family Dentistry has never made me feel like that. I have 5 children and although they are definitely willing to help when I have to have kids with me during my appointment, I wouldn't say I necessarily recommend this office for young children's appointments. I have taken my children here, but would recommend a pediatric dentist where there is a children's friendly waiting room and dental staff who routinely work with young children. Overall, I love this dental office and Dr. Tiek is knowledgeable and friendly. I have had a few "emergency" dental issues and he has promptly addressed my issues after hours. I had a terrible toothache and found this place online. The receptionist, Susan was very kind to me…read morefrom the very first interaction. I was in so much pain and she was very sweet to me and was able to schedule me in right away. She made sure that I felt taken care of. I got the tooth extracted and it was very uncomfortable, but I got through it. Both the dentist and assistant were kind and patient with me. A couple days after, I woke up in excruciating pain and thought I had a dry socket, but when I looked, I could see the infection was all underneath the gums and inside of my mouth. The extraction site was fine. I immediately thought, "I need an antibiotic! Why didn't she give me one?" I called the office and explained to Susan what happened and she put me on hold and talked to the doctor. Turns out, they won't give me an antibiotic unless the doctor sees me first. That annoyed me. I went in the next day and sure enough, just needed an antibiotic. That second trip and a heck of a lot of pain and discomfort could have been completely avoided had the first dentist who extracted my tooth sent me home with an antibiotic in the first place.

Later, another dentist discovered multiple retained tooth fragments in the extraction site, as well as an infection and a completely failed bone graft that required additional treatment. I still have the actual tooth fragments that were removed after being left behind in my gum during the procedure. What is most disappointing is not only what happened, but the complete lack of response from the clinic. I have repeatedly contacted both Dr. Sevara and the clinic administration, providing X-rays, examination results, and detailed information about my case. My emails and requests have been ignored. Patients deserve honest answers, professional communication, and accountability when serious complications occur. Unfortunately, in my case, the clinic has chosen to ignore both the problem and my repeated attempts to resolve it. To this day, neither Dr. Sevara nor the clinic administration has provided any response to my complaint.
