I went here to have collision scratches buffed out of a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek earlier this year. They did a great job at a great price but then decided they would detail my car as well. As a result they caused unrepairable damage to the finish on the center console and some exterior trim parts. When I discussed this with them, they couldn't understand why I didn't appreciate the bonus work. I explained they don't advertise these services and so what made them feel qualified to do that kind of work? In addition they did not ask my permission to do so. I really wanted this to be a place I could go since it's close to my house. DEFINITELY DON'T RECOMMEND them especially without setting clear boundaries with them about what they are going to do to your car. read more

Beware... this shop does not do body work. They glue things instead. I brought my car in for some issues, one of them being a cracked mount on one of my side mirrors. I was hoping to get it replaced, but he looked at it and assured me he could 'glue it' with some 'special glue' he had. I reluctantly agreed because I needed it fixed before an upcoming trip. One day after picking up my car I happened to bump the side mirror, while moving a box in my garage, and the mirror promptly fell off. Upon inspecting his 'special glue' job I could barely see residue from the glue. Looks like he used something like super glue you get at the dollar store. WTF? At a minimum wouldn't you use some kind of epoxy? I ended up re-gluing it myself with Gorilla Glue and it's still attached after a 1500 mile round trip to WV. He charged me $55 for his 'special glue' job. When I went into the shop today to tell him what happened he gave me nothing but flack, and told me how thoroughly he tested it afterwards. I don't think I'll take my car here again. He does a competent job on mechanical issues, but is rather over priced. read more

A lady scuffed up my Lexus bumper in a parking lot recently. First I brought my car to a place that had fancy facilities, a Kurig in the waiting room, and big screen TVs. Then I came to Lindems who did the job for 40 percent less. They were extremely fast and the workmanship was amazing. This is the only mechanic I have ever fully trusted , my last vehicle an 01 eclipse gt was a disaster, fixed multiple times from typical issues with someone who puts on a ton of miles on my various road trips to see different states. Everytime I price shopped and every time it was cheaper! And the work is fast , and sometimes even cheaper when you let them take all the time they need. The owner is one of the nicest guys I've ever met and truely cares about his customers. It's not a very upscale place , but hidden in an area that has some questionable areas around it, it is a Hidden Gem of a man who put down roots and made a successful buisness by not killing people on costs and providing QUALITY and excellence! My initial review stands, but I keep going back and need to reiterate it some more. The mechanic I used from the age of 16 to 21 was a close family friend, and when I started moving to different cities, I never expected to find a trusted home again. This is not merely the best mechanic in Milwaukee, it's the best mechanic between Minneapolis and Boston. Not just engine mechanics, either. Body shop and used car trading. I've used the body shop on two occasions. One time, I was broke and needed a quick fix, so he patched me up enough to be passable. Another time, I had unlimited funds through insurance and he made it perfect. On that occasion, I had to appease the insurance company by seeking quotes. Concours was $7000, someone else was $4500, and Lindem's was $2500. Even though Concours was the approved site for my vehicle model and even though it "wasn't my money", I still chose Lindem's. The used car selection is not the market I'm in, but I once gave a vehicle to a friend for cheap. When Ark learned it was gone, he said he would have given me x for it, and I don't talk to that friend anymore. One time, he had a decommissioned ambulance that I totally wanted for the Zombie Apocalypse. I will elucidate upon my opposition to their no-self defense policy. I can respect a business owner's right to regulate what customers bring inside, but this isn't a grocery store where I can leave equipment locked in a safe in the car. I drop the vehicle off and have to walk or bus to work and home, so this policy disarms me for the entire day. As an unpaid voluntary first responder, I prefer every option available in case of emergency. It is a little difficult to notice, but is conveniently located across Capitol from Outpost Natural Foods Co-Op. From the west, take a right on Palmer. It was time for my registration renewal/emissions check and it was my first time going about it after the state of WI had contracted it out to private inspection facilities. I was nervous because, well, there is that stigma with car mechanic shops and I was concerned that I may not get as fair of a shake now that I wasn't having my emissions checked by a state facility. I had a look around at places near work and home, called my regular mechanic to see if they had a place that they would recommend, but their recommendations were somewhat far from my usual stomping grounds. Then had a look at nearby places on google reviews and yelp. The larger chain stops weren't fairing well when it came to emission testing, but Lindem's, a locally owned shop looked to be doing rather well. So, I said why not, it was near work and gave it a shot and I couldn't have made a better choice. I was in and out. The staff was so professional and courteous. I was also in need of a flat tire repair and they were more than willing to square that away once things were completed with my emission testing. It is hard to find a mechanic that you can trust, I have been driving across town to a shop that both my father and I have been trusting with our auto service for years because they had earned our trust and have never done us wrong. This will definitely be my place to have my emmisions checked and just might be a place that I may go to now because of how great of an experience I had with this visit. You know that guy who works out of his garage and he's fabulous and specializes in keeping things running and you gotta find him? That's Lindem's (with a bigger garage of course). I used to have a guy like this in Chicago, Omar at O & J Auto but he's retired and I moved. We brought our 15-year old car with low mileage and asked him to give us "this has to be done, this should be done, this can wait" estimate, cuz we figured the engine has a lot of life left in it. He talked us through it, and the work we decided to do came in UNDER price and ON TIME. ALSO, check this out - his work is guaranteed for a year! And they are part of a nation-wide auto repair network (not linked to any auto insurance company) that means if you are on the road, his guarantee will be honored by a shop where you happen to be. Arkady, his wife, the workers -- everyone is really trustworthy, you can tell they take pride in what they are doing, and Arkady is a charmer. I have only wonderful things to say about Ark and Anna and the service provided at Lindems. I was in a car accident and needed to decide on the spot where to have my car towed. I'm so glad the Internet gods led me to Lindems! They provided a very fair estimate in a reasonable amount of time that they emailed to me with photos and part & labor rates. They communicated regularly with both me and my father. My insurance company was fairly difficult to work with but Anna and Ark did not hold that against me, which I think many people would have. The work was done well at a great price and in a reasonable time frame. I've been back twice for little things I noticed while driving the car and Ark has stopped his work to fix my small problems (e.g., windshield wipers) in 5-10 minutes with no additional charge so that I could be on my way. I hate getting into car accidents. It is always a hassle. I got hit in Trader Joe's parking lot (fender bender) as I backed out of my space and started to get out of the way. Bad place for parking. I went through the other person's insurance company (stay away from Progressive Insurance if you can - dishonest, unethical, and should be considered illegal). However, getting my car fixed with Ark at Lindem's helped ease the pain. What do you expect when you go to the body shop to get a repair? He looked at the car, gave me a verbal quote in less than 5 minutes. I took the car in two days later (fast service). The damage was repaired so it looked like new (good quality). I'm really picky and nervous about mechanics of course, like most people. I love Lindems, though. It's quirky and dirty, which is totally fine with me. They're efficient, nice enough, and cheap. I just had a check engine light on, and they told me exactly what was wrong and gave me a timeline for when I needed to get what fixed. Positives: The owner, Ark seems like a (mostly) honest hard working guy. He's a master of execution at a busy shop, and he does not overcharge for the work he does. I really want to like him, but this shop has MAJOR problems. Negatives: He does NOT listen, and does not respect the customers wishes. I used to be a mechanic apprentice when i was in high school 15 years ago. I know some stuff about cars, but don't have time to wrench on them anymore, so I hired Ark. I made him a written list of exactly what I wanted done: 0) exhaust pipe rusted through and muffler is hanging, replace as needed. 1)The driver side lower caliper pin is seized- unseize it, so I can fit new pads in there. 2)Car won't start in the rain, replace distributor cap/wires/plugs 3)Rear tire has a leak, replace two rear tires with new ones. 4)Oil Change/air Filter replacement 5)Investigate clunking noise that happens in hard right turns (CV Joint?). I dropped it off on a Monday morning. I called monday afternoon for a status update and pricing. He said he was busy and some parts wouldn't be in until Tuesday, so call back then. I called back Tuesday at 12:30 for pricing. He said he was on lunch and would call with pricing after lunch. He didn't call back. I called him at 3:00. His assistant said- oh the work is all done pick it up at 5:00. I again asked about pricing and she said she still did not know. At this point- MAJOR RED FLAGS were going off in my head, but the work I asked for needed to be done, I know how much it should cost, so I thought, OK whatever. When I get there to pick it up, Ark says, "Rotors were shit, and pads were only replaced on one side, so I did full brake job and maintenance on brakes." He also said, instead of doing the tune up stuff, I should just spray water sealant goopy crap all over the distributor cap and wires because its cheaper. He did the other stuff on the list. At this point, I'm SUPER pissed, but still polite. I KNEW the rotors needed replacement. I can replace rotors and pads myself. The (high end) pads for the driver side were sitting on the floor in the front of the car. But he didn't use them- he charged me for a new set. I wanted him to fix the caliper pin. That's all. But WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION, he did the whole thing. Well, now its the next day, I'm out $700, and its raining, so the car won't start and I can't go to work. I call him up, explain the situation, and I'm thinking maybe we can work something out where we tow the car to his shop and he does a tune up correctly. Instead he says, just go get the spray sealant crap from Auto Zone. REALLY!? That'd be f'ing great if I could drive to Auto Zone, wouldn't it? Bottom line: If you know NOTHING about cars, he's the cheapest in town and probably does the work correctly, but he only does the work that HE wants to be done. I'll probably call my bank and dispute the charges- more hassle that I don't need. read more

My rear brakes were making a scrubbing sound. After researching auto repair shops, I chose Lindems because of the positive reviews. I explained my situation and the mechanic said he would call me to let me know exactly what the problem was and the cost. I waited two days, no call. On the third day I was a little concerned so I called them. The mechanic said. That there was nothing wrong with the brakes except for rust, but, that my suv was running rough because of a vacuum leak which they were in the process of trying to locate. Something I had not asked them to do, but had no choice because they had begun working on it. They said I could pick it up the next day. The next day they said the engine was still apart. The following day, I go to get my suv. He charged me roughly $250 for doing me a favor I hadn't asked for. Then he reassured me that my brakes were fine; that my frame was rusted out and not to drive it in the winter. Going home, my brakes were scrubbing worse than before and there was still a vacuum leak. I gave my brother a ride, and he said, "there's something wrong with your brakes." You think? It just so happened our cousin, who is a mechanic, was in town that day. He took a look at the brakes and they were a disaster waiting to happen, and replaced everything. He said they probably didn't want to work on the brakes because of the rust, which they should have told me, instead of lying to me. To add insult to injury, when they "put my suv back together" they failed to reconnect my temperature gauge. I'm giving them a 1 because there is no symbol for 0. read more

I have taken 2 cars to Lindems for a few years because they are cheap. I was fine with the somewhat unsavory business practices that I saw going on (using super cheap parts) because I was always treated well. I took my car in to get the wheel check out. A day later I received a call and Ark said that the car was completed and I should come pick it up. When I got to the shop he showed me an over $300 bill. I did not authorize any of the repairs. He became belligerent at me because I was upset that they did work without prior authorization. This is actually against the law in the state of Wisconsin. I had to pay them because they were holding my car hostage. The rudeness and illegal things done at this shop have made me switch to another auto repair facility. Recently had some car issues that had all piled up together. First mechanic I went to gave me an estimate that seemed high and I decided to do some research and get some other quotes. On the advice of a friend I took it to Lindems and was given a quote of less than half what my first was. There was no exorbitant mark up on parts and they were honest about everything. Even when I inquired about a repair that I had previously been told I needed, I was told we will check again but "We only fix what needs fixing". So instead of being told I needed inner and outer tie rods, ball joints, and a new power steering pump I found out just the power steering and inner tie rods needed replacing. And the power steering cost less for the whole repair than what 'the other guy' told me the part cost. Also family owned and treat you well. I cant count the number of times I've talked to a mechanic who talked down to me about car repairs. These guys have the opposite tact and they will have my business for as long as I live in the area. read more
