We were driving through Warwick, NY, this afternoon on Route 17A, and saw this large corner…read moreproperty with a sign declaring it to be Warwick House of Antiques. (Parking is around back, accessed from Orchard St. - see http://www.warwickhouseantiques.com/ for more info.) When I walked in, I was greeted by one of the owners (well, I assume she is one of the owners), who told me that the store was the entire first floor, and to enjoy looking around. She said if I had any questions, I could ask her, but she wasn't pushy and didn't hover. So I really could enjoy looking around! The first thing I noticed was an entire cabinet of Skookum Dolls, from the 1920s to 1940s. I wasn't familiar with them, but having seen the name at Warwick House of Antiques, I googled it and now I know about them. (See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skookum_doll if you are as curious as I am?) This shop is well organized, and all of the merchandise is labelled, so you know exactly what you are looking at. They obviously know their business. Besides the Skookum Dolls, the other things I particularly noticed were: many vintage Japanese robes, jackets, and textiles; lots of Japanese paintings and other items; paintings; bottles; vintage lead miniatures of soldiers, ice skaters, and animals; some stereo viewer slides; Murano glass; a Stangl plate; furniture (both Asian and American); an antique fire extinguisher; Shenango China Inca Ware Nestle cups and saucers; crocheted doilies; jewelry; interesting expensive pocketbooks; Japanese swords; porcelain figurines; and even a carved jade figurine. Don't expect to walk in here and get something cheap because they don't know what it is; they know exactly what they are selling, and will sell it to you for a fair price. On some of the more expensive items (such as a Ward's Lime Syrup Dispenser) they have documentation to show what the item goes for on eBay and similar sites. Warwick House of Antiques is worth a trip!
