I decided to take a break and that's when I found AVS! It's very hidden in park ridge located across from the metra tucked behind a closed street. Thanking them for their website where I was able to read personal bios and reviews and figured out that Amy Doda was my best option. What really drew me to her was reading other reviews how she will cut your hair as close to pictures as possible. Upon entering, I was greeted and I was heard! She understood the assignment and I love that she's a visionary, she can picture everything in her head beforehand. We had good casual convo and I really liked how the haircut turned out. It's really tough to find a good hairdresser these days and I think this has been the best one I've found to date in or around park ridge! The owner is also extremely friendly! Highly recommend!

I also want to give a shout out to the most fabulous Cat - she gives an amazing shampoo and she is just a pure bundle of joy. Nothing I did would make them seem less stringy and they kept separating in the wrong spots. The person who was cutting my hair just kept saying well you're getting older and sometimes hair changes texture. But Arissa said hey your bangs haven't been being cut properly. She cut them properly, and now just a day or two later, I get out of the shower and they're perfect without me even doing anything. I get finished swimming and just run my fingers through my hair because I forgot my brush and they look great! My hair is truly wash and go now and apparently age and hair texture had nothing to do with it! I only wish I lived there so I could have Arissa always cut my hair! Unfortunately I was in from out of town. Now I know I'm going to have to find someone new here, because I don't want to hear it's my hair texture and my age when actually you're just cutting my bangs wrong. Thank you Arissa! I feel gorgeous thanks to you

You can even specify a hairstylist should you have a preference. Someone from the salon called to check in and ensure I had the best experience by asking a few basic questions about what I wanted for a cut. I was really impressed by the thoroughness in follow-up. When I got to the salon, check in was quick, the front desk kindly asked to hang up my coat, and there was no wait time (despite arriving slightly early for my appointment). You could also request a refreshment, and they have one of the most extensive coffee menus I've ever seen! The wash, cut, and styling were all done seamlessly, with my stylist periodically asking clarifying questions along the way. I paid at the door, and inquired when I should be back. Another staff member knowledgeably mentions about 6-8 weeks to maintain the shape of the cut. Everyone was so warm and kind. Not to mention, there's great parking in the front and in the alley. Highly recommend if you're in the area!

I met Nancy shortly after I moved to Skokie back in 2006. I had been working in the area since…read more2004. I would run all the way out to Lake Forest to get my hair cut. Good hairdressers are not easy to find. Nancy understood that perfectly. I met her while I was working. As one of my customers, we got to talking and she mentioned to me that her salon was right across the way from where I worked. Being a hairdresser, Nancy could tell right away that I colored my hair and what kind of work went into it. She could also see exactly how my hair was cut. Hairdressers always know. The trick with hairdressers, is whether or not they can step in and do the same without doing too much to try to impress as a stylist. It's a given that you certainly do not want them to damage your hair either. I cannot say enough about how impressed I am with Nancy's years of talent as a hairdresser. I am not an easy client. There have been a couple days that I have gone in there and I don't know why I haven't been smacked upside the head with a curling iron! Very few hairdressers can cut your hair to your exact request. For me, Nancy does this every time. She really goes out of her way to get to know your preferences for cut and color. As a single woman, I swear that changes with me every day. I am the kind of woman who gets in moods where I think my hair is going to change everything about me and reinvent me. Nancy has done this with only my vague verbal expressions; which I swear are more of a psychological cry for, "I'm lonely and I need attention," than it is a desire for simple change. As a cliche, I just hate that too. The best part? I still come out looking fantastic!! I have never left that woman's chair unhappy. Nancy is wise and totally that kind of hairdresser you can talk to. I really think she should also be considered a legitimate therapist. She'll never claim she understands how the world works; but I swear she doesn't realize how much that kind of discretion is utilized in conjunction with her life experience. Nancy styles with all kinds of hair. Her clients go in and come out new, fabulous, and refreshed right down to their soul. I see this because I work right across from her salon. Everyone leaves with a genuine smile on their face. I think it's safe to say all of her clients, including myself, love her dearly for everything she does. A true miracle worker, I cannot appreciate Nancy enough. Now I commute from Chicago, just to have her do my hair. Hope to see you there soon!!
