There is a lot to see between the river, trees, birds, and other trail visitors. Super easy to park around the businesses near the Pumphouse and then set off. As we were coming back, there were people putting kayaks into the water, also some folks in the water doing some fishing. Overall a great option for getting out into nature. Everything is paved and there some some well maintained wooden bridges to cross. Wide enough for two way traffic and benches a lot the way for breaks.

Ms. Sandifer was born on the property and lived most of her life in nearby York, SC. She was a school teacher prior to her retirement and lived to be 96 years of age before her death in February 1994. In her will, Ms. Sandifer requested that this property be known as the James Ross Wildlife Reservation. A parking area is available and a sign dedicating the tract is present. The James Ross Wildlife Reservation consists of 305 acres and lies approximately 2 miles southwest of the town of York in York County, SC. It is located south of Ross Branch and is intersected by State Road 35 (Old Pinckney Road). Pine timber stands comprise about 150 acres and are primarily natural shortleaf, some Virginia pine and two small areas of loblolly pine. A significant number of desirable mast-producing hardwood species such as red oak, white oak, hickory, beech and dogwood occur on the tract and account for approximately 145 acres. Several small wildlife openings are present. This is about as wildlife as it gets. It's not only a nature preserve but it's also far from cities and development. There is a fire management road through it and I walked along it briefly to see what was what. There was no noise from cars planes or people. This kept the inside of my tent hot during the day. Thus, I couldn't sleep. Most sites at this campground from what I saw has the sun shining on your tent from about 7am to about 3pm. I will not be staying here anymore. Now, if you are in an RV, then I recommend staying here because the sun doesn't matter. But if you are working at night and trying to sleep during the day and you are staying in a tent, I do not recommend staying here.

With school starting soon I decided to take a small road trip to SC with my handsome now 8yr old son, I promised to take him to a botanical garden and decided on this place. When we arrived we immediately followed the path and got lost in the beauty and wonder of this garden. The ponds filled with life, the creeks, waterfalls, plants and trees, they had a memorial garden dedicated to those that serve/served, it was all so lovely. Gorgeous walking paths that make you feel like you are in an enchanted forest. Words and photos can not express the beauty this place holds. I can't wait to come here during the springtime. I think we'll add this to our list of places to go for walks and even picnics. It was really hot when we went, so I'd love to come during the fall or when it's cooler to just stay a while longer and really take in every inch of this place. I hope I did good at capturing at least a fraction of the beauty!

A stream ran through the center of the place, with a mix of manicured scenery and more natural water vegetation offering plenty of sights. An occasional animal dropped in as well. There was splendid seating to stop for a picnic, and a building contained restrooms and water fountains. It was a peaceful place with some beautiful sights. This was no great diversion from the highway, and far better than a rest stop.
