The therapist's use of body weight without a protective sheet can cause direct nerve compression, severe muscle trauma, and skin irritation Sometimes, therapists use specialized techniques like Ashiatsu (walking on the back). However, performing this without a sheet is unsanitary, and applying it improperly with excessive pressure can cause severe soft-tissue trauma. When muscles and nerves are intensely compressed, it triggers an inflammatory response, which can cause you to feel feverish or ill (flu-like symptoms) as your body reacts to the trauma.
