I didn't want to believe that short of going to the ER there were no viable options! After ranting my frustrations to a colleague of mine she suggested I call the practice her family has been going to for many, many years. That's how I stumbled into Midwest Family Physicians. I called on Friday and was able to get an appointment for Monday. Now that's what I'm talking about! When I walked in, I checked in with the nice receptionist, filled out my paperwork and sat down in the simple waiting room. There were a few plants and plenty of new magazines to read while I waited 5 minutes before being greeted by Pat the nurse. She was so nice! We made a little small talk as she checked my weight (gahhh!), blood pressure and heart rate, which instantly calmed my nerves (something about going to the doctor is always nerve wracking!). I only had a minute or two to wait before Dr. Harazin came in. He was AWESOME! He really was thorough in his consultation. He asked detailed questions and didn't rush me at all when I was describing what was wrong. He also took the time to show me a few quick exercises I could do on my own that would alleviate some of the pain I was experiencing. I appreciated feeling like I mattered and I wasn't just another person to be seen and then quickly pushed out of the door. I have found my new doctor and I couldn't be more excited!

I"ll preface this by saying that I don't get sick very often. Which is why I don't have a personal…read morephysician. Or sure- I go and do the obligatory physical every year with all the corresponding tests, but I've yet to find a doctor that I want to have a long term relationship with. Well- that all changed the other day when I visited Dr. Sachtleben. So what made me change my mind? First of all- his office squeezed me in even though I wasn't a regular patient. Much appreciated given I was sick and needed some help. Secondly- this guy listens. Took the time to hear why I was there all the while typing what I said into his computer so that he could refer back to it. We talked about a wide range of things and what I liked is that he did not offer up the standard doctor lines about things. There is always more than one way to solve an issue and Dr. Sachtleben subscribes to that theory. All in all- not only did he solve my health issue- but he built my trust which is what I ask for in someone who is going to partner with me on my health. He came recommended to me by another doctor that I know and trust and I feel good about recommending him here. Now if I could only learn to pronounce his name properly!!

On the day of the scheduled appointment we went fifteen minutes earlier to do the standard paper work. When we walked up to the receptionist and related her of our appointment, she came back answering perturbed "Not here, not today". We tried explaining that we made the appointment the week prior. She still did not want to hear our story and keep relating that the doctor has no time for us. While we're trying to give our last name, she turns around now to talk to a different patient. Finally she located our name and related that our appointment is for the following week. Not trying to be confrontational I tried to explain that when I made the appointment I had paper and pen to write down this appointment, then transferred it to my phone, iPad and calendar (which all three matched). Whoever's fault doesn't matter. She just ignored me and went on speaking to other patients again ignoring us. We just looked at each other and couldn't believe this. We then just walked out in amazement thinking (sign one). That's without seeing a doctor on a New Patient visit. We're still debating on going back, hoping the doctor is better than his front desk. As we all know, doctors are not cheap and patients new or old should be treated with respect!
