The aftermath of bashing my side off the rocks
    Amber G.

Read reviews before you go!! This place is dangerous to everyone! The people who own it don't tell you anything about the float trip. You walk up to a little shack and they say $10 for float $5 for a cooler float which is just a tube with some kind of netting tied with rope. You sign some kind of wavier. Not sure what it says bc the print is so small and looks like a sign in sheet. We were motioned to a pile of black tubes and were told to pick one out. This was our first time and we didn't know what size we were looking for. A guy who worked there was helpful after we asked what are we supposed to do. Once we got our tube we were loaded into a pick up truck bed and drove up a hill. There was cows and lots of smelly poo piles but whatever this is the woods. We were dropped off and told this is where you can enter. It's a steep hillside. We had 3 tubes and 2 coolers so it wasn't the easiest decent. We finally make it and get in. The water was cold and a greenish color. It took us a bit to figure out how to tie the tube cooler to one of the tubes but we figured it out. The water there was calm. Another set of people came down and you can tell they were regulars. They had a canvas raft and said they come every weekend. Since they weren't newbies I asked about the rapids/waterfall types things I read up on and she said just keep to the right of the first one. If we didn't ask her we probably wouldn't have known that. It took us about 10 mins to get to the first one. Along the way we saw many empty beer cans placed on trees. I mean I guess it's funny but still tacky at the same time. We approached the falls and no one told me to not hold on to my friends raft and I tipped over and bashed my shoulder and side all the way down the rapids. I struggled to stand and when I did I was in so much pain with my arm I couldn't move. Luckily we were near the 1st beach area and a volunteer firefighter happened to be there and came to rescue me. Apparently tons of people get hurt there per what the campers said who were set up on beach 1. They offered to take me back but I figured I would tough it out and get to the end. I give this two stars because I did enjoy tubing on the calm parts of the river. The views were nice (besides some trash on the shore line and pooped graveyard of tubes.) it was calming until other rapid areas came. There are 4 rapid parts and tons of rocks sticking out everywhere. Since I was nervous about what happened at the first falls/rapids I was scared to go down them but I walked/slide down them to not tip over again. It was cool to see the fish jump and there are a ton of turtles chilling on rocks and branches. I would have given more stars if I didn't end up hurting myself. I banged up my arm and side pretty good. I just got home from the doctors and luckily nothing is broken. I also feel that those people there should explain things better or even explain about how to approach the rapids/falls. If you do plan to go be sure to bring some type of water shoe that is closed in. Definitely not flip flops. Plastic blow up floats can pop due to the many rocks and sharp edges. The pros recommended a canvas type tube. On the first fall/rapid area stay to the right. If you are tied as a group untie yourself because it's not safe to go down with more then one person. Beach area 1 is the nicest the other one has piles of trash and broken tubes just laying around. Update 7/15/202 - found out my shoulder is actually fractured. I will not be going back and if you do beware this place is very dangerous!!!

First waterfall/rapid whatever you want to call it.

Limestone is the best place to spend lazy, hot summer days. You gotta be tough to make it down the river. It is not for the faint hearted. If you are a hypochondriac, prone to injury, or just plain ole clumsy, you gonna get scraped up a little. My family and I, 14, 7,6, and a 5 year old, go just about every weekend during the summer. The owners, and staff are country af. Don't expect a 5 star water park. Its like stepping back 40 years when you get there. No cell service. No creature comforts. There are no complaints. There are no refunds. It is a raw, untouched river that flows on private land. There are fish, frogs, bugs, turtles, and snakes. True outdoorsman, and semi pro drinkers only. If yall see me down there, come say hey.

its impossible to miss considering it is almost a 1way road and the only thing out there

Nice rustic place. Very much what I would expect when I drive down the backroads of Alabama for 30 minutes. Nice enough people to talk to for a tube and a ride in the back of a truck that surprisingly runs. Loads of fun. Slow moving river. Might not bring my kids here if I was trying to keep them in an uncultured sheltered bubble. You can see beer cans in the water rarely. Never stepped on any glass but did find a few places to jump in along the way. Bring some water shoes for walking.

Excellent trip on the scenic Cahaba River! Charles Williams has always done a great job in hosting people from all over.

Friends and I were looking for a super-simple, laid-back way to kayak/canoe down the Cahaba one…read moreSaturday afternoon (minimal fuss with coordinating boats/rides, etc but maximal river time) . Canoe the Cahaba was the closest option to downtown Birmingham and offered two routes- 5.0 and 9.9 miles. We elected to do the longer 9.9 mile trip and were not disappointed. Their business model is pretty simple: they offer parking and a shuttle -boats in tow- to the appropriate put-in for your trip. Life vests, paddles and boats are all included and are in good working order. The paddle is easy, rapid-free so even novice outdoors-people will feel comfortable. Our 9.9 mile trip took about 6.5 hours with copious down time picnicking, swimming and rock skipping. We had a really brilliant time and look forward to using this outfitter again. The only caveat keeping this place from 5-stars is the too-casual way in which appointments are made. The number provided is someone's cell phone number and the communication is super casual. We ended up waiting over an hour past our reservation time on the day-of because the guy (possibly the only employee) was held up with a larger group... it would have been nice to sleep in or snag some breakfast if we had known he was going to be behind but 15 minutes turned into 60 without any fanfare. Nonetheless, a great opportunity for canoeing/kayaking in relatively close proximity to downtown.

I could not imagine ever having the wedding anywhere else. I was so pleased with the service and it made life really easy to have everything in one place. He worked with the caterer, the cake delivery folks and the DJ to make sure everything was set up perfectly. All of my guests loved the venue! We had such a good time we didn't realize that we were already back to the dock at the end of the night. Highly recommend this location for a wedding and bonus you can keep your wedding small to medium size so you can invite the folks that mean the most to you. Thanks, Craig!! You are the best!

Checked into my hotel and crash. A couple days later saw the Belle lit up from my hotel room. Called up the captain and he said the boat isn't running but his bar was open until 9. We dashed through the pouring rain and down to the river from the Indigo and got on board. Captain Dobson was very welcoming. Made us a drink and talked to us for a long time about the Belle and the history of the town and the state of Alabama. He stayed an extra half hour chatting with us. Great guy. I'll be sure to make it for a cruise next time.
