I turned up unannounced and there was no problem getting a camping spot. £14 for a basic spot and £17 for one with an electricity point. It's fairly small and not a lot to on offer other than the pub and a small kids area (two swings and a tiny wooden house) just next to the campsite.
Facilities are clean and the place is managed very well. Management leave you to get on with things yourself but they keep a close eye on things. As a nervous camper, I felt very safe there. The only thing to do on the doorstep is walking/hiking, but if you have a car there are lots of nearby attractions.
The Limeburners pub does great, hearty food. Their salads are warm and filling and their roasts are good. Good, but not amazing. I was surprised to find salsa-covered courgettes in my roast dinner! Puddings are to die for. Try the gingersnap basket with strawberries and ginger ince-cream and the cherry-chocolate fondant. Good prices too. Average main is about £7. Reserve a table at peak times, though, as the locals swarm there. read more
