When you head out to the North Fork, make sure you leave yourself time and head out to the Sang Lee…read moreFarms. They have many different varieties of herbs, tomatoes, watermelons, non-GMO corn and squash among other items! We wanted some garlic and had to sort through the multiple varieties to find the best one for what we needed. That's where their amazing staff comes in. The team here is wonderful and incredibly knowledgeable. Besides all the wonderful certified organic fruits and veggies, lot of Asian vegetables (Chinese string beans, kohlrabi, young ginger, bok Choy), they have plenty of plants for your garden. This was a great spot to pick up some nive varieties of tomatoes, parsley, etc,, They also offer refrigerated items and baked goods. They have a great selection of pastas among other items. A must visit for all. KUDOs to the team at Sang Lee Farms.

This is year 2 of doing the CSA…read more I will start by saying I do not like receiving my organic regeneratively farmed produce in plastic . I've done partial both years and while I feel the produce last year was excellent, this year I found a lot of things going bad faster and a lot less variety and quantity in what they gave out this year. I was also very disappointed to not get some items they offered last year that were specialty and a part of why I liked them but bc I was 'just' partial share, so didn't receive those items this year and there where not nearly as many tomatoes this season. I'm not doing partial share to be cheap. I am one person, sometimes 2. A full would be just be too much. In other CSA programs they would just give the full shares more of the same things the partial got.... Which to me would make more sense bc a bigger family with more people would likely need more of the same thing...or perhaps our logic is simply different. I did stop by the farm to get what I was missing and purchased more tomatoes...guess I just feel that if you are selling it at your farmstand, I would think you had the items to put in ALL the shares... While I understand the cost of everything is going up for everyone, everywhere, the quality overall seems less than last year and it's one of the most expensive CSAs on the island. Just not as stoked on it and I don't feel this farms CSA has a bang worth my bucks for next season.

What a lovely place…read more You drive up, and feel the instant love and dedication that goes into the food being grown here. We stopped last weekend for tomatoes and potatos and greens, and everything was fresh and grown so solidly. It was a MUST stop!

On the way back from Orient State Park, we saw signs for a biodynamic farm and gourmet CSA -- we both thought, what is a gourmet CSA? We parked our bikes and sauntered off to the food barn to get some fresh food for our post-ride healthy meal. On our way we were welcomed by the owner (Ira) who guided us into the barn to check out the farm's wares. We picked out some beautiful looking kale, spring scallions, blackberry jam, and pickled peppers, and were happy with our healthy purchase...but there was so much more to this farm, and we could feel it. Ira offered to show us around the property, parts of which date back to 1680 or so. We saw barn swallows for the first time, and tasted arugula flowers, too. The plots of vegetables were beautifully laid out, the greenhouses full of lettuces, and Ira also mentioned there were bees. The farm was created by Ira and his late wife, KK, an architect and builder (team), respectively. The biodynamic philosophy was the inspiration of KK, who simply wanted to provide her family and friends with healthy, nutritious food. And the gourmet CSA was no real mystery. Customers get to choose what they want each week...pretty novel. If you are into real food, visit the farm; if you are into seeing people who are doing real work, visit the farm. You will be inspired by this labor of love, created by two people who shared a vision, and shared the beauty and fruits of their vision with all of us. Oh yeah, you will want to buy stuff, so make sure you have some cash on you as there are no easy access ATMs!
