I wish I could give this place 4.5 stars - because I love their coffee! I always get a soy latté…read more(or the iced version in the summer). It never fails to please. Latté's always hot enough, creamy, and tastes just the right amount of bitter... Sooo delicious. In my opinion, it's the absolute best in this part of the city. Also, staff is really friendly and it's a local (tiny) chain ; just a few more reasons to visit! I love going there for casual brunch on the weekends. I like their yogurt parfait with toast (or one of their homestyle muffins), a big bowl of café au lait and the papers. Ahhh. Good times! Also, their crumble is pretty darn good. And try the sugar pie, you won't be sorry! ;) Crowd is pretty diverse (a mix of students, families and retirees), there's free wifi and plenty of seating. The only drawbacks are the lack of natural light (few windows, since it's inside a mini food emporium/mall building called les Halles de Sainte-Foy) and the fact that they close pretty early. Oh well!

La Maison Smith at 23 Rue Notre-Dame in the heart of Old Quebec City is pure magic. I'm still…read morethinking about it weeks later. Picture this: soft snow falling on the cobblestone streets of Petit-Champlain, fairy lights glowing, and the warm light spilling out of this beautiful little café. I ducked in both mornings of my short trip and could have happily stayed all day. The interior is perfect Québécois charm: exposed stone walls, wooden beams, cozy lighting, and that unbeatable smell of fresh baking. First morning I ordered the pistachio latte and the quiche Florentine. I would legitimately sell my firstborn for that pistachio latte: silky, perfectly balanced, with a rich, natural pistachio flavor that no syrup could ever match. One sip and I was ruined for life. The quiche was flawless: buttery, flaky crust, creamy spinach-and-cheese filling, baked to golden perfection. Absolute breakfast heaven. I braved a full-on snowglobe blizzard the next morning just to come back. This time I paired the same life-changing pistachio latte with the almond croissant. I'd hand over my other kid for daily access to these croissants (kidding... mostly). Impossibly crisp and flaky outside, cloud-soft inside, generously stuffed with fragrant almond paste, topped with toasted almonds and powdered sugar. I ate it slowly by the window while the snow piled up on Rue Notre-Dame and honestly felt like the luckiest person alive. The baristas were friendly, the vibe warm and unhurried, and everything was flawless. If you're in Quebec City, make La Maison Smith non-negotiable (and budget time to visit at least twice). Five stars isn't enough. This place is winter-morning perfection.

We both ordered lattes and almond pastries--hands down the best coffee and pastry of the trip! The atmosphere was lovely, too. From our little stools at the bar, we could sip our lattes while people-watching in the square outside. See you tomorrow and the next day too, Café La Maison Smith!

Best ice-cream concept ever!! They have 20 flavors of chocolate to serve as dip for your ice cream…read morecone. Where I come from, you are lucky to find chocolate dip and maybe butterscotch or strawberry. 20 flavors is an insane amount!! In the course of my visit to Quebec, we collectively tried: salted caramel, peanut butter, coffee, sugar cream/fudge, hazelnut and dolce de leche. My favs were the coffee and salted caramel. In addition to the dipped cones, they offer hot chocolate, dipped ice cream sandwiches, gelato, etc. I would be happy coming in for an epic euro-style hot chocolate in the winter months too. The service is great. Prices are expected for the area, close to $4 CAD for a small dipped cone. I think the prices are quite reasonable for how good it is. If you haven't been here yet, go now!! They are open till 11 most nights!

They also win on dessert choices - they do cakes, ice creams, truffles, waffles, all kinds of stuff your sugar-loving heart can desire. I was also super grateful at their long hours because they accompanied me on a lonely work trip evening. Their chocolates aren't quite as good in quality or taste as Chocolats Favoris but I will most definitely will continue coming for the ice cream. They are also quite generous with their portions!
