What a great hike for a busy body! Absolutely love Likeke Falls. It's a relatively short hike (15 to 25 minutes each way, depending on your pace) with a great refreshing waterfall at the end. We went at 2p, and aside from the few people on the trail, we were ALONE at the falls for the hour we spent there. We started at Koolau golf course. If your planning on starting here, park in the back (furthest from the church). There is a small paved path that goes uphill. Go this way. If your standing at the church, looking at the lot, it's the far back, right corner. Take this path for a very short time...and you'll come to a giant water tank. Right before the tank, there is a path on the left, go this way and keep going over the cobblestone path, until you get to a giant white tree. Someone etched an arrow into it. At this tree, go right and there you have it! Be sure to bring water shoes or slippers because your shoes will be muddy (unless of course you don't mind mud all over your car). There is no hose to rinse off, so keep that in mind. At times, there may be mosquitoes. Luckily we didn't get bitten today, but one hiker was eaten alive, so beware. When I invite you hiking and say "it'll be a little muddy, bring your slippahs to change into," you better be ready to get dirty! Likeke Falls is a short hike that the whole family can easily do and a whole lot more fun in the rain and mud! We stepped over a few branches and ducked under some, gingerly stepped on green rocks, zigzagged around orange mud puddles for about 20 minutes and then splashed around the stream. After a few group selfies at the bottom of the waterfall we took turns and climbed up into it!! Ready to chase waterfalls and get dirty? Here's what you need: - shoes with good traction. Some of those rocks are slippery! - slippahs to change into. You DON'T want that mud in your car - jug of water or wipes to wash the mud off your legs - mosquito spray - waterproof camera, especially if it's raining. Our phones were to wet to slide on! - towel to dry off or sit on How to get there: Likeke Falls used to be accessible from Pali Look but there's now a gate blocking access. Some people go around it, but I'm a chicken. Thankfully Ko'olau Golf Course welcomes hikers except on Sunday's before 1pm due to chapel services. Drive to the back of the parking lot and park as close to be yellow rope as you can. Walk up the paved path and turn left before the water tank. I've been seriously slacking on hikes and to think I could reach my goal of 50 by the end of the year....Anyway, my friends Kirk T and Kristin H and I wanted to do an easy hike so we set out to the Pali Lookout to try the hike to Likeke Falls via the Old Pali. Take the paved road to the right of the Pali lookout. It'll lead you to a Road Closed sign. (Don't worry you don't have to jump any fences) Keep walking down until you get to a little dirt path which has pink markers veering off to the left. If you keep walking straight you'll see a sign for the Maunawili falls (This is the WRONG way) The pink markers will lead you to wooden broken stairs and a ladder with a rope under the New Pali Highway. My advice is to not use either and just climb down the rocks on the far right. You may need to use the bottom of the ladder for support to jump down. Crouch under the highway and keep walking straight till you see a Y shape in the road. Great short hike for little ones and dogs! The golf course is closed to parking. Park outside the fence to the side of the road but park within the white lines and the direction of traffic. Otherwise, you'll get ticketed a $35 fine. Once you go through the government path, there's a trail that leads up to the private trail of the golf course. Be sure to take the trail to the left right before the water tower. Muddy enough for the little ones to have lots of fun while wearing slippahs! read more

Really enjoyed this short waterfall hike! We went on a Sunday and were greeted with several "no parking for hikers" signs. I assume they keep the spots reserved for the churchgoers. We just parked on the road and walked up - not a big deal since the trial is so short. I think you can access two trails from here - so be sure to enter at the very back of the parking lot with a chain across the entryway. Once you walk up a short distance, you'll see a big graffiti covered water tank. Turn left right before the tank. The other big sign to watch for is the big tree telling you to turn right. I had to pull up one of the yelp pictures for reference :D Unlike that reviewer, I was a lot less thoughtful and did not take any useful pictures to share (sorry). But hopefully if you're yelp obsessed like i am, you've already read that other, more useful, review. The trail is extremely muddy but it's fine if you have appropriate shoes ... though my dog seemed to struggle a bit. She kept sinking into the mud (it was so cute). As for supplies, definitely bring bug spray, trash bags for your muddy shoes and towels to dry off after playing in the waterfall. read more

You can take this 1 of 3 ways--via a trail near Ho'omaluhi'a, via the Pali lookout or the easiest way, via the Ko'olau golf course. I recommend taking the Ko'olau golf course if you have young children (like toddler aged). Each trail has its own beauty----the nice thing about the Ko'olau golf course route is that you can reach it in less than 20 minutes. Bring some water depending on which route you take. I recommend taking about 1.5-2L for the Pali and Ho'omaluhi'a trails; a 16 ounce bottle for the shortest route. Bug spray for sure! Camera (!), towel and maybe extra clothes if you get wet. Great location and great hike for newbs and keikies! The short side is located on the back parking lot of the famous Ko Olau golf course. You work you way up a small and sometimes muddy path overlooking beautiful forest growth and a few peeks into Kaneohe Bay. You'll notice your at the end and close to the falls as you come across a stream of water. Be respectful of the area as we saws bunch of tourist walk up the stream breaking through the natural rock formations as well as climbing up to the top of the falls while ripping through plants for balance. Also through away your own garbages! Sad to see plastics, dog poop bags and clothing/mask left on the trail. read more

There are two ways to get to Likeke Falls: 1) Start at the top of the Pali Lookout ($3 for parking) and then make your way downhill through the overpass. 2) Start from the nearby Koolau golf course and work your way up. It's pretty easy to get lost regardless of which way you come from, which happened a lot to me despite doing lots of research online to better prepare myself for what turned out to be a challenging hike. Parts of the trail can and will be muddy, as this is on the Windward Side. Despite wearing plenty of mosquito spray and pants, still managed to get bitten on my arms a few times. There are painted signs/lettering at one intersection of the old Pali Highway (coming from either the Pali Lookout or the Koolau Golf Course) directing you in the right way of the falls, but even after that point, it was confusing which way I was supposed to go. Trails were super narrow and sometimes hard to see. Anyway, when I finally got to the waterfall, it was such a beautiful sight, despite getting wet! Loved how much it was flowing. I love short hikes like these. My friend and I made it there and back in half an hour and we took pictures at the falls too. Make sure you take the right path. It's marked with pink ribbons. If you are next to the water tank with graffiti, you gone too far. We accidentally went to the wrong path and it was a dangerous, slippery, and steep climb. No one should take that path. The right path is super easy but can be muddy and slippery if it just rained. Also my shoes were wet and muddy afterwards and I threw them out cuz they smelled really bad too. Good little trail to walk up. We were unsure of where to even find the trail, so we spent a few minutes looking it up while on the road. It's a very wooden trail, but it wasn't that long, so it was perfect for us. I can only imagine there being a lot of mosquitoes on this trail, but luck was on our side and we didn't get bit at all. The waterfall itself was good. it wasn't the biggest, but it was still satisfying to see the waterfall. Bring some water shoes so you can actually step into the water, that definitely is refreshing once you get to the waterfall. The Likeke Falls hike has a few different paths to take, so my advice to you would be to research this hike first and decide which one. I first tried the hike from the Pali lookout, but after walking down the road for about 10 minutes and no sign of the entry my friend and I gave up and drove to the Koolau golf club nearby to try that trail to the falls instead. Don't worry about parking here, the club welcomes hikers but apparently just asks not to park there during their Sunday service. Park towards the back of the lot closest to the dirt to be the closest to the trail. Go past the yellow rope and up the small hill, following the path until you reach the graffitied water tower. We first walked around it and saw a trail behind it, walked through horrible mud following pink ribbons we saw on trees until the trail ended and there was no falls. Do not go this way! It is the wrong path and you get gross and muddy in the process. Instead, follow the path just before you touch the water tower on the left. This is the correct trail. You will quickly come up to w large white tree and you know you're going the right way. Soon the path turns into old cobblestones. When you see a right turn off the cobblestones go this way. It may be a little muddy, but it is nowhere near as bad as that horrible first trail we accidentally took! Just a little bit further and you've reached the falls! The falls are beautiful, streaming down the rock face. Up by the falls themselves you can climb the rocks and there's a little pool that's not real deep. Down the embankment you first walk up to as well has a little pool you can cool off in. I would definitely recommend this short route from the golf club. It's maybe 20 minutes and easy for the whole family to enjoy. read more

My first waterfall that I actually hiked to and experienced...the waterfall was beautiful and nice and cold...the hike itself was very beautiful, we walked through the old Pali road...I would recommend going early, we were lucky and we had a nice breeze. There will be parts of the hike that will get muddy so take your time and go at your own pace. We started the hike from koolau, I would recommend starting that way instead of coming down from the Pali Lookout. Beautiful falls, short, easy hike*. * Hike is easy if you start from the golf course/church parking lot, and if you know the right trail to take.* Here are some things I'll remember for next time we want to see Likeke Falls without the extra exercise we got today: 1) Don't go on a Sunday morning. The Golf Course and Presbyterian Church share the parking lot, and they are very clear in communicating that they'll tow hikers' cars. Plan B was to park at Pali lookout and take the long trail down the old Pali road, under Pali highway, then you finally get to the parking lot (where you could have parked if you hadn't gone on Sunday morning). While this is a much longer route, still very beautiful scenery. 2) After you get to the water tank with graffiti (and go left), Look for the big tree with graffiti--now go right. The tree has a carved arrow amidst all the other fun artwork which points to the right. Believe it. If you aren't looking for the tree it is easy to miss the turn. 3) Bring some old towels to dry off with after playing in the falls. Plastic bags for muddy shoes/ gear are highly recommended. read more

Location is a lil tricky. Gps to the golf course and park back of lady side. Entrance is between two yellow chains. The falls were beautiful and had plenty of water. It rained the day before. Very nice simple and short hike. Too short for my personal taste so when we got to the falls we kept hiking with no specific destination in mind. We followed some pink ribbons that marked the trail without knowing where they lead. I wish there was some information on where the trail to the left of the tree goes. If it was just a longer route to the same fall I would have preferred that route. Over all I would recommend. As far as difficulty I saw 6 kids under the age of 5 skipping and having fun on my way in so if you have kids or a dog this is probably a good option. A website I saw labels this as moderate but I would say this is on the easier side. read more

Likeke falls! Yay! It only took 2 attempts to get here (on the same day mind you), because we flew past the marker in our excitement to get there. This turned what should have been ~30-40 minute hike one way into a 3 hour round trip. We weren't too salty since it was a nice day and the exercise was good. Directions: start at the Pali lookout and go down the trail off to the right (the one with the giant "ROAD CLOSED" sign). Walk along the old Pali until you see pink markers off to your left. If you pass the Maunawili Falls sign on your right, you've gone just about 10 seconds too far. Follow the pink markers until you come up to the new Pali. Follow the wooden ladder and go under the new Pali. Now follow the old Pali again and go down until you hit a very large fork in the road (looks like a giant "y" bend. Take the left fork and find the small bridge off to the left, with a trail immediately after the small bridge. Follow this trail until you hit the top of the hill and hit a split in the trail that goes 3 ways. Follow the blue markers, or you'll go to other random places, until you hit a cobblestone road (which my mom told me was there before the old Pali, how cool!). The cobblestone pathway will taper down to a point and you'll need to go left off the path just prior to that to hit the final dirt path ((can be seen well from the pathway) to hit the falls! Why 5 stars? It's a relatively hidden hike, with few people going on it - mostly I assume because they don't know where to go. We wouldn't have gotten there if not for the kindness of a stranger on the path as we were wandering around. So we helped out other fellow hikers on the trail who were also wandering around on their way in while we were on the way out. I loved walking on the old Pali and the cobblestone pathway! Usually I give stars for hikes being challenging or beautiful, but this one was just fun! The waterfall at the end isn't the most spectacular, but it was in a nice area and we didn't regret the effort getting there. Please enjoy this hike responsibly, especially since it's off the beaten path - it is also very clean. It would be a shame if they closed this off because people were littering. read more

After spending a few hours at the Makapuu Tidepools, a friend and I decided that we were going to follow through on adventure number two of the day, which brought us to Likeke Falls. My friend said that their former roommate recommended it, and it was a nice, short hike, with a picturesque waterfall at the end. In researching how to get here, we noticed that there were two ways to get here. There is a longer trail that starts up at the Pali Lookout or you can take a much shorter hike from the Koolau Golf Club. We opted to go for the short route. We mapped our way to the Koolau Golf Club. They allow hikers to park in their lot in a designated area. You'll keep going straight up to the top two lot areas that are closest to the trail. If they're roped off, I would suggest parking closest to those lots. From the lot, you should be able to see the trail entrance and if you can't just look for people. When you first start, you'll reach a water tank with a bunch of grafitti on it; continue left. Shortly after, you'll come to a clearing where you can spot Pali Lookout and the Pali Puka! You'll hike on the trail for about 10 minutes before you reach a point where the dirt will turn into a cobblestone road. At this point keep your eye out for a large tree covered with markings / carvings; take a right down a trail here. You'll have to crouch / hunch-hike for a bit, but yes, you are going in the right direction! From this point, things should be wetter and muddier so be careful where you step! Within another 15-20 minutes of hiking you should hear a gushing stream and then come across the waterfall! Luckily, since it's been raining here, the waterfull had a nice steady stream of water coming down. My friend and I decided to go for it and climb up a bit further to get closer to the waterfall and stand in it. There's a small "pond" but it's really only big enough for a child to sit down in or a few adults to stand in. We were also lucky to get there and be able to take pictures uninterrupted for quite a while. After drying off, the hike back was much quicker. Overall, a great, short hike that's great for anyone of all ages, with a beautiful destination. Definitely an unlikely gem of a hike amongst the usual hikes you always hear about. Suggestions for what to bring: -Small backpack -Towel -Insect repellent (I got bitten quite a bit; my friend surprisingly had none!) -Camera (waterproof is better so you can capture those waterfall shots!) -Plastic bags (for shoes after -- mud alert!) -Water/snacks (although it's short, better to be hydrated & not hangry) read more

I did the short version of the hike starting at the Koolau golf course. Nice easy trail for my four year old son and I and a group of friends and their kids. There's a sign on Sundays, hikers can park only after 1130am. The hike is about 20 minutes going up. Turn right after 10 to get to the 65ft waterfall. Don't forget mosquito repellent! You will see a walkway that has it chained off. Walk down there. Just before the water tank is a path to your left. Walk a bit until you find a tree that has carvings in it. I would give the falls itself 3 stars. Great one for kids or the whole family. Very easy and leisurely. The only hazard might be a twisted ankle. There are no crazy heights or climbing involved. However, there are two main ways to get to the falls. From the Pali lookout, or the much faster golf course route. I recommend starting from the Pali Lookout. You will actually get a little bit of a workout, and walking the old Pali road is half the fun! Being so overgrown, some parts are just awesome to see. The falls might be tall, but you can really only see a limited ways up because of the forest. No swimming, just falls, and streams, and muddy trails. The other part I really enjoy about the trail is going through the forest. Some parts are just so vast and peaceful. I've found myself getting caught up looking around while walking the trail, bad idea. It does get slippery and a little narrow at a few spots. Nothing dangerous unless you're not paying attention. Since there's numerous ways to get to this waterfall, I took the path that starts at Koolau Golf course. The hike trail is short and you can make it to the waterfall under 30 minutes. I will say a 40-50 minutes round trip hike trail. Please note that there's a pink ribbon that indicates the waterfall so be a lookout for that. I went there on Friday and passed the pink ribbons and definitely took the wrong path and have to waste 10 minutes. The waterfall at the end was worth it for a short hike and it's refreshing. Waterfall had a little pool for limited people, but the best part is climbing up on the right side of the waterfall (A path) to catch the waterfall flowing on the rock wall and you can even lie on the rock while water flows all over you. The hike is great for anyone at any age. I would say bring bug spray and sunscreen for protection. Bring extra slippers because the trail is muddy and extra clothes for the waterfall. Overall I like this hike and the waterfall. Can't wait to go again read more

My friends and I started and Koolau Golf Course (it was later in the day and we wanted an easy hike). We parked in the back right corner of the parking lot, which is where the entrance is. We used other reviews as a map to actually get to the falls which worked perfectly. It took us about 20 minutes to get to the falls...but beware...it was MUDDY!!! This side of the island rains frequently, so slippers would not be recommended. We also brought extra clothes, towels, and plastic bags for after. The falls were not super huge, and there isn't a large pool at the bottom to swim in, but it was still very pretty! We hung out for about 30 minutes taking pics and walking around, then headed back. The hike was easy enough for kids and not so long where they would get bored. read more

I loved this hike! My hubby to be found it online and with careful instructions (thank you phone reception) were able to find it on our first try. Listening to the birds constantly was so cute because if you whistle they whistle back. It was very tricky, worth it because even with every wrong turn-entirely beautiful! It was a pretty quick hike for us. When we got to Likeke Falls it was nice and relaxing. We parked on a rock and had a few snacks and saw a few people pass through, but not really stop in. I know it's not much help because my other half found this hike for us, but if you feel like exploring some more beauty go ahead and try it: We parked at the Pali lookout and headed down the closed road. (yes, even though it says closed-you are allowed to go down there and are entering at your own risk) When we got to the sign for Maunawili Trail we made an immediate left and proceeded under the bridge. The rest is history as you follow the dirt path down. read more

But this is a nice and easy hike that takes you to a pretty waterfall that doesn't have a pool for swimming but you can stand under it and get nice and refreshed! Fun hike! About 19 of us got together and did this hike today. We actually started from Ko'olau Country Club side, not from the Pali lookout. I think it's shorter this way. It was raining, which made the hike all that much more fun, although slippery. A lot of us used hiking sticks, which were SUPER helpful. I honestly didn't pay attention to the length of time it took us. We kept stopping along the way to take photos. Once we got to the falls and did our thing there, we continued on where there were tons of guava and mountain apples. So we picked a bunch! Coming back down we took a slightly different way, going out to the Old Pali Road. Going down this way is pretty steep and it was slippery. We spent about 2.5 hours here total, but again, we were taking pictures, playing around, having fun, not just in and out. Can't wait to do it again with a couple of my other friends! Maybe next time I'll climb up to the falls. ;) Update: June 9, 2013 I did this hike again with a friend visiting from out of town.
