The proprietor, Stephanie, is an absolute gem of a human being. Good humored, charming, enthusiastic, stylish. I was lucky enough to get on the mailing list for this amazing creative project near downtown Asheville. Being on the mailing list meant I got to go to the grand opening, which was a vibrant affair with Hi Wire pale ale by the keg and Vortex donuts and a really interesting mix of local artisans. But the real star of the show was the carefully curated stuff that Stephanie is selling. Her store is GORGEOUS. She hosted a pop-up shop for a small brand called Noodle, that sells exquisite hand-crafted art silk scarves and cushions. The quality was really something you'd need to see to believe. Aside from Noodle's fantastic printed wares, you can find artisanal embroidery supplies, cute geometric prints and calicos, hand-crafted local buttons made of porcelain and bisque, twee dress patterns suitable for any Asheville hipster, and so many more little treasures. There's a nice comfy seating area with some really interesting books to spark the creative spirit, and a professional-looking sewing studio that Stephanie hopes will serve as a space for classes. Prices are a little high, but commensurate with the quality they're selling. This ain't bargain basement stuff here. This is a destination store for sewers and crafters. I was able to cut out the patterns much more quickly than at home where I'm battling an evil kitty and a low table too small to fit a dress pattern. I'm going to do most of my cutting at Blackberg from now on, much to the cat's disappointment. The hardest part: holding myself back from purchasing every shred of the pretty fabric.

Sometimes they are very busy so going at the right hour is great (although that time can shift). There is a room upstairs in the back with some pre-made "accidents" that can be acquired for a discount. They provide UltraVue® UV70 AR Glass which is my favorite. I acquire supplies and frame myself so this all works pretty well for me too. They also give artists a discount. Parking out front is convenient going in, but getting back out is a bit tricky .. I suggest parking in the lot behind the building.

The second time I took some paintings in, they were more expensive and not so good on any price reductions. The 3rd time, I had 4 more framed, and it had gotten very expensive. Each time, I used their "discount" Artist's Corner, so expected better prices. They do a beautiful job, but as an artist, I need to find another framer. Between commission to galleries and expensive framing costs, I am making less on my own paintings than they are. If you are willing to pay the price and can afford it, they do a beautiful and professional job.
