Went to Earth Guild with the purpose of buying a spinning wheel and accessories. Walked in and an older gentleman was sitting in front, eating I believe, and never acknowledged me. I did say hi. Didn't even look my way, no hello, no welcome, nothing but silence. I tried to make eye contact numerous times to no avail. When he was done he sat there just looking straight ahead. I headed for the door and I said to him "to bad I was going to buy an Ashford today." To which he replied "goodbye." I'm glad they do enough business to lose a sale worth over $900.00, even though you couldn't tell by the measly stock of yarn and basketry items. read more

My sister and I were looking for knitting supplies while on vacation. We were SO happy to find this store, which not only was easy to find (thank you Google maps) but close to the parking garage as street parking is nonexistent in most of Asheville. I not only found knitting supplies, but also found some wool felt, and some leather scraps for bookbinding. The customer service was great, they walked me right to what I was looking for. The only negative I would give is that the store is somewhat expensive. We would go back and look for more treasures though!! read more

Not much of a yarn selection. Masks still required. Not an inviting atmosphere. If you weave, it looks like the selection is good.

Very disappointed. Went to enjoy the store and people who love my crafts: spinning and knitting and collecting yarn. Instead of being a fun immersive experience, it was no fun. The two staff members remained behind their plastic covid screens and acted like I was dirty. I looked at the spinning wheels and yarn, and no one asked where I was from (all the way from Alaska), what my craft was...what I was looking for: nothing. The man never looked at me once. The woman treated me like she hoped I'd get out as soon as possible and she could hardly wait till she was done ringing up my one skein of yarn. Do not recommend and I won't go back. read more

While they do have a great selection of craft supplies they are seriously SERIOUSLY lacking in customer service skills. Not friendly in the least if you bring your children with you. Even if they are perfectly well behaved they seem to have a problem with kids. For example, I was told by an associate that I shouldn't be taking my son to shop with me, she went on to tell me that when she had kids she never took them shopping, they stayed at the commune.... jaw dropping I was shocked by several unfriendly comments. Amazing customer service, they go above and beyond to get me the supplies I need to continue to run my small business during a pandemic. Forget the bad reviews and listen to me. I just came from Earth Guild and I'm elated with my experience. Blair was amazing, the real deal and helped me so much. Not only did she donate yarn for my animal welfare project, knitting warm blankets for animals in need but also spent an hour helping me with a sweater I had started over 20 years ago and stopped due to one reason or another. It was an amazing experience and they are down to earth. If you want sugar coating then go to babysitter. If you want real and sound advice and help better come here. I had finished a drop spindle class, before visiting my sister in Asheville, my teacher raved about how Earth Guild was one of the best places in North Carolina for supplies for spinning and fiber arts! I thought "Wow, awesome, I'm going to Asheville, I'll have to stop by!", I now regret deciding to go. While yes, they do have an extremely vast selection of supplies, anything you could possibly think of and more, at great prices, the woman there was one of the rudest, most crotchety women I've had the displeasure of dealing with in a long time. She greeted every person that walked in the door with the most deadpan mumbling of "Welcome to Earth Guild" she could muster, while staring at the same point on the back wall with her arms crossed. I didn't particularly want to deal with her after that, but I had forgotten to bring my class notes, and wanted to make sure what I was getting was good for beginners at spinning. Also, I dared to ask if there were any fiber suggestions for beginners aside from the starter set I was getting, and she looked at me like I asked her to recite the entirety of Mein Kampf in fluent German. I literally would have spent triple of what I did, if they were even marginally more helpful, she could have just pointed me to something and grunted in affirmation. I'm not even 100% sure if what I did end up getting is what I need. Maybe it's an ageist thing, I'm not in the crotchety, old betty club yet, so I'm obviously not serious about spinning, or maybe they aren't into growing their customer base by trying to help beginners out. I'm not sure, but I do know I'm not even consider buying goods online from them until I'm much more knowledgeable on what I need. read more

I will order my supplies online I the future. I was treated very disrespectfully by the woman in this shop. She actually made me feel like a thief when I tried to exchange an item even with a receipt. I did not want to return it, just exchange it. At first, when I asked to exchange it, she actually said "No". She did it anyway, and when I owed a little bit more, she did not want to take my "plastic" (her word), because of the fees involved. Owners are incredibly engaging and homely. Care about their product and willing to show you what's possible with different kinds of yard. Prices are competitive when you understand what it is you're getting. Normally picking up yarn in Charlotte at city prices; this place a gem of a find. Touch everything. I was visiting Asheville NC, found my way into Eathguild. What a fun place. As a novice weaver and experienced knitter, I thoroughly enjoyed all the goodies stocked on the shelves. I found the staff to be very helpful, not only answering my newbie questions, but providing suggestions that didn't include purchases. The weaving and spinning supplies in stock was wonderful. They are really filling a niche that other fiber/yarn shops aren't. Looking forward to my next visit already. read more

Excellent selection of craft supplies... horrible customer service! The sales clerk/owner is probably the rudest person I've ever run into...anywhere! I felt like my money was too dirty or too new to spend in that store. Ive been in there twice. the first time, I chalked her bad attitude to the fact that anyone can have an "off day" so I gave it another chance... bad idea...all that I accomplished is practicing the art of lady-like restraint. not for me.. LOVE this store. I only wish I lived closer, I'd be in there all the time. The folks are friendly and helpful. They have all the felting supplies that I've been looking for and could only find on-line. It's great to be able to see and touch before buying. read more
