I tried their Maker's Place "free" web site and was required to enter my email; since then I've unsubscribed from their promotional emails 4 time, every 3 months they send me another "promo". I love Michael's. This store sparks creativity the instant you walk through the doors. The space is filled with craft supplies, fine art supplies, baking goodies, and seasonal decor. They always have great sales (even better if you have the app and use their coupons). They carry everything from artificial flowers, wedding decorations, scrapbooking supplies, canvases, paints, gold leaf, baking molds and frames. This is always my first stop when I'm hunting for art supplies. They always seem to be a little understaffed, but when assistance is needed, they are always very friendly and helpful. read more

With so many different craft stores in our area, you would think Michaels would be more customer service oriented. I have been into the store a handful of times, usually looking for something pretty basic, crafting-wise, and it is always a challenge to find associates that are helpful. Most recently, I went in, looking for two very specific items; online checks told me the items were in stock, and the online search even indicated which aisle, in the store, I could find both items on. Despite checking before-hand, and my very specific item location map, neither products were where I was directed. So I looked for a store associate. Three, actually. First I went to the front check-out area to speak with a cashier. I had already circled the store, attempted to locate the items on the aisles indicated by my online app, and seen no one. I stood in line, and asked the cashier if she had seen the items (showed them to her, on my phone, and described them), she had not. There were customers waiting to check out, so I went searching for someone on the floor. The first person I found went to the aisles indicated, looked where I had looked and pronounced the items unavailable (despite the online and app search indicating the items in stock, she believed they had either sold out, or were never available at that store since she had not seen them, personally). I went to leave, and passed another associate. She too led me to the aisles indicated by my online search, and was just as stymied as I was, by the fact that her equipment (hand-held scanner) told her the items were in stock, and should have been shelved where indicated. The only explanation she could offer was that the products had been delivered, and not yet unpacked and shelved from the back... And no, she was not able to look in the back to find them. Although the associates are polite, the ad circulars, and online information does not match what is in-store. There needs to be some sort of overhaul to the computer and online system so that the retail stores and associates can better accommodate customers. Although the prices are reasonable for a big box store, there never seem to be enough employees to help customers. And the fact that the employees seem just as confused by what is advertised, what is in the stores, and what is online, I'm led to believe that Michaels, as a corporation, is a bit unorganized and disheveled. read more

I'm an artist....I mean I shot fine art photography, but that is about.....but when I come here (usually for a picture frame or a journal)....I usually lament about not having other artistic skills....there is SO much here to do SO many projects to create....I get a little overwhelmed...... But...it is a great place both in selection and price. Staff are helpful, but the store is packed so finding someone to assist you may require you walk about a bit. For this particular visist it was picture frame which they were out of some sizes, but quickly let me know the specific day next week to come back as inventory would be restocked for that items....Awesome!!! I went to the Michaels Craft Store in Asheville this week on Monday December 16, 2019. There bathrooms are disgusting. In the ladies room there's only 2 stalls. One doesn't have a door and no toilet paper. Why haven't they put a door on the stall its not a urinal. The other one is the wheel chair stall and it had poop smeared all over the seat, like someone was painting it with poop. It was disgusting. I told one of the clerks about it and she said we are under staffed and we will get to it when we can. That is irresponsible to not clean that up right away. I will never shop in that store again. read more

They are technically competent - helping me to design a beautifully framed project with great mat selections AND were personable and had great customer service skills. This is a very sad Michaels. It is not well kept and most especially if you do any type of embroidery or cross stitch. They do not restock their DMC threads, this section happens to be relegated to the clearance corner of the store. There are so many dead carts back there I had to rearrange just to access the threads they did have. I mentioned the state of things to the check out clerk and she was unphased by my comments, so I assumed this was all business as usual. read more

It was horrible! My daughter and her friend were using the spray paint test wall while I was continuing to look throughout the store. They ran back to me crying saying that a lady had come up to them and screamed at them about how they wouldn't do that to " their mothers wall" and how she just made them feel horrible when clearly other people had done it ALOT. They didn't see the lady's name but that person alone made their experience horrible. From now on using another store. Overall review, service sucks. read more

The first time I walked into Michaels was to get some popsicle sticks for my kids' after-school group. I expected to spen, tops, 10 min there, but walked out 2 hours story. If this store doesn't have what you need, I suspect they could order it for you, or send you to a place. They have a large array of art eqipment--prestretched canvas, canvas board, acrylic and oil paints, brushes, watercolors, drawing chalk, pencils and so on. And that's just art! Practically every other craft's or art endeavor's supplies are present--but sometimes the variety might be limited. For instance, I didn't see glass blowing equipment. Check it out, but plan on allowing yourself an hour or so for an introductory tour. I also have had at least 5 paintings or posters framed here. Their prices are competitive, and they can offer some ideas about what color frame and matting would look best. They do a good job. read more

Larry in the floral department is not only creatively talented but an overall customer oriented employee that bends over backwards to help. I always look for him when I am trying to update the flowers and bows at my daughter's gravesite and he always remembers me. What a delight when shopping for something so undelightful. He recently went above and beyond the call of duty when assisting with my sister's bows for her wedding. His talent was appreciated and his advice was priceless. I will forever be grateful. I wish all employees were as nice. I went into Michael's today and the cashier that caught my eye as I walked in never smiled or spoke a word. Not a hello. Not a welcome to Michael's. I missed Larry. I searched for him but I assume he had the day off. :( Then I checked out and there was Gina with a smile and she too was very patient and went out of her way to assist. I recommend this store because Michael's is awesome (though I wish they would make their coupons electronic so we can just swipe our Michael's card). And more likely than not you will run into employees like Larry and Gina and the 2 other helpful ladies who will make your shopping trip pleasant even if they are sold out of the item you wanted to buy. read more

My husband brought in art to be framed. The framer neglected to tell him that the store employees are not allowed to cut the art. The pieces he brought in were from a calendar and were not cut down to highlight the art work and therefore the framing was not what he wanted. The manager, Erica, got involved and said that they could not cut the frame down to fit the new size of the art because if the wood frame was cut it would weaken. My husband is a professional woodworker and told her that was incorrect and that if the wood frame is cut correctly it would be fine. She persisted in saying the frame would weaken. She then told him to pick a new frame. He didn't want any of the other frames available and they told him they would not be able to get any more of that particular wood frame. He stated he would get the wood frame cut and the art cut and would like to bring it back so they could frame it. She told him to not come back to the store because he was verbally abusive and to take his business elsewhere! read more
