I'm a newish knitter so I'm a little quiet when I go into yarn stores. My husband and I were visiting Black Mountain and I made it a point to visit Black Mountain yarn. It's a beautiful shop- they carry a nice range of yarns, Knitting for Olive and La Bien Aimee were the two I knew the most but there were so many choices. I asked for some help and was immediately assisted by the two working there. The owner and I chatted for a bit while the other assistant wound my yarn. I'll be making some day trips to Black Mountain yarn. I highly recommend this shop! read more

New owners and staff are rude and arrogant. So different from previous owner who was wonderful. My first experience here was not good and a year later nothing has changed. I have never been treated this bad at any yarn shop. I will never return. read more

I had previously been here when owned by Donna, and stopped in as part of the yarn tour. First, very low quantities and the selection is obviously dwindled. No more Magpie, Lola's Yarn or Malabrigo. Doubtful they even have sweater quantity on what else they have. Second, their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Any other LYS I have been to I am always welcomed, asked if I needed help, etc. Not here--I got a "hello, how ya doing" and that was it. I won't be stopping here again. Very disappointing how much BMYS has gone downhill. read more

Love this store! Lots of space to come knit. Love that they stock Magpie and Spincycle. I will definitely be back!

The selection of yarn is overpriced, this shop is basically just a shop for anyone with a lot of money now. The customer service... sucks..the owher looks through you, no greeting, nothing.. but a regular comes in.. all smiles and warm welcome and the shop helper.. rude af read more

I hadn't knit anything in a year. I was undergoing chemo and lost the desire to knit. I attended a special event hosted by BMYS two weeks ago highlighting La Bien Aimee yarns. It was AMAZING. Aimee from the yarn company and the shop staff were friendly, helpful, kind and fun. There was great patron support and everyone shopping and attending was happy. Danni and her staff have assembled a modern selection of yarn with depth and value. This store and event rekindled my love of knitting. I found a new yarn vendor and bought way too many pretty yarns to enhance my stash. I had an exceptional time. Can't wait to return. It was worth the trip from SC to attend the event and shop. Will definitely return and will be calling my orders in until I return! Thank you for being so fun y'all! read more

I stopped in today for the first time while I was in town. what a delight! lots of variety, and larger than many other shops I have visited in the past. the only hard part of picking out a skein of sock yarn was choosing from all of the offerings. They offer a "repeat customer" discount program (after your free card has collected enough stamps, you get a gift card), and are quite friendly. There was comfortable seating for my husband to employ while he waited for me to check out all of the choices. I will definitely be back! read more

This is my favourite yarn shop. It is absolutely beautiful inside and has the greatest selection. It's definitely all high end but has all the best yarn brands. I spent a lot in here because there was just so much that I loved. I appreciated that the owners were very safe with the current covid situation and require sanitizing hands and wearing a mask. They had some gorgeous sample knots up too. I would live in this store if I could. The area it's in in gorgeous too. The owners are also very friendly and helpful too. read more

If you are a knitter, this shop is a must!! I had looked at their website and found so many (too many) yarns I liked. It's only 90 minutes from my home, so I decided to check it out in person. WOW!! I've never seen so many high quality yarns in one shop and so beautifully organized. Donna, Don, and Nancy were ever so gracious and helpful! This is the best place to get in trouble! I'll be a regular! read more

I was visiting from out of town and decided to stop in the shop. The store is clearly organized and labeled by yarn weight making is easy to find specific yarn. They have a particularly great selection of Spincycle Yarn and tools/notions. One of the things that I thought was particularly great about the shop was that they have finished project examples with the pattern name/designer (so you can find it online/Ravelry) around the shop along with some kits. I haven't knitted in awhile and I ended up picking up some yarn and circular needles to make one of the projects that they had displayed. Overall, a great yarn shop! read more

Black Mountain Yarn Shop - Knitting Supplies Near Me - Black Mountain, North Carolina

I would recommend against ordering anything online from this company. In November, I saw a post on the company's Instagram advertising a product and saying to click the site in the Instagram bio to order. This seemed like a great Christmas gift for my mom, who is a fan of the shop. It cost almost $10 for shipping, but since I do not live in the area and my mom really wanted the product, I ordered anyways. The product did not arrive. It was marked as delivered by USPS. I waited a few days and then emailed Black Mountain Yarn Shop. After a few days, I received an email and a call from the owners. The call included an owner who was very frustrated with me and asked if I had thought to look in other areas it could have been delivered. I am not sure what happened, I have not had issues with deliveries before. But when I pay almost $10 shipping, I expect the company to do their part to work with the shipping company. The owners put in a case with USPS. Christmas came and went and I was not given a replacement product or even an apology. Black Mountain Yarn posted an Instagram after Christmas advertising people buy from their site. I left a comment about my experience ordering and not ever receiving the product. The comment was deleted, I was blocked from the Instagram, and I received a direct message on Instagram from the owner telling me the following: "As you know, according to USPS tracking your package was delivered "In/At Mailbox" which means we did ship your purchase to you and if you did not receive it, something happened to it at your end. " She also said: "My hope is the next time you decide to post something on social media that is harmful to someone, you will examine your conscience about your post knowing you are not telling all of the facts." Ouch. Some customer service. Today I received an email from the owner clarifying the case is closed and I will not be refunded. I figured this would be a simple apology or replacement of the product. It was under $30 total including shipping. I don't know why I was treated so poorly. I have never had a more terrible experience with ordering products online read more

The shop is bright and open with an excellent selection of yarn and supplies. Staff is not welcoming or friendly. I was the only customer in the store. No one greeted me or asked if I needed assistance. At one point the owner was standing right next to me but did not say a word. She only spoke to me at checkout to tell me my total. Previous owners were much more welcoming. read more

have always loved this yarn shop for the quality and selection of the yarn. I was there recently and found that its missing the friendliness and warmth that I always felt before. No one engaged with me or offered real assistance until I checked out when the clerk asked if I found everything ok. The shop still has beautiful product, but unfortunately I didn't really have a desire to stick around. Btw, I was the only customer in the shop. read more

Yarn shops are getting harder and harder to come by these days, so it's great to see one so close to my family down in Black Mountain. This shop (unlike others I've been to) is very community driven, and you'll find a decent selection of local yarns, accessories, and tools from the Western NC/Carolina community. I've been to two other yarn shops in this region, and this one has a larger selection of "accessible" yarns as well as the FIRST in the area to get some of the designer brands. Getting back to the community-involvement. I stopped in for one sit and stitch and loved it. Everyone knows everyone, though my family down there isn't as recognizable, lol. It's a great place to learn about the area, as well as some local history or just getting your feet wet in the Carolina Mountains. I can't wait to get back on the East Coast, specifically Black Mountain. The sense of "home" in that area, and with the yarn community there, makes me miss it so much! read more

One of my favorite yarns shops! They have an incredible selection of yarns and patterns to choice from. Many knitted samples around the shop to give you inspiration. The owners and staff are friendly, knowledgable and truly make you feel welcome. Our knitting group drives up several times a year then lunches at the Veranda ( the shop will call in to hold a table). If your a knitter this shop will become a fav for you! read more

Incredible customer service! I ordered a couple of skeins of yarn and received it in just a couple of days. When I opened the package, I realized it was the correct color, but incorrect weight of yarn. I sent the store an email, and immediately received a message back with an apology for the error, and a promise that they will send the correct yarn and a free return label for the incorrect fiber. I got the return label, and my corrected order should be here tomorrow! Black Mountain's customer service is TOP NOTCH, and I would absolutely recommend this business to all my friends! read more

If you want to find a great yarn shop that is friendly, knowledgeable, well supplied with new yarn and accessories all the time, plus know your name.....this place is for you! There are tons of classes and groups to join so that you can excel your knitting or crochet skills. Eunice Williams (instructor) has advanced my skill sets 2 fold! I've enjoyed this powerhouse of a yarn shop for a year now and consider it to be one of my favorite places to be, My "Happy Place". Donna and Don are charming and first rate shop owners of this charming yarn shop. read more

This was my initial email request I sent to Black mountain yarn shop and it was denied in a nasty manner. Dear Don and to who it may concern, Good afternoon. My name is Beth Locascio and I am founder and head administrator of Workbasket Warriors Project, a group that knits and crochet blankets and coats for animals in need in shelters and rescue groups all over the country. Each one of us focuses on our own community. I am based out of Asheville, North Carolina. My rescue group is Brother Wolf here in Asheville. I would like to request a yarn donation. It doesn't have to be much as I know you donate to many others. Anything you can donate to us would be so greatly appreciated. Attached are a few things so you can see what we have been doing and that we are real and authentic. I'm hoping that you will consider donating yarn to us and that you know just how wonderful it feels to know that a bundle of joy gets to feel the warmth and love from a blanket made from the heart. Beth Locascio Founder and head administrator I look forward to hearing from you and have a blessed day. Warmest regards, Beth Locascio This is a despicable shop and the manager is the rudest sub human I've come across in this area. Needs to have mouth washed out with soap. I knit and crochet blankets and coats for animals in need in shelters and rescue groups. I emailed her all the info they needed about our group several times and received no answer. Today I called and she was belgerant and mean. Told me she had no yarn to donate. I then asked her when she might have some yarn for this cause and she then told me it was none of my business and she owed me nothing and that why should she donate yarn. Sure, if you go in and spend your money they might act like human beings but not in this case. I have met some real losers in my lifetime but this one needs a good therapist, some Xanax AND meditation with lots of Yoga. Go elsewhere as this bitch hates animals and most important hates herself. What ashame. Talk about TRUE COLORS. Just to add, Earth Guild, NC Home and Craft, Lions Brand Yarn, Jimmy Bean Yarn, Huntingdon yarn company in Philly and more gave with their hearts with no hesitation and keep in touch. They love our most precious gifts of joy on this planet, our animals who love unconditionally even the most hateful people. Amen read more

This place is extremely friendly. The staff is super helpful. My mom loves this shop and insisted on coming here a couple times in our brief stay in ashville. I would stop in on my way to the dripolater coffee shop just up the road to see how she was doing and I was instantly greeted with smiles from not only the staff but also the customers who were relaxing at a table working on projects. It seemed like everyone knew everyone. Friendliness is definitely contagious. Yarn isn't really my thing but this place was awesome with projects of all kinds and if help was needed it was there for you. I even overheard the one worker encourage someone to come back simply to just work on her project with them. Definitely a place to revisit. read more

Great service, great yarn choices, classes. I recommend a stop here if you visit Asheville or nearby locations & you knit or crochet.

This is my favorite yarn shop! Good thing it's not too close by or I'd be broke! The staff is nice and friendly and so helpful. I was admiring some yarn that was very pricey and the staff showed me an alternative that was much closer to my budget. They have a great selection of yarn and so many samples. I live in Charlotte, NC but I try to make it in to this shop a few times a year, once even driving about 45 minutes out of my way to get there! The owner even remembered my name the last time I was there, which is pretty incredible considering I'm not local. Can't wait to go back next time I'm nearby! read more

This is a fabulous yarn store and the rest of the town is darling as well. It is a quick trip from Asheville. I was immediately greeted and felt at home despite being a rather newish knitter. I wanted some local "from the area" yarns and they had many options. The staff/owner could not have been more helpful! I even asked for some color help and they were great about that as well. I could have spent much longer in the store but my husband was waiting. They provided a lunch recommendation which was equally as lovely. We wished we would have known about the town earlier in our stay we could have easily spent the day there. I would most definitely recommend the yarn store and hope to be back in the area again!! read more

This is one of my favorite yarn shops, and I stop in every time I'm in the area. The yarns are gorgeous and the staff is friendly.

This yarn shop is outstanding. It's spacious, with comfortable chairs if you're inclined to stay for a while. Yarn is organized effectively, with inspirational shop samples strategically distributed around the shop. They stock a nice range of yarn, and lots of colorways, at fair prices. They also have a section of needles and notions - maybe not as extensive as the yarn, but certainly sufficient. The staff are there to help you, but happy to leave you to browse if that's your preference. read more

Can't tell you how much I enjoy this yarn shop. The owner, Donna is so warm and helpful. My friend and I have only been there during two separate trips to the area and both times we returned full of ideas and great projects. She really understands what you're trying to accomplish and helps you find just the right yarn. The selection includes all my favorites. The energy in this shop is so inviting. You can sit, relax and enjoy all the delightful people who come and go. read more
