I took this tour with my mom while we were on a Princess cruise - we went out on July 23, 2019. The tour was wonderful! We were on the first tour of the day that left the dock at 0830, and we saw at least a dozen bald eagles, a herd of harbor seals, and have tons of gorgeous pictures too. Captain Kyle was a great tour guide and kept the entire boat informed on lots of history and information, plus he would stay in an area long enough to get plenty of great photos. His hands, Andrew and Brian, were not only adorable but were awesome and very knowledgeable as well. Andrew even sung us some sea shantys with his very impressive voice! We had delicious hot chocolate while on the tour, and also some snacks including a wonderful salmon spread, and they even gave us the recipe! Thanks for a wonderful time. read more

This was a surprisingly awesome tour. Jamie, Jeff, and crew did a fantastic job of making the tour fun, informational, and filled with tons of amazing wildlife. We started with a nice ride to the harbor where we boarded a comfortable vessel for some eagle and totem watching. Along the way we were fed some tasty snacks and hot chocolate while enjoying the beautiful sights of Ketchikan. Definitely a great excursion. read more

The captain was very funny! He did a good job pointing out eagles, seals and other various wild life. He did a great job with telling us the history about the light houses. The deck hands also were very nice and very helpful. I highly recommend doing this excursion while in Ketchikan! You may also get to see some hump back whales. I did not see any but you may! My family and I loved this excursion. After a short, pleasant bus ride we were loaded right onto the boat and we were off on our adventure. The entire staff was warm and kind, Captain Jeff was informative and entertaining, and the scenery was truly breathtaking. They served plenty of hot cocoa and a nice spread of snacks. We saw so many bald eagles! That was a highlight for me. There was also a great view of the totem poles and lighthouse, but honestly just being out on the water in the midst of such natural beauty was the main attraction for my group. I could have stayed out there all day, listening to Captain Jeff describe everything around us. I highly recommend this tour, especially as a cruise excursion. read more

Our bus driver Will (?), Captain Jeff, & his crew, were all personable, informative, & enjoyed sharing their knowledge of Ketchikan, Eagles (saw so many eagles & nests), Totem Village, & Lighthouse. We boarded a 20-30 passenger boat where we had the ideal seating location in the covered upper deck, where it was easy to step onto the open deck for great photo ops. Of my 3 times cruising Alaska & visiting Ketchikan, I think this was the BEST choice for an excursion. read more

We took an excellent boat tour of the Inside Passage near Ketchikan, Alaska. Captain Jeff Karlson, an Alaska native, took us on a fascinating tour pointing out trees full of bald eagles complete with huge eagle nests, ancient totem poles & spiritual buildings of Alaska's First People, and quaint lighthouses. Additionally Captain Jeff shared Alaskan history as well as current issues. We even had home made refreshments on board complete with s recipe for salmon spread. This is a must do for anyone who visits Ketchikan, Alaska. read more

This excursion was horrible. We paid almost $200 for the two of us thinking we would get up close to the eagles and be guaranteed ten Eagles' nests in addition to adults everywhere, as their website says; instead, they they pointed out three nests, none of which had anything in them. The majority of the time--easily 65-70% of the time on the boat--the captain went very slowly along the coast talking about who lived in which houses, rich families and people known in the area. Who cares?! We came to see wildlife and nature, not real estate! Some of the stories weren't accurate as well with at least one home being described as lived in by a widow that entices men in the water by coming out in her robe to wave; the house was obviously empty with a big for sale sign on the front. We did not circumnavigate the Guard Island lighthouse as heir website claims. We pulled up, turned around, and left. As for wildlife, we saw four adult eagles that were not nearly as close as we had expected them to be; my camera struggled to zoom in close enough to get pictures, which were made all the worse by the boat rocking because the captain did not always wait for everyone to get a good spot to take a photo. We also saw seals sunbathing on rocks, which was cool, but the "commonly seen" whales, deer, and bears were nowhere to be seen. Since we never got off the boat, which is how our Carnival guide made it sound like it would be, we essentially paid $200 to sit on a boat and be driven in an eight-mile circle for two hours by a captain making horribly poor jokes and giving us a real estate tour. This was a major disappointment and I plan on contacting Carnival and the company directly to inquire about a refund. I would into recommend this to old people who want to be on the water but literally don't want to walk or stand and e shown big houses for almost two hours. read more

Capt Rob & his crew were awesome & we hit the mother lode seeing so many bald eagles that I lost count, seals, & 2 humpback whales! The Guard Island Light was awesome & had the added bonus of a bald eagle perched at the top. The crew provided binoculars & were constantly on the lookout for wildlife. The crew served hot drinks & snacks to make it even more enjoyable. Highly recommended! read more

Captain Rob is quite the character! Definitely an old salt! Had an enjoyable day, even though the Ketchikan weather was lousy. Saw everything we were promised: lots of eagles, totems, and lighthouses! Add in a few seals and a nice tour of the area. Boat had plenty of space and lots of binoculars. Plenty of snacks and great hot chocolate. read more

We saw some eagles (from a distance) and a bear (from an even greater distance), Those were the most positive aspects of the excursion. On the negative side, we didn't appreciate Captain Rob's humor (e.g., about women) and inappropriate comments (e.g., about people on welfare). He also didn't always tell us where to look for things - like when he spotted a whale. As a result, most of us didn't get to see any. I was also disappointed that we went by the totem park so quickly we barely had time to take pictures, even though it was highlighted in the name of the tour. The lighthouse also wasn't much. I wish we had saved our money or chosen a different excursion. read more

This was the absolute best excursion out of our whole cruise - and we did many. Capt. Rob was fun and we loved his sense of humor. We saw plenty of eagles and even more whales then we saw on our whale quest excursion. He masterfully guided the boat so we had great viewing of all we discovered. First, this is a very nice, if somewhat expensive tour. Captain Rob is an experienced seaman and naturalist. Nice, plentiful snacks, binoculars for everyone are thoughtful touches, and his assistants are fabulous. There were plenty of eagles and the day was gorgeous. But...Captain Rob does a "humorous" monologue pretty much the whole time. Favorite targets are: neighbors & competitors (dumb & greedy), women (dumb & gabby), foreigners (cowardly Italians, others dumb, hairy and smelly), Obama (dumb, and more), people on welfare (dumb, lazy, & greedy); and...tourists (that is, us, the paying customers--dumb and dumber). Cringe-worthy juvenile sex jokes, and announcements of price tags on every house we pass, along with dishing the dirt on the occupants. All this on an excursion billed as a nature tour! Geez... I am sure that the Captain would reply that he just uses a little "politically incorrect" humor and doesn't mean to offend anyone, but this is really non-stop ugly, mean-spirited stuff at everyone else's expense. My husband and I left feeling a little queasy, and it wasn't from seasickness! You may feel that you can get past this unpleasantness because the boat is nice and the crew warm and well-informed. For us, it was just too much and we can't recommend it. read more

This was our third trip with L,T & E in the past four years! We are never disappointed. We had Captain Chelsey this trip and she did not disappoint. Saw several bald eagles and three eagle nests and sea lions out by the lighthouse. The totem park is always interesting to see and photograph. World's best hot chocolate is served on board along with fantastic snacks. The crew is always helpful and informative, No whales this trip but saw them last year on the trip. This was our first tour on our Sea/land tour of Alaska. Did not disappoint. There was plenty of room inside and out of the boat. We had an informative ride from the ship to the boat, (great driver) and met wonderful people. The crew was very entertaining ( great stories and great "sea" songs) and kept us on schedule. We saw lighthouses, totems and heard great stories. Wonderful eagle sightings and those nests are gigantic. I highly recommend the tour. And the salmon dip is great. read more

A tour that delivered exactly as promised. We saw Eagles, Totem Park, sea lions, and cool jellyfish. All of the people from the van driver, to the mates, and Captain "Obvious" Rob were so accomodating. They made it a point to make sure everyone got to see everything and got their pictures. I loved his narration but be warned if you are looking for a sweet or bland narration, Captain Rob is not for you. He is very knowledgable about the history of Ketchikan and the wildlife but does most through his sardonic humor. There were snacks and delicious salmon spread. Very safe and there is space on top or covered below to suit your tastes. read more
