    Our "gourmet" snack

Though the crew was courteous, there were many issues with this trip. The clearly aged boat motor was so loud that we could only hear about every 5th word of what was mostly prerecorded narration. The "gourmet" snack was one small piece of salmon, some type of dip, two round pickle slices, and a few wheat thins and ritz crackers. Though we understand that wildlife is not guaranteed, we spent roughly one hour looking at two bald eagles. In total we saw two bald eagles, a handful of jumping fish, and a couple of seals beached on an incredibly unimpressive lighthouse beach. My kids spent most of the trip coloring on the back of their bingo cards. Other kids napped, played on their phones or wandered the cabin. Definitely not kid friendly. Overall our family of 5 spent $650 for the trip which would've been better spent on the docks of Ketchikan.

This was an excursion from a cruise. Highly recommend it. We saw eagles, the totem poles and other amazing wildlife. The light snack and beverage were wonderful ( highlighted local companies). The Captain and crew were great.

We booked the lighthouse excursion through Holland America, and it was great! The bus was waiting for us at the dock, and the driver gave us a guided tour of Ketchikan on the way to the boat excursion. Captain Kyle and his crew were great! We had just taken off, and he found a bald eagle on a pier nearby. We saw at least three more eagles before actually spotting a group of wild orcas! It was amazing to watch them in the wild. We went by the Totem Park and the lighthouse. They served us hot chocolate and a plate of local snacks, not to mention binoculars for everyone. There are two levels to the boat. The upper level has bench seating and an outdoor area. The bottom floor has tables with benches, and then an open, enclosed area in the back. Since it was raining, we opted for the open space on the bottom, which ended up being perfect for us. We were able to open a couple of windows to take photos, and had enough room to stand up when we needed to. Highly recommend this tour!

This was an excursion that my husband booked for our NCL Cruise. It was a drizzly cool day (August) , but glad we were able to see several bald eagles, jumping salmon, and birds. My phone couldn't get good photos of the eagles, but I appreciated being that close to see them with binoculars. I live 2,700 miles away (no bald eagles there!) so this was truly an experience. We got to see totem poles and learn the meaning behind them, the light house, and learn about a place I never knew about. We were served a delightful tasting of local silver wild Alaska smoked salmon, wild lingonberry jam, salmon dip, kelp pickles and crackers. There's also local coffee available, various teas, and soda. Captain Jeff Karlson and his crew, Maddy and Alex were very hospitable. It was an amazing experience to be on the water, surrounded by nature, wild life, in a place I would never have thought to visit had it not been for the cruise. If you like the light lunch provided on the boat, you can purchase the salmon, jelly, and kelp in their gift shop. Along with other items to bring back home. It was nice to support local vendors rather than some big box store (there is actually a Walmart in Ketchikan!) Bummed that we weren't able to see a bear, but understandably enough this is not a zoo....This is wildlife so if you can see it great, if not then maybe on the next trip.

Even in the pouring rain, this was such a great tour! From the bus ride to the actual boat tour, the guides were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. As for the tour itself, it was lovely - great ride and great views. And although I was not expecting too much from the snack service, I really enjoyed it, especially the smoked salmon with lingenberry. We were especially lucky on this trip to see not only several bald eagles, but also a pod of playful orcas. All in all, I recommend this tour to anyone!

Pilot Jeff, Mads and Alex are so great! This was an education and relaxing boat ride! Upper deck as well as heated lower cabin with tables and benches as well as a walkout on the bow and viewing inner cabin. Many eagles and nests and we spied some juveniles being trained by their parents! June 9 2023 was sunny and no jacket needed! Mads and Alex served us great tasty snacks of kelp pickles, smoked salmon by a local company, crackers and salmon dip! We snagged some warm beanies, chocolate and purchased kelp pickles for delivery to our Utah home!excursion is well worth the price and time! Norwegian denies their passengers the ability to spend enough time in Ketchikan. It was either an excursion or 8 mile ride to the town, not both! We wished we would have gotten to see the great town, but we're grateful to see the totems, eagles the stag lighthouse and experience this great crew! We'd do it again!

Awesome awesome excursion. If you're traveling to Ketchikan you should definitely do the Lighthouse, totems& Eagles excursion. Super nice crew.

This trip was fabulous! The crew was outstanding and they provided a small snack and beverage. The sites were absolutely amazing. The weather in Ketchikan is rainy but it does not dull the experience. I highly recommend this excursion.

The tour winds through the charming, rustic streets of Ketchikan before making a splash--literally--into the harbor for some incredible waterfront views. The live narration was fun, informative, and full of puns that kept us laughing the whole way. Our guide shared interesting facts and trivia about the town's history and culture, and we were lucky enough to spot bald eagles soaring overhead. The mix of entertainment and sightseeing made it easy to decide where we wanted to go next once the tour ended. Yes, I'm like most don't want to risk getting left.... however, if you plan it right by shuttling downtown shortly after docking and book an early tour, it certainly works out and saves you money. Stacy called me first thing in the morning and wisely moved my tour up 1/2 hour since NCL was casting off ridiculously early. That was very kind of her and shows the forethought of the company, because they didn't have to do that. Could've reasoned... "that's the time you booked, oh well." But that really says alot about them. Great tour, friendly and well trained staff. Highly recommend!!

Date of tour: July 18, 2025…read more Really enjoyed this all-women(!) crew on our visit to the Dawes Glacier. The boat was clean and spacious--there's nothing worse than being on a boat that is packed to the gills with people--with two levels to enjoy and outside areas as well, including a third level that was opened when the boat was not in motion. Everyone was friendly and the snack and drink options were plentiful and for the most part, affordable. Given the captive audience, I appreciated that they weren't outright gouging us during our journey. They also offered up some free items as well, which was also quite unexpected. Crew interacted well with the passengers, asking them how their cruise has been and where they were from. The collection of glacier ice to be used in the making of drinks at no additional cost was a nice touch, even giving the kids cups of glacier ice without a charge was something you rarely see in this day and age! There were some things that could be improved, though: - The captain scolding the crew over the public address system was unnecessary. Apparently the other boat forgot their net and we needed to pass it over to them but the crew was busy helping passengers and didn't want to make the lines longer by going to fetch the net and pass it over. Confident that this could have been handled better. - The free donut holes were awful. Like puffs of stale bread that sat next to sugar, hoping the wind would blow some sweetness onto them. I know, it's free, but still something that should not have been served. - Hearing a crew member awkwardly navigate the tipping section of the credit card machine literally 50 times the exact same way. Saying, "You can just hit skip. If I do it, I'll get talked to about it." There are so many other ways to handle this that don't come across like she's going to be beaten at the end of the cruise.

I really wanted to love this tour in Ketchikan Alaska, but the experience didn't quite match what…read morewas promised. The tour booked was called the best of Ketchikan and we were on NCL. For those crusing to know NCL docks hella far, so it takes 40 minutes to an hour (after you get through the queue to get on a shuttle, shuttle ride and construction downtown). From where you are dropped off in town it's another 10-15 minute walk to the visitors bureau (where the tour starts) so plan ahead! The itinerary listed stops like a waterfall, Rotary Beach, and watching a totem pole carving but those never happened. Instead, most stops felt rushed. We usually had about 10 to 13 minutes to hop out, snap a photo, and rush back, which made it hard to really enjoy or learn much about each spot. A little more time and storytelling at each stop would have gone a long way. My husband said he felt like we spent a majority of the time chasing salmon. That said, our guide Ken was fantastic. He's super personable, and clearly cares about what he does. If this review were based just on him, it would be five stars. The issue was more with how the tour was planned and executed. The start was a bit chaotic. We met at the Visitor Bureau and almost got on the wrong bus since there wasn't much guidance on where to go. We ended up on a smaller bus and did a quick drive by of Creek Street, where we barely had time to see the salmon run and ladder before moving on. The eagle education center stop had potential, but it was rushed. The presentation on totem poles and local wildlife was over in a flash, though the king salmon tasting was delicious. At Herring Cove, we were told bears are often spotted, but no luck that day. We did see some seals, which was neat. Right after that, we were whisked to a tent selling jams and spreads, a very obvious tourist trap stop. The tour wrapped up at the totem pole park. It was a beautiful site, but again, we had to choose between listening to Ken or walking around to take photos. We opted for the photos and ended up missing most of the context. The rainy weather didn't help and on a sunny day it might have felt different. Overall, Ken deserves all the credit in the world, but the tour itself felt disorganized and cut short on the experiences it advertised.
