Unfortunately this did not live up to the hype. The place was cute but the pastries were "at least" maybe more.... day old....took them back to the house and had to microwave them and they were still tough to get a fork through....very sad (buyer's remorse as well as we spent $80 on 11 pastries and two coffees). My suggestion...if you're gonna go, don't go the first day or two they are open? Flaky, fresh, and perfectly sweet without being over the top. We arrived right at opening (6:30 a.m.) and walked right in, but by 9:30 there were about 30 people in line -- so definitely come early if you can. The staff was friendly, polite, and super efficient, even with the growing crowd. There's also a little "day-old" discounted section near the door, which is a great find if you want to grab a few extra treats to take home. Our go to when going to Dalphin Island. Freshly baked pastries and HUGE sandwiches. Cinnamon roll smell hits you the minute you walk in. Yeast... cinnamon and sugar!!! Pro tip before you go: this place is popular (for good reason), so if you want some fresh made pastries, get there early! My group walked in at about 10:45 am on a Tuesday and the only things left were croissants and oatmeal cookies. While this was very disappointing, we still greatly enjoyed our breakfasts of croissants and assorted drinks! My friends loved their frappes and smoothies, while I opted for an iced caramel latte. To be honest, it was one of the best lattes I've had in a while! Whatever they use for the caramel sauce was divine, and went great with my croissant. Delicious! Busy!!! Very friendly with great customer service! We went several times while on vacation and they were always SO busy, but we can see why! Just be patient :) The first time we went my husband's drink order went missing and he waited a little longer than the norm (even though he didn't say anything). When someone asked what he was still waiting for they realized the error, made him his drink, and gave 2 complimentary croissants! He tried multiple times to reject them but they insisted. Perfection at the beach. Worth every calorie. Our group stopped in before the beach and ordered a smorgasbord of things. The line looked long, but it wasn't at all. They know what they're doing. I had a turkey croissant sandwich with Munster cheese and all the fixins. You think it's just a turkey sandwich, but it was so good. The croissant is fabulous and the portion gigantic. Also got the chocolate chip cookie (comes with 3 cookies) - a standard cookie but very great - and a blueberry danish. As other reviewers have said, the danish was amazing. It's almost like it's base is a cheese bagel - it's so soft and chewy and flavorful. My mom is still raving about it. She said it's one of the best desserts she's ever eaten. The rest of the group got cinnamon rolls too. They raves about them plus they're huge. It was certainly a big meal on the way to the beach, but it was worth it. I'm a little sad to make this review, I came here last summer and it was great. I especially loved a woman who worked there. She was so polite, happy, caring and she really just made the whole place have a great feel. This August I came back to visit Dauphin Island and I didn't see the woman this time but the entire atmosphere was just NOT polite and happy at all. It's like they didn't even care to have my service... no smiles, and even an attitude when I asked for mayo on a breakfast sandwhich I got. Then this is the weirdest thing that happened.. I was waiting by the car for my friend to come back out and the camper parked behind the bakery someone lives in the house and camper and I was screamed at by the crazy woman living there when I was by my car on the lighthouse bakery property! She definitely seemed to be on drugs. I don't even know what she was screaming and yelling but over all the experience this last time was not at all it and the coffees/food were very overpriced and weren't even that great. :( so I'm bummed because I was really excited to come back here and it was a disappointment all the way around. read more

I wish I remembered to take a few pictures... But our pastries were that good, there was no time for photos. Either way, they wouldn't do them justice! I got a variety of pastries: cinnamon rolls, danish, turnovers and muffins. The danish was the best myself or my mother have ever ate. I loved the small fruit filling but also the cream cheese top was melt in your mouth. The cinnamon roll was giant and still warm by the time we got it home. It's a cute Victorian house with great decor and both indoor and outdoor seating. While walking up to the patio, someone was leaving, and we were immediately hit with the sweet smell of pastries and baked bread. The workers were very friendly, too.
