We heard about Lighthouse Bakery on the island and we stopped off finally this am as we were leaving! We had cinnamon rolls, pigs in a blanket, cookies, iced chai! It was all delicious and I wanted more of everything! The most wonderful thing happened though- I left my purse there. THAT is not wonderful and we were almost to Montgomery when I realized. I called and asked if it was there, it was. Andrea- was beyond kind and got me to calm down. She agreed to take it to a UPS store- after working her early full shift, and call me and let me have it shipped overnight to me. It had everything in it. She called me and we got the purse shipped. I tried to send her some money for her troubles and she refused. This was the kindest thing someone could do and I could not be more grateful. Thank you to Andrea for going above and beyond. Ordered a two-tier beach themed seashell cake. Left with a one-tier cake with a random heart scratched in the top. I've never seen a bakery scrape into the icing to decorate so this was definitely a confusing experience especially since we never requested any hearts. The ratio of cake to buttercream was off. Way too much icing that was super thick and we didn't like the flavor. We ended up eating the cake part from one slice and throwing away the rest. Our local friends didn't even want it. I would just stick to the pastries next time and drive off the island to a professional baker like we have in years past. read more

Flaky, fresh, and perfectly sweet without being over the top. We arrived right at opening (6:30 a.m.) and walked right in, but by 9:30 there were about 30 people in line -- so definitely come early if you can. The staff was friendly, polite, and super efficient, even with the growing crowd. There's also a little "day-old" discounted section near the door, which is a great find if you want to grab a few extra treats to take home. We had heard great things about this place but our experience was not as good.We arrived at just after 10 in the morning and did not make it to the counter to order until 11. Almost an hour in line was not the problem as we assumed the bakery goods had to be excellent if the line was this long. I still wonder, because by the time we reached the front they did not have anything for which we came, left. Were I working there I would have made some sort of announcement (about what was and what was not avaiable) letting folks in this long line that they were potentially waiting for nothing. Unfortunately this did not live up to the hype. The place was cute but the pastries were "at least" maybe more.... day old....took them back to the house and had to microwave them and they were still tough to get a fork through....very sad (buyer's remorse as well as we spent $80 on 11 pastries and two coffees). My suggestion...if you're gonna go, don't go the first day or two they are open? My group walked in at about 10:45 am on a Tuesday and the only things left were croissants and oatmeal cookies. While this was very disappointing, we still greatly enjoyed our breakfasts of croissants and assorted drinks! My friends loved their frappes and smoothies, while I opted for an iced caramel latte. To be honest, it was one of the best lattes I've had in a while! Whatever they use for the caramel sauce was divine, and went great with my croissant. Perfection at the beach. Worth every calorie. Our group stopped in before the beach and ordered a smorgasbord of things. The line looked long, but it wasn't at all. They know what they're doing. Delicious! Busy!!! Very friendly with great customer service! We went several times while on vacation and they were always SO busy, but we can see why! Just be patient :) The first time we went my husband's drink order went missing and he waited a little longer than the norm (even though he didn't say anything). When someone asked what he was still waiting for they realized the error, made him his drink, and gave 2 complimentary croissants! He tried multiple times to reject them but they insisted. I'm a little sad to make this review, I came here last summer and it was great. I especially loved a woman who worked there. She was so polite, happy, caring and she really just made the whole place have a great feel. This August I came back to visit Dauphin Island and I didn't see the woman this time but the entire atmosphere was just NOT polite and happy at all. It's like they didn't even care to have my service... no smiles, and even an attitude when I asked for mayo on a breakfast sandwhich I got. Then this is the weirdest thing that happened.. I was waiting by the car for my friend to come back out and the camper parked behind the bakery someone lives in the house and camper and I was screamed at by the crazy woman living there when I was by my car on the lighthouse bakery property! She definitely seemed to be on drugs. I don't even know what she was screaming and yelling but over all the experience this last time was not at all it and the coffees/food were very overpriced and weren't even that great. :( so I'm bummed because I was really excited to come back here and it was a disappointment all the way around. read more

I got a variety of pastries: cinnamon rolls, danish, turnovers and muffins. The danish was the best myself or my mother have ever ate.
