We had three big 30+-year-old skylights over our double-story height entrance hall that had begun leaking in recent winters. One company came to estimate for replacements, but said they couldn't do it as the size was non-standard, and recommended Lighten Up Skylight. Their assessor came around very promptly and we received quotes for custom skylights either acrylic or dual-glazed, with the extra option of having the flashing replaced. We decided on the dual-glazed with replacement flashing: lead-time 4-5 weeks for custom fabrication. We were notified well within that time that the new skylights were ready: Lighten Up Skylight's team, led by George, arrived on time and carried out the work quickly and efficiently--and on the hottest day of the year. Most impressive was when George, having inspected the existing flashing, said that it looked perfectly good and really didn't need replacing, thus saving an extra day's work and us nearly $4k. We really couldn't have been more impressed both by the team's work and the remarkable thermal efficiency of the new double-glazed panels even when withstanding the recent 103F outside temperature. read more

These guys were awesome. We replace two outdated skylights. Chip and Jack were communicative and worked my schedule. The crew was efficient and finished both skylights in one morning. No silliness with these guys. Ignacio (hope I remembered his name right) even came back in and recaulked the inside a second time to make sure every inch was done correctly. They worked with me on the price and installed these beautiful solar powered Velux skylights! Couldn't be happier with this business. read more

We hired Lighten Up Skylight to install one small skylight. A year into it, the skylight leaked. This company refused to come and inspect it. They argued from the beginning that they would not be wasting their time in checking the skylight as their skylights just don't leak. Though we explained that it was leaking and that the warranty was still in effect, the staff was rude and senseless. We had the roofer check the skylight and the skylight is leaking. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE NOT GOOD BUSINESS PEOPLE. read more

At the suggestion of an acquaintance, I hired Lighten Up Skylight (Jack Randall at 562 500-4532) to replace three Velux manually openable skylights at our Long Beach, CA home. The work was done in connection with a composite shingle roof replacement effort in early September 2025. Jack, the owner of Lighten Up Skylight, provided a reasonable estimate to install the replacement Velux deck mounted 2x4 solar-powered skylights that they sold and to install a curb mounted electric powered Velux 2x4 skylight I had on hand. Jack was very patient in answering a host of questions I had about the product and installation process. He is a very experienced "old hand" in the skylight business. We needed to be flexible in adjusting the schedule for the installation work, which had to be coordinated with our roofing team and other projects the Lighten Up firm had undertaken. After the initial contact Jack quickly dispatched a two-person team to inspect and measure the existing skylight installations. They also took great photos to document the current skylight conditions. Months later, led by expert installer George, another team arrived when they said they would for the initial installation work then returned later to install the solar batteries and provide instruction regarding the control devices. They cleaned up each day, were very polite, and worked well with the roofing team. The project turned out well and I am delighted to recommend the Lighten Up Skylight firm for skylight projects you might have. read more

Chip/Jack did a great job replacing our old skylight with Velux skylights. Very responsive on getting us an initial estimate and also getting them installed a few weeks ahead of schedule. Quick / clean installation and everything is working well. read more

I have a 30 year old skylight whose insulated glass had failed, so was perpetually fogging up and had a layer of calcification building up inside, so when I took it upon myself to clean the glass, it became clear that new glass was needed. But should the entire unit be changed as well? I called Lighten Up because I was impressed by the manager's statement of how they treat their employees; they pay them a fair wage that ensures dedication and eliminates the perpetual turnover that is common in a business where the owner sees the model for a successful business as one where maximal profit is taken out of the margin for him/her own benefit. When I told the shop manager my dilemma he said he'd need to look at it and agreed to check it out if I brought it to them. So off I went to Sant Fe Springs the next morning with my skylight frame in the back of my car. What an experience my trip was. They checked out my frame and to quote "If I could sell twenty of these a day, that would be great, but you don't need a new one". We chatted about the company, I met the owner and one of the workers, and was so impressed by the organization of the shop and their attitude towards their handiwork, that I almost wish that I needed to actually buy a new skylight. The least I can do is post a hearty recommendation to anyone who needs a skylight, that this shop will do a good job and will be there to stand by their work. I only wish this kind of approach to one's craft were the norm and not the exception. read more

I replaced my old cloudy dome skylight with a beautiful new glass skylight. The team at Lighten Up Skylight made the process so easy! What a difference it makes! The process from proposal to completion was exactly as promised. Thanks Chip, Jack & George, I couldn't be happier! read more

This project was a year-long pursuit for me. I knew I wanted skylights from the moment we bought our house, but I was extremely nervous about the process and about the idea of cutting holes into our ceiling. We have vaulted ceilings with beams and our home was extremely dark during the daytime. In choosing a skylight contractor, I looked at Yelp reviews and wanted to make sure I picked one that had been in business a long time with a good track record. I'm very happy we ultimately selected Lighten Up Skylight. Jack and Chip were extremely responsive and answered all of my questions. They came out for a consultation and gave me a quote right away. I took my time with it only because we weren't sure about all the details (what size? what kind of glass? where to place them?) and I wanted to do some research. It took about three days to get the skylights installed. The crew that came out was extremely professional and hard working. They protected our floors and furniture and cleaned up after themselves. I'm very pleased with the new skylights and would recommend Lighten Up Skylight to any of our friends looking to get them done. The most important part for me is that this company has been in business for a very long time and they stand behind the quality of their work. Our skylights came with a 5 year warranty, and I'm resting assured that if anything goes wrong with them, Chip and Jack will be there to help fix it. Will update this review with pictures once we have the inside wells finished with drywall to match our ceilings! read more

About a year ago I contacted Lighten Up to get a price for an opening skylight to let heat out of my house...I have a 2 story hallway that acts like a chimney of heat so having an opening skylight seems like it would help cool the house. They set an appointment to come out and look over the job then emailed me a quote within a few days. I decided to move forward and they set up the order...now all I had to do is wait for the factory to male and deliver the skylight. It took over a month, but I was told that as I was ordering the skylight, so I knew up front. As soon as the skylight got to them, they set up an appointment within a couple of days to come out and install it. The installation was very fast and clean and within an hour the installer was showing me how it worked... And now the review, as you would guess from what I have already written I am very happy with the company and how professional they were. And did the skylight perform as expected, YES! It worked great, by the time I went to bed the house was much cooler that before I had the skylight installed, so I am very happy. I waited a year before writing this review because often things break soon after and I wanted to make sure the skylight did not leak when the winter rains got here and would the skylight open after sitting closed all winter. The good news is it did not leak and it works just fine after sitting all winter. I would highly recommend this company. read more

I paid a great deal of money to have this company replace skylights per stellar reviews. Now leaking like crazy within first year of installation and they insist it is not their fault. Do not use them. They are scammers! read more

Absolutely awesome in every respect! Our house came with a large 25 year old acrylic dome skylight that we didn't realize was leaking due to age and incorrect fit until the heavy rains last winter. Chip, Jack, and the team came out and carefully measured the existing unit, consulted with us on which style we wanted to go with (clear/bronze/opaque), ordered the new skylight, and installed it upon arrival. They took every possible precaution to make sure the roof was sealed up good and tight around the new skylight, and checked that the new flashing was watertight. The added bonus to the new skylight is that the light it brings into our kitchen is much brighter than the light that the previous skylight transmitted. I could not be more happy with the entire experience front to back. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a great company. read more

Amazing customer service. I contacted the company about a quote and received a response within hours. A few days later someone from the company wasmy place doing a visual inspection. They did a good job and communicated well and installed a big custom skylight with a crane for us.

What a wonderful job Lighten did for me. The skylight is absolutely beautiful, and only eclipsed by the expert installation. They crew was timely, quick, and clean - with the precision of surgeons. Moreover, the paperwork provided for my HOA was perfect and made the process a breeze. Thank you Lighten! read more

The postscript to my review and Jack's response: 1. The Velux rep showed up this afternoon to look at the job. 2. Nothing wrong with the skylight. The rep made a minor alignment adjustment which fixed the problem. Took all of 10 minutes once he was on the roof. 3. It was an install problem. 4. You could have had your installer make the adjustment in less time than it took to post the review and respond to it. read more

This is a review for Chip who took my call, even though he knew there was a low probability that we would end up being a customer, given the nature of our inquiry. He earned 5 stars in so many ways and I am more than happy to leave this review. He was fantastic in so many ways. First, he listened and was patient enough to allow me to explain the nature of my inquiry. So many people these days are impatient and too quick to presume and provide answers without really understanding the issue at heart. His answers were focused, straight to the point and responsive to the issues I'd laid out. He was comfortable in speaking to me and knew how to speak to me at my knowledge level. Based on the prior technical research I'd already done, his answers were spot on, and corroborated what I already learned. And he was generous in guiding me in the right direction, suggesting options, that I felt were intelligent. He even left me an open door in case I had some questions down the road, which of course, I'd only take up only if I were desperate, in deference to him and his time. I reached out to this company because they are manufacturers as well as distributors. I'd fully expected to be purchasing their services, but, after he understood our situation, he advised me to go directly with our roofer for the install since we are doing a re-roof, so as to not spend more monies than necessary. I highly recommend him! read more

From my initial contact with Chip to get an estimate, to the installation of the new dual pane glass with Armando the entire experience has been flawless. The roofer, who initially told me that I needed to replace the entire skylight, was incorrect and Chip explained that all I needed was new glass which cut the cost by 2/3. Again I could not be happier! read more

Finally replaced our old skylights (or repaired, rather, with new acrylic and re-sealed) with this company for 10% of the price we had been quoted by other companies to replace them with heavy glass ones. I was working on a television series and we melted 14 skylights at an ice rink. These were special skylights that let the light in, but not the heat. After several bids from skylight companies, we hired Lighten Up Skylight. The owner of the ice rink was very skeptical that the production company would take care of the damage and worried that Lighten Up Skylight would botch the installation. At the completion of the job, he was thrilled with the great job that Lighten Up Skylight did and thanked us for hiring such a skilled, efficient and knowledgeable company. read more

We absolutely love our skylights! One of the best investments we've made in our home!

Lighten UP Skylight (LUS) is the worst. Years ago I had (4) skylights installed, Lighten Up Skylight knowingly installed an incorrectly sized skylight....for years my house had dirt and breeze coming in and I could not figure out where this was coming from. I am now remodeling my home and had pull ALL (4) skylights due to roofing replacement. I contacted LUS .. they originally refused to discuss but luckily I had emails from years ago.... No one would return my calls. Ultimately, The Project Manager called back but only after calling the owner (Jack). His response was that they could not find any communications .... go figure. When I found mine, he then found theirs....although every picture they had was conveniently cropped to NOT show the problem. Finally they agreed to make good and fabricate a new (correct sized) skylight. I asked the Project Lead to show-up on sight to pick the proper glass shade...he did not show...EVER! In fact he lied and said he already was there!! Then the installers came and did a half-assed install....leaving the site with ZERO communication. Again this shows the type of company and personal you're dealing with. HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND LIGHTEN UP SKYLIGHT!!!! read more

One of the coolest features of my house was a Kalwall skylight 5' wide and over 120' long. However, we had abused it, and it had become discolored and, well, ugly. Lighten Up Skylight removed, refurbished and reinstalled all of the panels. The result? Gorgeous! Please be cautious about doing business with them. They don't keep their promise. At the beginning Jack was very nice, sending me skylight samples, doing very detailed proposals. But I have to give 1 star for below reasons: 1) made appointment and never show up twice. First time I waited two hours at home and kept calling the owner but no one reply. Very rude. Second time, when I took 1 hr driving back and Jack called me their guy couldn't come. Bad communications. 2) don't make a good schedule on business. The owner should have a planning for their staffs. However, finally Jack told me they are not going to do it because they are too busy. I am very disappointed, everybody is busy but if you promise to do something you should make good schedule. read more

I had a skylight installed in my living room by Lighten Up back in 2004. I have nothing but praise for these guys. The consultation and recommendations they provided were right on, they didn't upsell me on anything, and the job was done super-fast and clean. A few months later, I noticed a little puckering where the drywall screws were drilled in the new shaft, and called them up. They sent a guy out to patch and repaint those spots right away, at no additional charge, explaining that this sometimes happens as things settle in. This, on top of the fact that their overall price was excellent to begin with. They're just a classy organization. Lastly: The skylight has performed flawlessly for 7 years now, with not a drop of rain ever seen in the house. I realize I must sound like a shill...I assure you, I'm not. But I just saw their ad in a local circular, and was glad to see they're still going strong. I only saw a couple of yelp reviews, so I thought I'd add mine. read more
