Brothers Travis and Erik take to the stage with feats of danger, like sword-swallowing, fire eating, laying on a bed of nails, and juggling flaming machetes. The third member of this group, Travis's "Pickled Wife," Susan, also eats fire and is part of a bullwhip routine. Not only do the Pickled Brothers put themselves in harm's way for their Cincinnati audience, but they've garnered a national following. The group has appeared on Animal Planet, The Tonight Show, CMT, MTV, and Guinness World Records. And yes, they currently hold three world records: 1.) Travis holds the record for stuffing the most Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches into a mouth at once. (Eleven of the insects filled his mouth, if you were curious.) 2.) Erik is the youngest person to juggle upside down for 5 minutes 3.) Travis hit the most targets with a bullwhip while swallowing a sword. Sword-swallowing and using a bullwhip at the same time? How are you not at a show yet?!? You can find the Pickled Brothers Sideshow performing at various events around the city. They are also available for hire for private shows.

The younger one could juggle like crazy! Swords, pins, hatchets, whatever! He could juggle it. I liked the audience interaction as well, they were very in tune to their audience. I didn't know these guys were so renowned, I can see how though. Great act!

Luckily, we brought along our 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles from Cincinnati and this place was right down the road. Despite growing up 30 minutes away, neither of us had ever heard of this place. Seems like we must have missed out on a school field trip opportunity for sure. The grounds are really cool, we did not go into the main house (COVID-19), but looked in all the open buildings. A really cool step back in time. We did the hiking trail, up past the wine house to the cemetery, very cool- yet straight uphill. The trail itself has recently been marked again so there were plently of markers to follow but it's still pretty rough. We had to climb over large tree trunks a few times and part of the trail is basically straight uphill. The walk is a loop and took about an hour, but we were moving quickly trying to beat the sunset. The best part, we only saw two other people the entire time we were here. A great place to escape the hustle and bustle, yet close to Florence and Rabbit Hash.

Completed in 1842, the house is open for tours from April through December. Adults are $5, seniors $3, and students $2. The house contains an enormous amount of family literature, over 90,000 pages of letters, journals, and business records which offer an intimate portrayal of the Dinsmore family life. On the thirty acre grounds, hiking trails allow visitors to enjoy pristine Kentucky backwoods. Educational outreach is an important part of the mission of Dinsmore Homestead. Community classes include school programs, such as "Children's Live 150 Years Ago" and "Environmental Practices Past and Present," and adult programs like "Mountain Dulcimer Making" and "Heirloom Plant Workshop." The most enjoyable time to visit Dinsmore Homestead has to be during the Annual Harvest Festival, held at the end of September. Experts in period costumes give tours of the home and lands, bluegrass musicians entertain the crowd, while country cooks serve tasty country ham sandwiches. A must-see event for history buffs and those who cherish a more simple time.
