This is the place we bought our Track lighting a few years back , was never really pleased with it…read more(very very expensive for basic track lights with we found later specialized bulbs), but I installed it and it works. Then I had three of these expensive bulbs that no other store in Victoria or online carries, go within a few weeks of each other. So I head back to Pine Lighting, two guys at the counter, 1 greeted me as I came in, and he was very friendly and helpful, the other guy sat at the counter, pretending to be on the computer but had his phone leaned against the computer screen while he was watching some game, tried to make some small talk with him, but guess whatever he was watching was more important that maintaining and customer relations.. $45 for three bulbs, and left really feeling as though my business was undervalued...can see why this place is devoid of customers. Next time any of the bulbs blow on these tracks, they are going to be removed and upgraded with something from a local business that has better customer service.

The man that served me seemed to be in a rush to serve someone else that had just come in. I felt that I was not classy enough and that my request was to minimal to be of any importance. I had told this salesman that I had two pendant lights I was changing out... he kept insisting that there was not much light.. and I said..yes...there is.... but he was not acknowledging what I had said. I felt that the store is snobby...and another shop I went into said they heard this a lot about McLaren's.. Doreen.

We purchased our lighting fixtures from McLaren Lighting for $3,200 when renovating our home…read more Within three or four years, 18 out of 24 ceramic sockets in most of these expensive halogen fixtures burned out. When I went back to McLaren to ask what could be done, they told me it was a common problem but the sockets could not be repaired or replaced. I was told that because the manufacturer's warranty had run out, McLaren would do nothing for us. I understand that most retailers would take the same approach. However, McLaren charges a premium price that is up to ten times higher than purchasing the equivalent product online or at a big box retailer. We decided to patronize McLaren despite the extra cost because we wanted to support a local business and to have support if there was a problem. With respect to the latter, we were clearly very mistaken. Be advised that, despite the premium prices they charge, McLaren will not stand behind their product beyond the manufacturer's warranty. Furthermore, they obviously do not invest sufficient effort, if any, to ascertain the quality of their product before recommending it to their customers. In other words, there is no value added over buying online, which is where we will be purchasing the replacements for the defective junk that McLaren sold us. The one positive thing I can say about McLaren Lighting is that their staff were very polite when dealing with me and my concerns.

Maybe that's normally ok but to harass and all these weird correspondence while I'm out with extended family was very disturbing and over a measly $150. This was intrusive, pushy, rude and of poor business ethics. I do not recommended this guy.

I called and Josh answered made an suggested time of arrival and promised to call me to keep me apprised. He did. He called a couple of times to give later ETAs as he was on a job that was going longer. I was in trades too and am aware that jobs can get complicated. What I really liked was that he called and kept his word. When he arrived he was friendly, open and a pleasure to work with. He fixed my problem which ran on longer than we thought, charged a fair price, cleaned up after himself and said thanks for the work. Paying him was simple. The job was done very well. I have built over 10 businesses and homes from the ground up and never have I come across a more incompetent person. Russel could not keep employees and the ones he did send were either severely compromised due to injuries or too hung over ( one fellow even admitted he was feeling sick from his night out at the pub) to work. One employee just walked off the job after screwing up one of the main lighting systems leaving wires dangling and holes in the wall. It took over a month for this issue to be resolved and held up our other contractors by 6 weeks. We are now left with flashing lights that cannot be turned off and keep us awake at all hours of the night. We now have an open case with the review board who is coming to inspect whether we are at risk . My advice find another contractor. It is not worth your aggravation
