We toured extensively and even spend the night with our friends that live here. Didn't work out. It's because of what happened with our friends about 2 weeks later, won't be too specific so as not to get any individuals who work for this building or our friends, in trouble. It was a huge melodrama mainly around money, which I tried to help resolve, and directly due to that, we ended up not moving in here. I don't want to get accused of defamation or get into an argument like some of the other people who wrote bad reviews did, but I will say that the good reviews don't seem very legitimate. It's still an absolutely beautiful place which is white made it to our top 5 but I do have issues with the company and the fees they charge. I'd have at least given 3 stars for the amazing luxuriousness here but knowing that hostile responses can be easily forthcoming from this company, I'll pre-empt that by taking off another star. Shady.

This past week, the manager called me for working out in my apartment at noon on a Friday. He told me that any excessive noise is warranted of a call (I was placing my weights on the floor between lifting sets- no jumping, no throwing, etc) Since the gym has been closed since March, the solution offered to me was to carry all my equipment OUTSIDE IN THE TEXAS SUMMER and get my workout in outside. I've had a police officer to show up at my door because of music or my tv. If you know me, you know I'm no afeel targeted and harassed. It's honestly a shame since these people will drive away other tenants. You've got lots of options in Houston- pick elsewhere. Our neighbors have since moved out, however I still wouldn't recommend living here. We lose water, power or wifi at least once a month related to a "block outage." The elevators go down often. Aside from location, I can't see a reason to pick here over many other locations.

My $600 bike was stolen--while locked--from the bike rack inside a locked parking garage that supposedly has 24-hour security. I've asked multiple times for the security footage and have been completely ignored. They won't show it to me and they've done nothing to make it right. Instead, they spent thousands of dollars installing a cage around the bike racks after my bike was stolen, clearly acknowledging there's a problem--but they've never offered to compensate me or even acknowledge that my bike being stolen matters. On top of that, my unit used to be the show unit, so random people constantly steal my assigned parking spot. I've been understanding and haven't towed anyone, but when I park in a different spot that doesn't block anyone, they threaten to ticket me. Meanwhile, I've had five Amazon packages stolen, and after six months I still don't have access to an Amazon locker. It seems like they only enforce rules when it's convenient for them, not when it comes to actually protecting residents or their property. If I'm paying premium rent, I expect more than silence and inaction when my things are stolen inside what's supposed to be a secure facility. I didn't move here to worry about everything I own getting stolen while management shrugs.

Tires and other parts are also stolen off of vehicles in the parking garage. There is one security person, and there have been 3-4 different ones, and they all just spend the night on their cell phones, not paying attention to anything going on! Many of these thefts could've been prevented if they were doing their job! The building always stinks of marijuana, cigarette smoke, garbage, dog urine and excrement!! The cleaning staff just spray very potent fragrances around the hallways and elevators that sting your nose and eyes just to give the "appearance" that it smells clean when it's really not! I've caught them many times just spraying aerosol crap into the air! On top of that, many complaints are not taken seriously or dealt with. They tell you they handled an issue or spoke to another tenant about something when they never actually did. The building is old and the walls, floors and ceilings are thin and not insulated, so you hear every noise from the tenants on either side of you or above or below, especially washing machines and dryers that are ancient, along with other outdated filthy appliances. I had to buy my own showerhead because they had a cheap plastic piece of crap showerhead that water just trickled out of. The dishwasher is so old and so loud that you have to turn the volume up to the highest it can go on your TV or music in order to hear it or turn it on when you know you're going to be out for an hour or so so you don't have to listen to it. No matter where you live in the building, you can also hear vehicles going in and out of the parking garage at all hours of the day and night. Outside on the grounds of the apartment, there is garbage everywhere! I've never seen so much litter in my life, not even in New York City! There are also many homeless people living just around the corner under the highway (I-10). Some of them are harmless, but others are violent and carry knives and try to approach you if you're walking ,even with other people around! Not safe! High crime!! Filthy!!! Noisy!!!! Renting here was the biggest mistake of my life! Don't you make the same mistake!!!

Afton Gardens are located in a very upscale, residential neighborhood, and safety is never a factor. The apartments are gated, and even though your car is not in a gated area, safety is never an issue. Being a woman living alone, this is an extremely important factor for me. I come to Houston from Ohio every winter for a couple of months. I think Afton Gardens is absolutely the best deal in town! I wouldn't consider staying anyplace else while visiting the Houston area. So, if you are looking for short term, furnished housing in Houston, you have come to the right place in choosing Afton Gardens.

I was looking at over $13,400 just to get out of a lease and they wanted most the money right away. Super unrealistic while in escrow for my house. Now I've been stuck with a mortgage and apartment payment.
