Working with the psychologists at Deep Eddy has helped me become happy and confident in who I am…read more For the last 7 months, I've been seeing Dr. Charlotte Howard for individual and Dr. Jev Sikes for group therapy. I'd never heard of group therapy outside of a rehab setting, but the combination of individual attention and working with others in a group has made it easier for me to recognize how my own reactions are received in others. Going to Deep Eddy feels so indulgent because I am taking the time solely for working on myself. However, the time I spend here has improved my outlook, my self image, my attitude, and every single relationship in my life. I highly recommend Charlotte or Jev (or anyone they recommend) to those who are ready to spend time and attention on themselves.

I reached out to Deep Eddy to schedule a appointment with a PA or NP of psychiatry for medication…read moremanagement because I was finishing up a 12 week program at Meadows outpatient Center. I really only needed them to manage 4 medications (lithium, Quetiapine, lamotrigine and propranolol) no controlled substances. The dosages were already figured out. All the work had already been done for them. I also listed a bunch of other PRNs that I had tried while in treatment that i wasn't currently taking. Again no controlled substances, they were trazadone, gabapentin, hydroxyzine. I've been a RN for over 12 years, I was the supervisor on the first acute care floor in central tx to take on covid. The first wave really did a number on me that caused a lot of my PTSD. Anyway, what im trying to say is I tell people when they haven't been honest with me, to avoid being resentful toward them. When I tried to set up this appointment to see a PA for medication management I was denied because I was too "high acuity." What happened before that was me giving Christopher Keener some honest feedback on his response time. They wouldn't confirm the appointment until they had a credit card on file. Before I could put my husband's credit card on file I had to fill out a release of information form. Which made me feel like a criminal that had to prove my innocence. Credit card information has nothing to do with HIPAA. I have never heard or been asked to do this before. I was told I would be called as soon as it was in. I did it right away, waited, emailed to see if he received it, waited a little longer, tried to access my portal to enter the card but it hadn't been set up, I called back got someone different they said they sent him a message and he would be calling back in 20mins, it never happened that day. I wanted to get it done because I was finishing up treatment the next day and wouldn't have my phone on me. They would only hold the spot for 24hrs and i was worried I'd loose it. No attempt was made to reach out to me for clarification, no doc to doc was requested. Just a refusal. The corespondance is copied and pasted below. Notice the times. I gave him some honest feedback about response time at 11:46 and the refusal was sent at 11:52. I think somebody(Christopher Keener) may have got in their feelings and did this passive aggressive lash out. I'm really surprised that a therapist(Christopher keener) could have such thin skin. I love his its not you its me response. "Please know this isn't a reflection on you in any way; it's simply about making sure you receive the support that's best suited to your situation." After all of that, they called to say the case required more diagnostic interview time than their insurance model allows. That's a screening decision that should have been made at intake, not six weeks in. Then they will decline to change the intake paperwork to reflect the actual test you want, even if you've already paid the $50 fee upfront. I tried contacting the Office Manager about this very simple mistake, and that person didn't respond whatsoever. So now, instead of correcting their mistake and gaining a new client, they're just going to lose my business instead. Unfortunately, this was my first choice because of the business owner's responses to the Yelp reviews, but it's now the last place I'd consider because of the office's apparent policies to not allow scheduling for the testing the client specifies they want and then not respond at all when asked about it. My advice to the business owner is to talk to your staff about this experience. Learn where the office policy is getting it wrong, review with the staff how they could have recovered this, and make the necessary changes accordingly.

Review of services of Staci Carlton, LPC Intern Supervised…read moreBy Katherine Guenther, LPC-S My experience as a client of Staci Carlton has been nothing short of remarkable. I mean remarkable in the sense that only 13 months ago, as a result of my high risk behavior and low self-worth, I was more terminal in my disease than I've ever been In my entire life: a true rock bottom, and today I feel as though my life has true direction for the first time in my whole adult life. I'm half way through college, gainfully employed, and abstaining from my addictive behavior in an honest and meaningful program of recovery. Staci did not always know this version of me, and neither did my friends. When I began therapy in the beginning of May 2015 I had an attitude of resignation towards my perceived destitution as a chemical-dependent weakling who was afraid of life. I had done plenty of therapy in my many past failed attempts at recovery and was unimpressed and even, at times, resentful. I was not entirely open to the idea of seeing a counselor, however the circumstances under which I met Staci mandated our first encounters. Staci's most qualifying attribute is that her life experience doesn't yield that out-of-touch, sterile personality that so many of us chronic addiction patients are jaded of. This is most useful to me because her "street" accreditation matches her level of brilliance and professionalism in such a way as to not make me feel insulted when identifying with my experiences. (In the past I have actually had a counselor equate my compulsion for IV drug use to her addiction to flavored lipstick.) My turning over of a new leaf began most certainly as a result of Staci's counseling style which I would describe as bold yet compassionate. On one afternoon she challenged me to "try a new drug called sobriety..." ...to try life in its vivacious and raw form, to stop cowering in the cradle of chemicals as life was passing me by. When I entered the care of that facility I was in a band that had a sizeable tour coming up. Part of my rising to her challenge, I knew, would be to not go and to stay where I had proper medical care and good influences. While this would be a pivotal moment for me, it was detrimental to my sense of identity. I'll note that she does this intuitive, ninja like, thing where she is entirely present with me in conversation while at the same time examining the nuances of my demeanor as if quietly looking on from the other side of the room. I first time I noticed this I immediately wanted to know how sick my disease made me seem, but the perils of introspection are so that self-awareness seems to shy away at the presence of hubris. Shedding that prideful identity took some of the hardest work in introspection that I could imagine and I was grateful to have Staci as a role model. Eventually I returned to NA and began my journey in humility, learning how to do life sober and honestly. For the first time in my entire life another human being had proven effective in making me want to change myself on a fundamental level. Moreover, I can't close without first mentioning Staci's capacity for kindness. Her logic is one of individualistic ideals, putting one's humanity before any label or preconception. Before she started at the Live Oaks counseling center, she was still managing a caseload at the facility where I met her and I would have to wait in the waiting room with other clients of hers just to chat for a bit. This was unusual mostly because every other counselor there literally had to hide around corners in order to sneak attack their clients and get them to participate in the treatment protocol. Meanwhile, Staci's desk would be crowded with food and orchids from other addicts just like me who were fantastically grateful to her for more reasons than I could ever begin to list here. When I first started seeing her at Live Oak Counseling I was not employed and so she allowed me to see her at a drastically reduced, "sliding scale" rate. If there were only one thing that I could say about her attitude toward her cause it would be that she is passionate, and unwavering so. I am a firm believer that in the end, when all is said and done, what will matter most is that you were kind. This is Staci, and this is why what she does has a real and measurable effect on the lives she touches. Without a doubt, it is this ever present display of good nature that qualifies Staci Carlton to coach me in this new and strange trip they call sobriety, and I hope we have plenty more years to kick it. As for the Live Oaks facility its self, the rooms are beautifully furnished and the staff is polite and helpful. The atmosphere is conducive to my goals in recovery which is refreshing considering the other places I have been in.
