I've been here before, strictly as a SPECTATOR, watching my friend Michelle get her Tribal Dragon on the small of her back... But something catastrophic happened to me this pass Christmas Eve... As I spent the evening in a cold hospital sitting next to my grandmother's hospital bed. Nervously listening to the beeps and watching the peaks and drops of the zig-zag line running across the monitor... I sat there as I watched my grandma take her last breath. After a few days of weeping, mourning, and preparing for her funeral... my girl cousins and I had the crazy idea of remembering our grandmother in a PERMANENT way. So we end up at Lifestyles... (my cousins are from out of town, so it was my call) I could have taken them to any of the other hole-in-the-wall tat shops, we must have passed 5 along the way. But there was something I liked about this place. This spot is clean and safe, but still has that kick back feel. The artists there are great! (The one who did my friend's tat also worked on The Game's) They are really friendly, they treat you like they've known you for years. "Sup, Homie!?!?!" In my case, my artist, Flaco, was funny, comforting, understanding, and very VERY PATIENT. Imagine THREE crazy, loud, and overly emotional girls...We came storming in there before they were even officially open, and he didn't turn us away. We explained that we wanted the same EXACT tat in the same EXACT place. We told him that our grandmother's favorite flower was the ROSE and her favorite color was PINK. He took time helping us find the PERFECT PINK ROSE. To make this (LONG) story short... Flaco said he'd never forget me... I guess it has to do with the fact that I SCREAMED my A$$ off for 20 minutes straight, at the top of my lungs, digging my nails into my cousin's arms, tears streaming down my face from PURE AGONY... The guys that work out at the shop are friendly, the shop is clean and sterile. Most importantly the guys here are really good tattoo artists. I recently got some work done (in progress) by Klown. This guy is a phenomenal artist and just a down to earth guy. For anyone interested in getting some serious black and grey work done, don't sleep on this artist. His portrait work is very high quality and he puts a lot of effort and care into his work. I'll upload a picture of the tat I got after the first session so you can judge for yourself. I think for work of this caliber you'd pay much more in a city like Hollywood or Venice for instance so do yourself a favor and make a trip out there or search the net to see for yourself. This review is WAY overdue!! I consider myself somewhat of a tattoo enthusiast. I have 13 tattoos and I've been getting tatted since I was 16 years old. I was brought to Lifestyle by my previous custodian who worked for me. I had told him that I wanted to get a back piece and I needed a GREAT tattoo artist to do it for me. I wanted someone who knows what they're doing! We went to see Klown and I described to Klown what I wanted and he asked me to have a seat and let him see what he could come up with. About 20 minutes later he presented me with a drawing (no tracing of anything!! Hell I didn't even look in a book!) and I was floored!! He had pretty much nailed what my vision was. Klown is an awesome artist hands down. I see why he has so many awards and recognitions, he knows his shit!! My piece has not been completed as I have not had time to get back to the shop but my goal is to go back real soon and get a session in! read more
