We first visited this spot a few years ago when we packed up our car and drove from California to DC for a new job opportunity. This great little spot was one of the final stops before making the final 2 hour stretch to DC. Recently, I came back with my family for a weekend getaway at nearby Omni Bedford Springs. The place has expanded and now has an adjoining space with ice cream, free wine samples and other items for purchase. They also host what sounds like great themed meals and events. The original shop is full of Italian food products including regular and gluten free, all organic pasta. There is also a wide variety of sauces, olive oils and vinegars. My partner couldn't help himself and got a softball-sized ball of Provolone cheese. We'd definitely come back! read more

We have been here before and it was good, however, this past weekend it was really bad. Charcuterie boards were acceptable, the next course was pasta which had no flavor at all. The other part of the course was a dumpling from prosciutto. It was a unique taste and some liked it and some didn't. Main course was Rockfish that was dry, and tasteless. No sauce to cover the bland taste. Other choice was lamb which was overcooked, chewy and tasteless. Dessert was a sweet bread dunked in espresso. That was about all we ate. If you go here, ask for the menu first. Either of these choices, I would skip to go somewhere else! It was way overpriced for the quality! read more

This store has quality merchandise from Italy. You can find interesting jams, toppings, spreads, pasta, olive oils and chocolates. There is also beautiful pottery. The stores offers classes taught by the artist who makes the pieces. There are also cheeses, meats, beverages (teas, water) and other food items. It reminds me of Dean and Delucca. Bedford is a charming town. Most of the merchants have glass windows with creative displays. If you visit during the holidays, everyone has cute holiday decorations. I have to be honest - this wasn't for me. Came here for my birthday dinner - and I am quite a big fan of Italian. Maybe not the same type offered here. First - there's no liquor - it's BYOB. Which isn't fun when I like having a mixed drink before dinner. Second - there are no soft drinks. So, no liquor license, no soda. Man that's rough. There's a pre-determined menu - which I don't know I guess I understand, but when either of the options doesn't have red gravy and standard Italian fare - I don't know. Biggest issue I had was we spent 3 hours here - with the deliberate plating and spacing of the courses. It wouldn't have been so bad if the portions were bigger. Charcuterie board was good - I liked the salad and the different cheeses. The first course was a pasta but the the portions were very small - found myself getting more and more hungry. The main course I chose was the beef and mixed salad greens. Taste was good but again I found myself even more hungry afterwards. The dessert was an orange cake - would have been nice to have another option. I don't know - just not for me. Place is nice, staff and owners are nice but this was a very exhausting experience. There are two types of homemade soup daily and also a lot of paninis, power bowls, etc. It's a great place for a gourmet-type lunch. There's a good bit of seating inside. Came here for the set 4 course dinner with my friend. The place is cute and cozy. First course was a charcuterie board with standard meats, cheeses, dried mango, and these dried cheerio thingies. This is when things start to go left. My friend specifically asked if any of the menu items had nuts when the reservation was made and was assured no nuts, yet I'm staring at a fennel salad with shaved almonds on the board. We asked the waitress if a new one can be made without almonds and she said no. Everything was pre made already and nothing could be done, no concessions offered. Next up was a mushroom risotto which was super salty and I was unable to finish it. Main dish was a monkfish drowned in red sauce with a side salad that was also way over salted and not edible. Dessert was a chocolate log. It was getting late and the servers rushed thru dessert and my friend wasn't offered any espresso. None of our silverware was changed out between courses. At the conclusion of the meal, we were told to go to the cashier to check out. You can imagine the long line with everyone trying to pay at once. I think this place has good intentions, the chef came out to check in with each table but unfortunately it just doesn't live up to what it aspires to be, both service and food. Low key and delicious, this was a perfect stop on our journey east. We lunched n panini's. The Northern Italian, with walnut paste was first rate. Visit the shop nest door for ingredients imported from Italy. Then another door down for an amazing desert treat!! Having dinner at LIFeSTYLE is like having dinner at your grandmother's house on a Sunday afternoon. There were 17 people seated at a long table situated in the middle of the store. Pastas, cheeses, salts, oils and many other items surrounded us as we shared an incredible dinner. The whole idea here is for you to reserve your spot at the table for a Prix Fixe dinner ($55 per person) with a menu that is a secret until you sit down. You can call ahead and they will suggest a wine that will pair with the entrée. They have a strict limit on the amount of wine you can bring to dinner - 1 bottle per person and no corkage fee. Our meal started with a small appetizer plate for each person with 5 different items that were delicious - I remember the artichoke, prosciutto with cheese, roasted pepper on toast with olives and an Italian ham with cheese. Second Course - We were offered three choices, Truffle Taglioni, Fusilli with Gorgonzola Cheese and Mascarpone with Asparagus and Smoked Salt. I chose the Taglioni and Carol had the Fusilli - both were excellent. Third Course - Our entrée consisted of a Beef Tenderloin with Aged Balsamic Vinegar accompanied by a small salad with white balsamic vinegar. This slice of beef was superb and melted in your mouth. Fourth course - This consisted of a terrific cheese plate that everyone enjoyed. Again, each diner had his or her own plate. Fifth Course - Vanilla Bean Gelato drizzled with Sicilian EVOO and topped with a sprinkling of Black Sea Salt. Dessert was accompanied by excellent coffee, espresso or tea. The owners are passionate about their shop and especially, their food. Service throughout our dinner was excellent and every item was named and explained. This is definitely an experience I would like to enjoy again in the future. Reservations are definitely required. read more

For a tiny place, it had an extensive menu, which also catered very well to an array of food sensitivities. If you are looking for dairy free options, you cant beat this place. Overall, we enjoyed our experience here. The owners and staff were all friendly and attentive. Most, if not all of their ingredients are imported from the owners' motherland in Italy. Everything was so fresh. They have one seating with a 4 course prix fixe menu and were able to accommodate my wife who does not eat meat. Our daughter ate dinner before we got there so she didn't eat but offered her complimentary bread and drink. It's BYOB without a corking fee. To start out, they served us a delicious spread on a charcuterie board complete with olives, fig spread, cheeses, and cured meats. There was a lot there for 2 people. I felt bad not eating it all. For the second course they served a cacio de pepe which is basically an Italian version of Mac n cheese with black pepper, which was tasty. They also served us a shrimp and calamari risotto. The main entree was orange glazed halibut with fresh greens, both of which were nice and light. The light, mold fish was a nice follow up to the pasta course which was a bit heavier. For dessert, we had an incredible coffee gelato that was killer, served with a side of a shot of espresso. Nice touch. The owners also sell all of their imported specialty foods from Italy, all of which appeared to be reasonable priced. While this is an odd location for specialty Italian foods, I'm happy to see they are doing well. read more

We attended the 4 course set menu meal. The price was 70 dollars per person. We were expecting it to be a pleasant evening with some great food. The first course was a Charcuterie board, and it was fine. The second and third courses were honestly not good. Pasta that was dry with no sauce or oil and chicken that was dry and chewy. We were given some dry bread in between courses with no butter or anything. The dessert was good. The atmosphere was nice, and the service was fine. This was a really unbelievable experience. We did the Trattoria, 4 course dinner and were blown away that something like this existed in Bedford Springs. I've seen a few people comment that if people liked this spot then they haven't had proper a proper prefixe dinner experience. I couldn't disagree more. This is NOT intended to be a fine dining, five course french/new american dinner. And, in many ways, it exceeded those. This is straightforward, authentic and approachable northen Italian food. Our first course was a charcuterie plate. A delightful spread with cheese, bread and meats. The second, a pasta with olives cooked perfectly al dente. I should mention that the chef offers two different options for the pasta and dessert course. The main was a beef tenderloin that was out of this world, with some refreshing greens on the side. For dessert, we had creamy vanilla gelato with sea salt and honey. Again, delicious. For anyone visiting Bedford Springs, I recommend skipping the crystal room. However, beware, reservations go quick and are limited and only Friday and Saturday evenings with one 7:30 seating. I should also mention that it is BYOB. Went to try since it was recommended by a friend. Honestly, I went with not much expectation since I had many decent Italian in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and also in Rome. Last night they served unimpressive primi. Some funny lasagna which is just so so and black rice with shrimp. The secondi was ok; salmon and ribs were ok. The only two things I liked was the salami and the ice cream desert. I rated the food is acceptable but not impressive. read more

Went for the Trattoria and it was the best meal my wife and I have ever experienced at a restaurant. My wife got the fish (I'd love fish if it always tasted that good) and I got the chicken (cooked perfect and the sundried tomatoes were remarkable). The staff was super friendly. This was literally the weirdest dining experience I have ever had to pay for. We had an impromptu stay at the Bedford Springs Resort. We made reservations at the resort out of convenience, but they weren't until 7:45..so we looked around for other options on yelp. My boyfriend came across LifeStyle and we thought it would be right up our alley, we love not having to order and getting whatever brought to us. (See little fish or ambra reviews). We were unable to get a reservation on open table, and the reviews are seriously amazing on yelp..so we figured, let's call. They put us on a waiting list, we didn't have high hopes and we had decent back up reservations anyway. We got a call around 6 that someone has canceled and there is now room for 2 more. We were excited! We asked them what wine would be best (it's byob, and it boasts they will give you wine recommendations. They said "any bold red". OK, not quite a recommendation but we go with it. So we head to the liquor store, grab some wine and head over for the 7:30 seating. It's kind of a mess when you arrive, people are standing all around either waiting for their party or unsure of what to do. We were told to sit in the middle of a very long table across from each other...we did as was told and then a wine key was passed around the table to whoever wanted to use it. After everyone was seated, the owner comes out and does a little presentation on how "this is a trattoria, family, casual, blah blah blah. Shortly after that a waitress brings out an amuse bouche (sort of like a cheese/meat tray but weirdly slapped together)? She literally brings out the plates 2 at a time..you can imagine this ends up taking a VERY LONG TIME. We had PLENTY of time to finish up this course...when finally the owner emerges and announces there is an option for the 2nd course! Risotto with apples or pasta carbonera. We went with one of each, I was hoping for the pasta. Then after waiting for everyone to order which one they wanted...he announces that the risotto takes 15-16 minutes to prepare. So there we are..left to sit around for 15 minutes making small talk even though we don't want to. Why didn't you take everyone's order when you passed out the cheese plates? The carbonera was insanely salty..impossible to finish (however pasta was cooked perfectly). The risotto was crunchy (Al dente does not describe)..it was bland and blah..I had one bite. Next thing we know..its 9PM..main courses haven't even been passed about. Again the one waitress brings them out 2 at a time. Pork Shanks with a baby side salad. I'm noticing there is a wide variety in portion, some plates have two little pieces (like my dining partners) and mine had two gigantic pieces. The pork was dry, bland and over cooked. At this point we're frustrated..there are 2 more courses (a cheese and dessert) left to happen and its 9:30. I can't even imagine how long this is going to take, then everyone has to pay all together..we just can't sit through this anymore. It took us a while to flag down a waitress and ask to pay early (why only have 1 waitress by the way!?! If multiple people need to be served at the same time...you should definitely have more servers or at least have them carry out more plates than 2 at a time). We pay the owner and leave before being served the last two courses. I will say their store is nicely decorated and it was warm on a cold night. I'm disappointed in this experience, the food and the service. I don't understand the rave reviews unless my fellow yelpers before me have never experienced a decent single seating prix fix...if you have..resist the temptation here and dine at any other reputable Bedford establishment. read more

I have lived in Italy and this place is genuinely Italian. Made me miss Milan! You are definitely going to get an Italian dining experience. A few things to take into account: You have to make a reservation and the menu is fixed. It is a communal experience so everyone is sitting at a big long table dining together. We were hesitant to make a reservation somewhere with a pre-fixe menu, because my husband is a meat lover and I am a very picky vegetarian. LifeStyle is an Italian food shop during the day and offers a unique group dining experience on Friday and Saturday evenings. They set up a long communal table for their guests, so we had the opportunity to meet many new people. There were 5 courses that included a small plate, salad, main dish, cheese plate and dessert. Everything was unique and delicious. We were offered an explanation of each traditional Italian dish as each course came out. They are byob and the entire meal is only $55 per person. Had a unique and wonderful meal here. On Saturday evenings, they transform this Italian specialty shop into a Trattoria. You must make your reservations in advance because there's only room for 30 guests. We were served our meal at a long communal table. Each dish featured fresh local produce and meat paired with specialty items from the shop. The shop owner made recommendations earlier in the day about what kind of wine to bring because LifeStyle, like many places in town, is BYOB. We met a number of interesting people and the conversation just got more spirited as the wine flowed during the course of this 2 1/2 hour 5-course meal. You get what you get, so if you're a picky eater or have dietary restrictions, this might not be for you. We made our reservation just a couple of days before the dinner, and the proprietor was able to tell me what they would be serving. And how was the food? Very good. The zucchini soup was hot, flavorful and perfectly seasoned. I will be thinking about the truffled pasta with fresh morels for weeks. It was one of the best things I ever ate. The pork was tender and perfectly paired with a salad made with fresh lemon dressing and 15-year balsamic. The cheese plate was delectable. I found the chocolate salami for dessert to be only so-so, but that may be a matter of personal taste. Espresso at the very end was perfection. But this place is as much about the experience as the food. Fun, different, stimulating AND delicious. And did I mention is was just $50 per person? We were strolling the streets of Bedford to stretch our legs on a long car trip. Saw this place and decided to get a cappuccino. Once inside we noticed the list of Italian deli meats no longer available near us when we moved homes. Yes, we were greedy enough to take their entire supply of mortadello. Food store by day, restaurant on Saturday nights. A delicious dinner is served to 22 lucky people Saturday night (and an occasional Friday night). Call for a reservation as early as possible, as it can sell out weeks in advance in busy seasons. $50 includes tip, but bring your own wine. They will call you to tell you what is being served and recommend a good pairing! Stefano is only about 3 years away from Italy, and you can tell he loves to cook. A five course dinner is served to everyone at once (and served well), all seated at one long table, and the food is delicious. Stefano also explains a bit about the food, how it is prepared, and where it comes from. The dinner will last about 2 and a half hours but time will fly by, since whoever you are seated with probably shares your interest in good food and possibly good wine. The people may be a mix of locals and from distances, staying at the Bedford Springs Hotel or other nearby places. Personally, I guess I'm cheap - I don't like paying $50 for a dinner, but in this case it is well worth it. The next time I am in Bedford I hope to go here again. It is not something to miss! Tips - Street parking is easy. (Small town pretty much closed up at night.) If you didn't bring wine on your trip, there is a liquor store a few blocks down the street, and a very nice winery store - Briar Valley Winery - right across the street which I highly recommend. Great experience- from beginning to end. This was one of the best and most unique meals I've had. I went with my boyfriend during a romantic getaway to Bedford Springs. The atmosphere was great- we got to meet people that had traveled to Bedford from all over the US. The conversation and BYOB wine was free flowing. The meal was top notch. Simple ingredients but SO fresh and delicious. First course was a charcuterie and crostini plate. Second course was a choice of two pastas. The pastas were so fresh and delicious- one of the highlights of our meal. Main course was lemon and saffron roasted chicken. I'm not one to order chicken at restaurants but man! This was one of the best chicken dishes I've ever had! After that, we had a cheese plate, dessert, and espresso.
