The staff was very friendly and the store is cute. We tried the "Steak at Lake" sandwich. To borrow a phrase... Where's the BEEF? The minuscule amount of slivered/shaved meat was disappointing to say the least. For $16 we surely expected the peppers and onion to be the accompaniment to the meat instead of a smidgen of meat with the vegetables. Didn't care the the coleslaw, an herb or spice did not agree with me. The pickle was nice. All in all, I don't think the sandwich measured up to the hype or the price. We had a pleasant lunch on the picnic table outside the store. While the Maestri Prosciutto Italiano and the Three Little Pigs | Organic Mousse Aux Cepes were positively stellar, the small cuts of cheese we grabbed from the fridge were a bust: Comte, FireFly Farms | Black & Blue, and the Shepherds Manor Creamery | Herb Tomae. I'm hopeful that we can do tastings sometime soon, since Firefly has some great cheeses to offer (and some crappy ones that I'd prefer to avoid). read more

Handmade cheeses from Mountain Maryland. I've driven right by this unique storefront many times always telling myself I would stop "next time". Finally I turned the car around and went back to check it out. I had no expectations so I was delighted when the service attendant asked if I wanted to taste some samples. He expertly explained what I was having (from the mildest to the strongest) and explained how they were made and aged. Their specialty is goat cheese, which I like anyway, but the flavors and textures are unlike any I've had before. In addition to their own cheese made on site, they offer a wide variety of cheeses from other producers and from all over the world. Highly recommend. read more

Eating local is vital to any community and this is the perfect place start (pertaining to cheese made from their goats, but there's lots of prime choices). They also carry many other "local" products (WV/MD/PA) to accompany your cheese plate. They also hold informative wine tastings and also carry delicious ports to pair with their blue cheeses. We absolutely love FireFly Farms market and come every year on our family vacation to Deep Creek Lake. We love sampling all of the cheeses and by a bunch of different kinds for our charcuterie board. The staff is always super friendly. The new building is beautiful and offer many selections of foods and drinks. We got 5 kinds of cheese (our favorite I always the porter cheddar), 2 baguettes, a few drinks, and some interesting sides like pickled carrots. Accident, when did you get so classy?! One of the coolest little cheese shops I've ever been in. We went on a Saturday and the (handsome) owner greeted us, made conversation, showed us their cheese-making section, and then led us to the counter where we had an amazing tasting of a variety of cheeses. We knew we wanted to get about six cheeses with a range of tastes and wow, we were not let down as far as selection. The cheesemonger was very knowledgable, and offered us generous tastes of many cheeses. We chose six, did a tasting that night, and I can tell you which ones were outstanding... 1) The Bella Vita Espresso. WOW, there were 7 people participating in our at-home tasting that evening and at the end we voted on our favorite. Bella Vita Espresso took the cake. It's a sharp, hard cheese, rubbed with ground espresso. A perfect cheese to serve with dessert or at brunch. 2) The Allegheny Chèvre. Very well done. Light, creamy, perfect on a water cracker with a little bit of honey. I saw this as an option as a burger topper at Moonshadow Cafe the following night and wanted to order the burger just so I could experience this cheese again. 3) Cabra La Mancha. On the softer side, which isn't always my preference, but this was terrific. Creamy and clean, the rind was the most flavorful part. I bought a wine to pair it with (it might have been a tad overpriced but was good), and also couldn't resist and bought one of their beautiful slate cheese boards from Brooklyn Slate. The gift selection was a nice feature. Firefly Farms is worth the drive from DCL if you're looking for a fun afternoon activity, and a chance to try Maryland cheeses. I was thoroughly impressed and the visit was the highlight of my weekend! read more

After several years of traveling to DCL from Northern VA for vacation, we looked into something fun to do other than boating on the lake, which we love! This was the most perfect outing for the girls, for wine lovers or cheese lovers or anyone who wants to experience a lovely, relaxing afternoon! Emily made our group feel so special! She is very knowledgeable in both cheeses and wines to pair and was extremely attentive to our group! We enjoyed every minute of the pairing experience and loved shopping the fresh cheeses, meats and vegetables that were served along with our wines after the tasting! The shop is just perfect!!!! It is wonderful to know that our local stores, Wegmans and Whole Foods, carry FireFly Farms' cheeses so we can always have them stocked in our fridge. Came back here for a second year in a row. They always have amazing cheeses and are extremely nice at explaining them and giving samples to try. They have a variety of cheeses that are made on the premises as well. If you come in on a day when the owners are there, you can get a great lesson in how each of their cheeses are made. Wow this place is amazing! The cheese was some of the most delicious creamy cheese I've ever had! It is pricey, around $20-26 per lb for most of the cheeses. They have very knowledgeable and friendly staff who will help you choose delicious cheese. They let you take a sampler plate outside to try before you buy. The Gouda was my favorite!! If your not really into cheese you may be suprised at one of the prices. But oh the favors... The textures... I was in cheese heaven. I could have bought them all. But I did now want to have an argument with the wife over my cheese addiction. So I (we) settled on two. Then onto the wine tasting which I believe was conducted by the owner. What?! No review!! Bwahaha stealing another First Review.... My first intro to Firefly Farms was actually due to Tastings Gourmet in Annapolis. I was an instant huge fan of the Merry Goat Round. When we were wandering around like tourists in the Deep Creek Area, I saw the sign for the creamery and I made us pull over to check it out. Because of Tastings Gourmet I have tasted many local cheeses, but very rarely do I ever get to visit the creamery! So if you are into foo-foo cheese and you are in the Deep Creek this is a must see. They have wine tastings, Cheese tastings and anything else they have in the store you will most likely be able to taste it. The owners are fabulous! They put up with our crazy and entertained us through tasting all of their cheeses and wine. You also get a glimpse of the cheese room in case you are curious about how the cheeses are made. This is a must see if you think you are a Foodie...or if you just love cheese. PS. They have cheeses that are only sold here at the creamery! read more

This place seems like it could be a cool place and it sticks out in Garrett County as unique but I wasn't impressed. I had one of their cheeses a few years ago when they first opened and I enjoyed it. I am not a gourmet cheese guy but it is fun to try every so often. I have been meaning to stop in and see thee shop at some point and I finally did today. I was disappointed as it is a small unfriendly shop. Maybe the lady behind the counter looked at us as non-buyers or she was extremely busy because she didn't give us the time of day. A gentleman had a small table of 4-6 people which were doing a wine and cheese pairing so I understood his business. But this lady was just behind the counter cutting some cheese. I would have liked to try 1-2 cheeses but none were available as far as I know. I walked around the store and looked at the options. The cheese is too expensive for me and I wouldn't have anywhere to store it while we drive. The associate never even gave me a cursory check and I walked on out the door. I made my stop here and my curiosity is solved. I would like to try some more of their cheese someday but it won't be high on my list. read more

During a "Girls Getaway" weekend, six of us attended the Wine & Cheese Pairing at Firefly. What a decadent, delicious evening! Pablo was wonderful at explaining the uniqueness of each cheese and why it paired well with that particular wine. The spread of antipasta and meats was more than enough and they kindly boxed up all the leftovers for us to nibble on back at our lodge that evening. It was fun sitting at the long rustic table, chatting with my girlfriends while hearing the hum of customers behind us who were stopping in to enjoy cheese and wine samples. I was upset that we missed this when entering Deep Creek, as it would have been an amazing treat to have some wine and cheese by the fire. If I lived in Accident, I would be a regular! We stopped in on a Saturday, tried wine, cheese, delicious bread and jam! Wine and cheese are two of my favorite things in this world, so of course I'll love a shop that sells both, but the people working here make it even more enjoyable becauee they're incredibly friendly, and helpful. We purchased several cheeses: black and blue, which was my absolute favorite and amazing with a glass of red wine; Irish porter, a bit too mild for my taste; merry goat round, also fairly mild, but really good; mountain top bleu, my second favorite; aged chedder, that was pretty good, despite the fact that I dont't usually love chedder. We also purchaed a baguetter, an olive loaf, and a foccacia; all were frozen and at first, I thought they might not be great, but all of them were delicious! I highly recommend this place! read more

After driving by a couple times, I decided to stop a couple years ago. The cheese is pricey, but very good. I come out once or twice a year or see them at the Morgantown Farmer's Market on Saturdays. I've always had good experiences with the staff. They're good about explaining the different cheeses and providing samples. I love the Cabra La Mancha and normally get about 1/3 pound to take home with me. I also sometimes get some Allegheny Chevre for crackers. read more
