After graduation we picked it up and headed home to celebrate our grad and when we opened the box we were all so excited and delighted to not only see the nice lettering but also that they had adorned the cake with a grad cap...what a nice touch! AND it gets even better...the taste of the cake was delicious!

That seems like important information to share with people, wouldn't you say? Especially if you expect them to pick up the product... My fiancee wanted a custom-made cake for her bridal shower. Sweet Jackie's had an impressive portfolio, the prices were reasonable, and the place was in our neighborhood, so she placed an order, 18 days before the event. Jackie was pretty good about communicating while discussing the order process. But after the order... silence. Phone calls go unanswered. What's going on with this order? Is it happening? Should we talk to someone else? Just quiet... About a week before, Fiancee finally gets Jackie on the phone. Jackie says she has the order, and it's on her schedule. She'll call a couple of days before the event, to confirm the order. Sounds great! Fiancee relaxes a bit. Two days before the event. Silence. No calls, no emails. One day before the event. Silence continues. Fiancee calls Jackie. Leaves a voicemail. Calls again a couple of hours later. Again a little later. And again. Nothing. Zero. WHAT'S THE STORY WITH THE CAKE?! 5 PM, day before the bridal shower. I say to Fiancee, "Forget it -- let's just get a cake at the bakery." We send Jackie a "last chance" email, and head off to the bakery. There, we check email from our phone, and -- wow! -- Jackie lives and she says our cake is in production... and we can pick up on the far South Side. (Me: "Where?! She's supposed to be in Rogers Park!") Fiancee calls her -- you guessed it, no answer. We figure, time to get a Plan B, and get two cakes at the bakery. (We'd find a use for them, one way or another.) At home, we look at the order forms: did we miss the new address? Err, no -- there is no address or phone number listed. (Why? Why on earth not?!) With all the web references (including this one) saying the place is in Rogers Park, we had no reason to think otherwise. Oops. We write another email (phone calls being useless), saying that the location is a surprise, and could we maybe meet her downtown. No answer. No phone call. No email. Nothing. At 6:14 AM on the day of the shower (!!!) we get an email. Jackie says she is sorry for the "misunderstanding" and that we were "not made aware" that their "main center" has been moved to the South Side. (Let's unpack this load of b.s.: we were "not made aware" and the "misunderstanding" occurred because she didn't bother to tell us. And the "main center" is a kitchen in her house. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but talk about avoiding responsibility for her own incompetence!) It went on to say that the order was cancelled because of "a possibility of a no-call/no-show." I was speechless: a "possibility"! Good thing we got those bakery cakes! Here's an irony -- our maid of honor lives 15 minutes from there. We could have easily sent her to pick up the cake. All Jackie had to do was CALL US THAT NIGHT; we would have figured it out and laughed it off. Instead, she just sent an email saying our order was cancelled. On the day of the bridal shower, without even the courtesy of a phone call. In short: you can't rely on this outfit to be either courteous or even remotely professional. Even if they charged nothing, it'd still be a ripoff. Just stay away.

A real blessing to the Chicago gluten-free food scene. Previously, I had only tried items stocked at Whole Foods. I've now tried SO many of their goodies directly from their bakery, local cafés, and retailers. No matter where I've purchased their goodies from, the items are always fresh. I've never purchased a stale item. It always amazes me that despite their large selection, they are able to maintain freshness of all of their items. It's hard to pick favorites, but some of my favorite items are the brownies, with the Cosmic Brownie being my number one. It's so rich and fudgy, and everyone I've had taste it has had the same wide-eyed reaction. It's amazing. The cookies are phenomenal. I love the standard chocolate chip cookies. Also, the oatmeal peanut chocolate chip cookies are seriously addictive and a favorite of mine. They're crispy on the edges with the perfect chew, have actual whole peanuts in the batter, and the perfect peanut butter flavor. The cookie sandwiches are one of my top choices and a must-try! The chocolate chip with peanut butter buttercream is amazing, as is the peanut butter s'mores. I also love everything lemon from here. The lemon mini loaves and the lemon poppy seed loaf slice are absolutely perfect. Some of the other items I've really enjoyed are the pecan blondie, magic bar, peanut butter bar, cupcakes, whoopie pie, cake pops, cinnamon crumb cake, Pucks of Love (which reminds me of MOD Pizza's No Name Cake, which I love), and the Earl Grey mini loaf. The cake slices of the week are always a great pick too. They always have fun and delicious combinations, and they always keep me wanting to pop in and try the latest one. I know there are two types of people: people who LOVE sugar and prefer a thick, sweet buttercream, and people who scrape off the frosting and only eat the cake. Their frosting is definitely for the sugar lovers out there--I personally love it! Don't snooze on Defloured. Give it a try--you won't be disappointed.

Nicely decorated cookies. I ordered for my niece's graduation. I was traveling from out of town so everything was done in writing. Touched down and went straight to the bakery grabbed the cookies and headed to graduation party. Opened the box only to discover they had misspelled my Niece's name. We were super bummed about it but I know things happen. The owner apologized. No offer to correct was given nor discount on a future order but I appreciated the apology.
