Indeed, I was welcomed and immediately shown to a chair before several well lit mirrors. Everything was clean and orderly despite equipment being at the ready, light sources, reflectors, etc. Their rig seems top notch, and they edit on industry standard software. Erick shot my session. First, I needed a professional headshot. He took photos with several gradients of natural light vs artificial, and had me change coats and ties twice. Behind the camera, he has the disposition of a third base line coach, but like, the cool hippie dad. He knows when when to hold you back, and just as importantly, when push you to run for home plate. He directed me to positions and engaged me in parallel conversation that brought out genuine happiness, laughter, and poised aplomb. It's extraordinarily clear in my pictures. From the latter, I have the best professional headshot of my life. The former, Tinder. It's a super fun afternoon, and good headshots make good first impressions, make higher in the stack for all sorts of applications, auditions, tons of stuff. My first experience with Allen Tsai was when he photographed my sister's wedding. My sister…read moreherself, is a photographer. The second time I heard his name was at my best friend's wedding. HER photographer had also used Allen Tsai for her wedding. I decided to take some time and followed Allen's presence on social media and the internet. Turns out he's VERY decorated and has been featured a lot in publications. His clients are worldwide, and all the photographers I respect want HIM for the THEIR weddings. If he's the professional that all the other professionals use, I knew I was never going to entertain any other photographer. The second I got engaged, I told my wedding planner we had to secure Allen. And that's what we did. THANK GOD because it takes a special photographer to handle everything an everyone that was, My Wedding. I got married in Downtown Dallas and my wedding had very "city" vibes. I didn't want to have every "conventional" wedding party shot, and so I had tasked Allen with the burden of making my wedding photos look like "something off the cover of Vanity Fair." Not typically his route for weddings, and also confined to a VERY tight timeline, somehow, Allen was able to execute my vision. More than that, every shot from the reception is PERFECT. The lighting was consistent in every shot (and let me tell you, the lights from the stage and darkness of the room was all over the place that night). He captured beautiful portraits, but also grabbed very intimate moments between myself and my husband, our friends, and our family - shots that we didn't know anyone was watching. The photos were edited and turned in record time (amazing considering he shoots digitally AND in film) and the gallery of proofs was enormous. This was so important because I've heard HORROR stories from friends whose galleries were pitifully small since the photographer didn't have very good content to return. The gallery is easy to use navigate and he even offers printing services (huge if your local pharmacy does a bad job with prints). Here is my biggest jaw-drop of the experience: Allen worked alone. My wedding had around 225 guests and you would have thought (based on the photos) that he had at least two assistants. Finally, Allen is also just awesome to work with. He's kind and dedicated to his craft, and he is so respectful and polite. He rocked my wedding and I'm so glad we hired him.

At the same time, he creates a very calm, light, and fun atmosphere that creates true, genuine moments between you and your significant other. I really encourage anyone using Allen's services to listen to his recommendations. For example, our original scheduled date was cloudy and overcast. He recommended that we wait for sun if we truly wanted to be happy with our photos. We are so grateful to have listened to him, because the results were wonderful (see attached). We chose a 45 min session at their location and found there were a lot of great options for many natural looking outdoor poses. Aubrey was great and we had a lot of fun. We couldn't be happier with the pictures we ended up picking from the large number of pictures we had to choose from. While Lupita regularly takes "big kid" pictures, like high school portraits, this was her first time working with little kiddos. I appreciated her flexibility as she adjusted her options to address parents' feedback. While it may not be the same next year (she may firm things up based on her experience this first year, if I had to guess), I felt like she took the time to personally deal with us as parents instead of giving the school canned answers or making things very limited and rigid. And I love that she provided access to all the pictures she took of our son, giving us a large set to choose from. It wasn't picking from one or two or even three poses; it was a lot. I've never had that before and I appreciated it. She does a lot of other work, too, and it all seems to be centered around people. She said some parents pay her to literally document their kids' high school experience, taking pictures of their marching band and whatever else they do during high school. Then she puts together a high school scrap book at the end. Pretty neat. She takes a lot of marching band pictures, and the ones I saw were excellent. She shoots both at day and night. And she has a lot of professional gear to take on different situations. From what I saw, high school portraits and activities are her bread and butter.
