What a waste of time. First of all we arrived there today at around 11:30 am and to find a parking spot it was a hassle. Finally someone left and we got their spot and this was about twenty minutes waiting for one. We and by we I mean my husband, myself and our 4 year old son, walked in and waited to be helped by one of the young gentlemen at the front counter. When I told him that we were looking to possibly book a party for our son in November he asked if we were members and I said no we weren't. He turned around to ask some older guy I'm guessing he was the manager and he told him that they do not do parties for non members. Now I want to know WHERE is it posted about not being able to book a party if you are not a member??? I looked on their website and nowhere under the kids birthday parties does it say for members only. Its possible that my husband and myself would have been interested in becoming members had a tour at least been offered but no we felt as though we were inconveniencing the staff by even asking such a question as a non member. Lifetime you can keep your snooty gym! Thanks for saving us money.

Swore I'd never try Crossfit but then Crossfit Harrison opened literally a 2 min walk away from me…read moreand they had a Groupon deal so my curiosity got the best of me. Classes are offered primarily in the late afternoon/evening with a couple on M & W at 6AM thrown in there to satisfy the early risers. Owner is friendly but tough in a good way - he knows the fine line between when you are struggling and need a lighter weight to do the move properly and when you are just being lazy. WoD's have been challenging but doable - the two Ive done so far have been 20 and 30 min each so between that and a warm up/cool down you get in your hour of exercise. I have never been as sore as I was after my first class and can already tell after todays class I am in for another round of soreness. I don't mind too much and I know I'm getting a good workout. People have been friendly and I felt welcome right away. There are modifications (ring rows instead of pull ups, sit ups instead of toe to bars etc) for newbies/beginners so you are always able to participate. Our WoD today had a group challenge for the last round and despite my best round my team lost and our punishment was 20 burpees for each rep we lost by - or 44 burpees for the 5 of us since we lost by 11 reps to equal 220 burpees total. Love the team atmosphere and ability to track your progress and see improvement. Now, here is where I am torn, like most Crossfit gyms is not cheap. There is definitely value in the small group training atmosphere and coach's attention though. It's $180/mo unlimited or $130/mo for 2x week classes. I could see myself doing the foundation program and getting a 10 class pass or something if they had that to go once every week or two and then just doing my own 'work in the Equinox studio when there were no classes going on.

I would highly recommend Crossfit Harrison for several reasons…read more 1) The other members come to work out hard day in and day out. This is highly motivating and is a stark contrast to other gyms in the neighborhood. 2) Will is a great trainer who balances patience and impatience very well. He will patiently take the time to correct your posture and technique when you need the help. But, if you are simply slacking he will call you out on it and you will feel like crap and try not to be a slacker ever again. 3) There is a great teamwork vibe. When I first joined the gym I knew that there was no way I would ever climb the rope, but everybody in the gym gave me pointers each time I tried. When I climbed it for the first time I felt a lot of love from the other members, even though I didn't know any of them 3 months ago 4) Crossfit Harrison is the equivalent of personal training every time you work out. I used to pay $120 an hour for personal training at equinox and now I feel the same attention every night I workout. Considering I train 5 days a week, this would have cost me thousands of dollars had I stayed at equinox. 5) Crossfit workouts are "quick". If I need to get in and out quick Will tailors my workout appropriately so that I can train for anywhere from 20 min to 1 hour. Since I work for an investment bank and have to commute to NYC every day, this is really important to me. 6) While the workouts are very challenging, they are also fun since they are never the same. Since you don't know what you are doing till you get there, it is never boring.

I give Strata a positive review because it is a very well equipped strength training facility…read more(which is exactly what I look for) and the price is an unbeatable $40/month or $45/month for 24/7 access. The owner we a early student of Charles Poloquin (google that name and be impressed) so the shining star of the facility are the amenities of the strength training areas. Pros - most plate loaded machines are top of the line Atlantis and you have strength training equipment most gyms lack, such as reverse-hyper machine, glute ham developer, pendulum squat, and more. 2 trap bars and bumper plates also make things fun. Suana is a great way to relax after a workout. Cons - the club has shifted to a automated model, so there are hardly staff present. Sign up on line or call in to join. No towel service or supplies in showers, but what can you expect for $40? People don't strength train there enough. The facility is so well geared for bodybuilding or powerlifting, yet those types do not frequent the club. I would love to see that crowd come in more for motivation when I train. Summary - this is a great facility for those on a budget and those who TRAIN with purpose. Trainers - you can bring your clients here and have access to great equipment, just contact the owner, he gives a great bargain from what I understand.

I started training with Madison two months after my third baby was born. After having 3 pregnancies…read morein 5 years, my body was NOT feeling right. I had lost a ton of muscle, added a bunch of fat, and my posture had suffered. Initially I planned to train with Madison for 6 weeks to get myself back on track, but it's now 5 months later and I still see her weekly. I can not believe the impact that slow motion strength training has had on my body. I have gotten so much of my strength back and even developed muscles that have been neglected all of my life, which has enabled me to add some cardio and vinyasa yoga. My posture has gotten significantly better despite the fact that I'm still nursing and work at a computer most of the time, thanks to the series of exercises that Madison designs for me. I've lost almost 20 pounds, and definitely converted a bunch of fat to muscle. My butt and thighs are so much tighter than they used to be (sorry if that's TMI!) All in all, it's an incredible workout in that the results are very noticeable and the time commitment is tiny. That said, you DO have to be dedicated. Madison will ask you to push yourself really, really hard. Sometimes in the middle of workouts, all I can think is "Why am I doing this???" But then I remind myself that I just need to give it my all for 30 minutes, which really isn't that much. By the time I finish the workout, I'm absolutely exuberant as I walk out of the gym feeling strong and like I'm standing taller and more confidently. Usually I'm really sore for a day or two and then I start getting really excited for my next session....it's addictive to feel as good as it makes you feel :)
