I hate scamming businesses that make it difficult to cancel. Equinox is apparently one of these sleazy gyms that handcuff members to the treadmill. I moved out of state and wanted to cancel. I called and was told I can't simply cancel by phone or email (why not?) and that I would have to speak to a manager who would be calling me in the next day or two. Several weeks later still no call. When I looked online I discovered that policies that make cancellation or freezing membership difficult for customers have a long history at Equinox. For example, a 2014 class action suit addressed this issue. read more

This is a wonderful facility right on Boston post road just outside of the downtown craziness of mamaroneck. They have plenty of parking though events at a nearby high school could make going to the gym here a bit annoying, the parents start using equinox as a school parking lot. The staff here was very friendly, the high end toiletries are a nice touch and they maintain this place very well! This is a great place to network and squeeze in a great workout. It does get crowded in the mornings and good luck getting a treadmill here on a Saturday morning. Pricing is where you expect it to be for a gym of this caliber. After being a member for about 4 years I decided to switch to someone else because the hours were no longer convenient for me. Boy do I miss it though! The spa is excellent. I wouldn't trust this gym. I've previous had a great experience with Equinox, at NY Sports Club in UWS. Mamaroneck though? Really bad customer service. They charged me for Personal Training sessions I did not use, on a card that I no longer check as it was on my old UWS account. They then charged the wrong card again, and didn't refund after not using free sessions. Terrible experience, and they basically store $240 from my pocket. As for the gym experience itself, it's about par but your paying extra. The 10mins it takes me to drive to LifeTime gym in Harrison has been well worth it every morning. Much better service and vibe. first of all positives equinox is super clean - and the maintenance staff is very thorough! The instructors are excellent as well. whether you take ropes and rowers, Pilates, or yoga they will give you a good workout. The spa has wonderful professional aestheticians as well as trained massage therapist. it is expensive but everybody knows what they are doing! Now for the negatives: The management seems to change every six months; so depending on who and when you go in you will get a different rate and get promised different things . this club does not offer enough modifications in the classes for the clients who are over 50 during the classes . It would also be helpful to offer more variety of classes that feature low impact activities besides yoga, Pilates, and barre classes. The parking is always a challenge! They are working on expanding the parking lot. You always need to allow 15 minutes just to park in the parking lot. read more

Love the classes and the trainers. Chad was my first trainer and I miss his workouts! He was awesome. Chrissy is a great trainer also! Everyone is very nice and always willing to help! Jillian's ropes and rowers class is amazing. Doug teaches a great class Monday nights. Dom's pure strength class is my fav. Joshua Diaz has a great Pilates and stacked class! I've been a member here since end of March, and I'm loving it. Yes, Equinox is pricier than other gyms. But if you can swing it, it's so very worth it. The space is bright, clean and (if the weather's cooperating) sunny. My last gym was in a basement and felt like working out in a high school boys' locker room. The staff is just great, from managers to trainers to front desk. I haven't used the spa yet but plan to try that out for a massage soon. There's a juice/smoothie bar (also has pre-made sandwiches and snacks for sale) if you're in a hurry and need some post-workout sustenance. The women's locker room is well-kept and stocked with Kiehls products. I usually come during off hours, and the large parking lot offers easy parking. During busy times it can be packed, but valet service stops that from being a huge headache. I've been training with JoDee, and definitely would recommend her. I'm recovering from two foot surgeries, and she's awesome at working around my healing foot and still giving me a good workout. Basically, I decided it was worth the extra cost to belong to a gym membership I will actually use rather than paying less for one I won't. 5-star experience fo sho. read more

Main reason for writing a negative review: I quite being a member almost a year ago and they still keep on mailing me to either come back or bring in a friend in spite of me telling them at least 5 times that I want to be removed from their mailing list. Other annoyances: trainers and management seem to change very frequently and the best trainers seem to have gone elsewhere. When I had surgery and want to put the membership on halt they made it very difficult for me to do so. I was on crutches and had a bill of my surgery but I had to go back to my specialist to ask for a written confirmation that I was not able to go to the gym. Similar experience with the au-pair that went back home after her contract finished. They kept billing me even though we cancelled her membership. They made it near impossible for me to get the money back. They could see she hadn't used the gym anymore and I had her contract and flight details and it wasn't enough. Another thing that annoyed me: trainers are only paid for hours they sell so whenever you are in the gym trainers are trying to be nice to you just because they need to sell you their hours. It's never just a nice conversation or a quick hello. I cant blame them but it is not nice to be seen just as their next meal ticket. I am currently at a gym where all the staff gets paid just for being their and it is a world of difference. People have been working their for over 7 years and actually know you. And you can just have a nice conversation just for having a conversation. Very relaxed. Equinox is just trying to squeeze everyone coming into that door for as much money as they can. excellent. I was a member of Equinox in Boston - just joined Mamaroneck last month. The brand represents the best- spotlessly clean locker rooms and machines, everything you would expect from a top chain (and it's not cheap). The gym opens early, and stays open late. Trainers are superb. I'm not really a fan of classes, but have done a few and they were fun. The gym is busy, but everyone seems to be good natured about sharing the space. The only thing missing (for me) is a sauna, but there is a steam room. Staff are all very friendly and helpful. read more

This location was very nice and well equipped with various types of cardio equipment and weights. I really enjoyed the eucalyptus towels and friendliness of the staff. They have a nice childcare area and a store for Fitness apparel as well. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in New York. read more

Just what you would expect from Equinox - spacious, clean, modern, and luxurious. I've taken Studio Cycling with 3 instructors, Sunrise Yoga, and Body Sculpt. Hands down best Studio Cycling instructor is Cecilia; can't wait to also try her Barre Burn class! The instructors and classes here are definitely a step up from NYSC. Never had a problem parking during the week when I come for 6AM classes but the weekend is a different story. I haven't had to use them (yet) but there are valets there to help park when the lot fills up, which it does by the time I leave around 10-11AM. That being said I haven't had a problem on the weekends having to wait for equipment etc once inside the gym! Friendly front desk staff, up to date equipment, plenty of space for doing weights and stretching, Kiehls products in the locker room...whats a girl to complain about? read more

One day someone will become a millionaire by offering classes geared towards middle aged people. All these high power, too fast moves in these classes will destroy anyones back, knees, feet, hips, etc over 40. Baby boomers will the largest population of the country in the near future! Wake up. The gym itself is kept very clean and the classes are pretty good except when all the shoes are all over the place instead of in the cubbies they have there and the kiehl's product in the locker rooms are a nice touch my issue was when I asked to speak with a manger and was told none of them were available at the moment and I happened to notice one of the managers was actually sitting by the smoothie bar on her computer doing what looked like homework I also overheard that same girl saying nasty things about some members it really changed my perception of the gym knowing their front desk manager was getting paid to do homework and slander the members I'm considering making a phone call to corporate about her read more

I just joined this past summer and thus far, here are my thoughts: Pros: - great location with tons of free parking - incredibly clean and organized (staff is constantly wiping down machines and picking up after everyone). They even have nice cold eucalyptus towels in cold mini fridges located around the gym for use after a long sweaty workout. - superb and very clean locker room with Kiehls products, steam room, changing area and nice mellow music playing in the backround - very zen - good selection of intense classes with enthusiastic and motivating instructors - convenient snack/juice bar and even a gift shop to pick up nice outfit to workout in Cons: - very small gym. The cardio and weight machines are all crammed into one small space. - the area reserved for streching is incredibly small and always crowded - impossible to workout during their peak hours (mornings and evenings) because there isn't enough weight machines for everyone to use - the cardio machines are not new. At my old gym (which was half the price) each cardio machine had it's own TV. When I joined at the start of the summer they said they were getting new machines and it still hasn't happened. The gym is overpriced considering its small size and limited equipment. It has nice amenities and the staff is very attentive with the cleanliness of the gym, but at the end of the day, it's a gym and not a spa. I've been a member here Since Feb 2012. What drew me to Equinox was how clean, bright, and welcoming the gym is in Mamaroneck. You get what you pay for here, and then some. You always see the staff cleaning the machines, cleaning the bathrooms, and doing laundry there. The white towels they have are almost always warm when I grab a few for my shower. Speaking of the showers, the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are all Kiehls products--and I LOVE them! They also have smaller towels for your workouts and then they have these cooled eucalyptus towels that are scented with oil. They relax me and cool my neck off on the days where the gym may be a little stuffy during the summer. Parking can be a pain if you get there around 9AM. They have valets, though, so even if the lot is full, you won't be late for your class because they handle it all. I've had some offer to pull my car out for me if I was boxed in. They're just a great group to interact with and they make my gym experience less stressful. Personal training can get a bit pricey, but my trainer was always a welcomed sight. They have a slew of trainers all over the gym, and also have them working on days they don't have clients. On these days, you can approach anyone wearing a sky blue shirt and ask them for advice on proper form, or for them to do a basic stretch. I've only done the spa once, but oh my goodness, that one time was spectacular. I got a Swedish massage with Linju after a personal training session and she has magical hands (can't believe I said that). I was like a pile of putty after an hour. Is this better than other spas in the area? I think so. I used to go to the Halcyon spa on Greenwich Ave, but they closed. The spa at Equinox is great because you feel like you're in a rainforest, almost. Literally, like you walk from the noisy gym, and the door to the spa closes every outside noise out. You get a fluffy bathrobe for your experience, and they have you sit in the wait area after a massage and drinking some water. What's also nice is that if you book your next appointment, you get a discount for that appointment. Inside the gym they also have a physical therapy room, but these guys are not affiliated with Equinox in any way. I've gone to Professional PT for my knees when I got bursitis, and I just have to say that they're pretty much amazing. Some of my favorite instructors (and some you should check out!) are: -Donna Marie Mollo (the first instructor I encountered. She teaches almost everything at this gym, but I will always associate her with pilates. She is one of the best I've encountered because she has you spend 10-15 minutes at the beginning of each class focusing on how to engage your abs properly. I found that if I don't go to her class weekly, I forget how to do it! She's also great for spinning.) -Patricia Marinello (she's the best zumba instructor. She's funny, she picks fun and energetic songs, and the dances get your butt moving. You don't do the same move over and over, like some of the other instructors, and I felt sexy while I did some of them.) -Pamela Campana (she used to do EQ360, which would hurt my knees on some days if I was a little too enthusiastic, BUT, that class got my arms toned big time. Pamela makes her classes tough, but the music makes you energized and her words of encouragement make you think about the big picture and make you want to push yourself.) -Franklin Shire (two words: kripalu yoga. Seriously one of the most zen instructors I have encountered, very nice, very welcoming. Focuses more on the breath and meditation, but also teaches you proper form that is comfortable for YOUR body) Cecelia Zapata was one of my favorite instructors, but alas, she resigned recently. I loved going to her Barre Burn class and Spin class. My only complaint is about the change to the classes they offer. In 2012, I went to their classes 6-7 times a week and loved it. They had a great combination of "kick your butt" instructors and classes with both strength training/cardio (lots of HIIT), coupled with more relaxed classes that incorporated more strength training minus the cardio. Then they also had active rest classes like pilates and yoga. Patricia Marinello used to have zumba 2-3 times a week. Now she only teaches once a week, and on a day I can't make it to due to work. The more laid back classes like Barre Burn and (I'm totally blanking on the other class name) were eliminated. Which is surprising, considering these classes were always packed. Like mats on top of other mats packed. So the more laid back strength training classes were replaced by more plyometric, high impact, "holy crap if I tried to do this every day I'd probably die" classes. I have bad knees, so these sorts of classes are just not good for me anymore--let alone almost every day during the week. Bummer. read more

I tried this gym out on a guest pass and was very disappointed with what I experienced. Their is very little equipment in this gym, I have never seen a chain gym with such a small variety of exercise equipment. The equipment they do have is in good shape but their is just not enough there to get a well rounded workout if you regularly attend the gym. This gym is ridiculously expensive and it is absolutely criminal for them to charge this much for a lousy gym membership. When looking around the gym it is clear that this is gym for snobby rich people who think they are getting in shape because they are paying a lot for a gym membership but are not really exercising. If you are going to go to a gym, so you can use one machine and then use gym shampoo and towels while you shower than by all means go to this gym. read more

Equinox had a tent at Rye Town Park the day before and the day of the Jarden Westchester Triathlon. Adam did some stretching with me the day before the event. He was smart about what to do to get my muscles relaxed and ready for an intense workout. As a result, I know I swam better with less tightness from all the training. I was interested in joining with my live-in boyfriend. I currently go to NYSC but not exactly loving it. He goes to Lifetime Fitness and loves it. Wanted something in close proximity to our apartment but a good quality clean gym. Equinox seemed like a fair compromise until we were met by one of their front desk attendants. I briefly explained our possible desire in switching gyms. She explained the membership advisors weren't available so she decided to give us the tour. Automatically she told us the price of membership which I found tacky, at least show us around then we can make our own decisions. I explained I needed to use the bathroom, she quickly stated I couldn't due to privacy. I asked another time and finally she let me use it under supervision by the end of the tour. We were seriously thinking about converting our membership until this incident. I understand it was a front desk attendant but their should be better training for these types of incidents. read more

Buyers be Aware when they offer a trial membership! I was offered a month trial in March and promised a refund when I canceled at the end of the month. Not only did they not refund the initial charge, they keep charging me for monthly fees. I have spoken over half a dozen times and each time they promise to take care but no results. 3 months later I'm still waiting for a refund. They can't be so incompetent. Very shady sales practice. This is the first Equinox I've visited in Westchester and it's amazing. From the attendants in the parking lot to the bright, cheery interior, it's a respite where you can really get some work done. The Tabata class with Pamela Campana is a MUST. I've taken other Tabata classes in the city and while they're the best workouts, they can get a little tedious and make you want to impale yourself. Pamela managed to make this class completely fun with unique exercises and interesting equipment. I think this is actually the best class of any sort I've attended at any Equinox. I will definitely be returning to this class and others at this great gym. And yes, Equinox is totally worth the money if you're into classes, there aren't better. read more
