This is the gym I go to since I move to phoenix, AZ. It's a good gym for those who want a good variety of things from a gym membership. First and foremost, I love their spa. I usually get their full body massage. I will probably be booking one sometime this month again. This place offers a great relaxing massage considering it is a gym. The spa is connected to their salon. The spa is in it's own space and separate from the salon space. The lighting in the spa is dim and it's a very easy going atmosphere. I would recommend this place for a full body massage after or before a yoga session. It's the best way to wind down. -They have an outdoor pool with a water slide. It's pretty fun, I have to add. They also have an indoor pool space -They have yoga for the Yogi in you. The instructors range from really amazing to decent. I've been to classes with instructors that motivate you and inspire you to be a better yogi. I've also been to one class where I left the class feeling like I wasted an hour (But, please note it was one class and one instructor out of the numerous classes I have taken here.) - They have clean showers - They offer locks for your lockers -Friendly staff The list goes on really. This place is definitely geared towards kids and families. No question. and if that is what you are looking for, fantastic. four stars. but they should highlight that, and not try to fruitlessly pitch themselves as a gym for 20- and 30-somethings who are looking for a well-rounded/cross training experience. Unless of course you only want aerobic machines. they have those in spades. However... if they DID want to make this place serve that population, a) you need to have a TRX station that allows the straps to hang down and for people to work out below the anchor point. and if you aren't, you need to have enough space away from the anchor point such that you aren't right in the flow of foot traffic or nearly hovering over a machine. I love they you guys have TRX, but you gotta give it some room to breath. b) the climbing wall is definitely for kids (5.6 - 5.10a). I think there is one 5.11 (guessing 5.11a) and it's not very tall but they have the ability to set some routes (don't need many, one or two would be great) that really challenge people. Also, the flooring material is not a mat but rather that shredded rubber which for bouldering is almost asking for a sprained ankle. c) make the more unique items (Bosu balls, medicine balls, bands, etc.) more accessible and give people much more space to use them. even the personal training space isn't very large. which would be frustrating if you paid for PT and had to wait to use equipment. Don't get me wrong, the pool is fun and the outdoor option is great, but definitely geared toward kids. shame they couldn't put in long lap lanes but waterslides are pretty popular with the 10 and under crowd. read more

Absolutely ZERO STARS. I signed on for the "student discount" of 65 a month (wow such a great deal ). To keep that rate you have to sign a year long contract. I figured it was fine for a year but they purposely didn't tell me that your contract automatically renews. So I went in barely two days after my contract had renewed itself and I was already too late. This was in January of 2018. The only way out of the contract for me was to prove that I moved. THREE TIMES I went in to cancel my membership with my mail from my home address which is now in Tucson. I made the trip to this god forsaken gym three times and all three times I signed a document, I cancelled my membership, and I was told I would not have to pay any more. It's now November of 2019. Almost two full years I've been paying this fee every month. I finally went in for the third time and did the exact same thing. Signed the e-document, shook the managers hand, left after being told it was all taken care of. This morning Lifetime Fitness attempted to pull over 100 dollars out of my account without contacting me. If you sign up to go to this gym you're basically getting married. don't. do. it. The gym itself is a joke. There's a ton of treadmills and cardio machines, and then a gym floor that's packed with a weird amount of children for a gym and way more people than equipment. I tried to go later at night when it was empty but the place closes. Right as you walk in you get assaulted with smell from the cafe. When you're at the gym to work out the last thing you want is the smell of crusty cheese filling the entire gym. It's gross seriously. I was in the showers once and since this club is basically overrun with kids two girls entered my shower. Literally said "who is that" and then pulled my shower curtain open. Extremely disappointed with my experience having a membership at this gym. Towards the beginning of COVID it was near impossible to get ahold of management to pause my membership. After numerous calls I was finally able to pause my membership. I was told that I could extend the hold on my membership at no cost, but come to find out they've been charging me each month. Every Gym has certain disadvantages, yet whatever disadvantage here at Lifetime is compensated by a luxury feel, expansive sections for activities, and Great staff. Jed, a trainer, is very knowledgeable and though young , he can relate well with older members as well. Front desk staff are so wonderful, Anthony and Hirni, among others. First of all, I'll start by saying I'm from Minneapolis, where lifetime is everywhere, so I've been going for years and years. I was really happy to learn there was lifetime is Arizona as well (I go to college here). I believe this club is a bronze level, so I wasn't expecting it to be super nice compared to the one I go to back home. But I actually think it's very nice! The facility is clean and spacious, and their equipment is all pretty new. The locker room is also always clean and well kept. The only thing I'm so sad about is the change in the yoga classes schedule! I'm not super advanced yet so I like to go to the ROOT and Flow Guided classes. The new schedule has these classes at super inconvenient times and are much less frequent I'm thinking about getting a core power membership instead because I really want to keep up with yoga but lifetime has just made it so much harder. Honestly if I'm paying more than a grand for a yearly membership, I shouldn't have to wait more than 20 minutes to get my order from the cafe, that is over staffed with only me in line. It doesn't take that long to scoop ice cream to put in a bowl. I came in with a free one day pass, to decide if I want to commit, right away I was expected to pay, before I could show my pass. The amenities are nice, but deep down there's no one to help or assist you if you're in need of help or questions, unless you commit, or they treat you like peasants and not even acknowledge you. I joined Lifetime Fitness in September after summer vacations and after Covid for the Arora Program for seniors and it is only 1/2 mile from home. I am very disappointed, the facility is really nice, it is more like a resort than a gym certainly I love the pools in the hot tub the only exercise I am able to do in the Aurora program are the water ones. I am 76 have vision problems all of the other classes I have tried, supposedly for Arora seniors, they turn out the lights ? No clue why they want seniors stumbling around in the dark. Aurora strength would be OK if they had the lights on and had a chair to help with balance issues many of us seniors have vision and/or hearing problems which increase balance difficulties. Arora Yoga was too difficult for me again the room lights were turned down and getting up and down off the floor is not my strong point. I love the facility, I love the water exercises. However, I go to the YMCA for silver sneakers 9 miles away, where I see folks there who also do only the water classes at lifetime. I was told at lifetime that they have stopped some Arora classes due to poor attendance. They need to take tips from silver sneakers if they want the seniors to participate. We have lots of seniors here in the winter months, so no lack of seniors. I hesitated to write this because I don't want them to kick me out of Life Time I do like the water exercises and they are close by I just would like them to up their war program to be more suitable for seniors read more

Dear Lifetime Fitness... please come to the SF Bay Area. I cannot say enough about how much I loved you guys. You make me love to work-out and be consistent in getting to the gym. My biggest rave is about your childcare. You offer an infant area when so many other clubs require the child to be a certain age. You were my son's first experience with child care and he really loved it. He'd get excited and start kicking his legs when we walked through your child center doors. You started us off well. (Members gets 2 free hours of child care everyday while they are working out, eating or visiting Lifetime's salon/spa. And the center is really fun and extremely secure.) You also has great classes, an amazing huge gym, giant indoor and outdoor slides (complete with cool slides) and an awesome friendly staff and customer service. I felt like a valued client. Everywhere you go, people are genuinely smiling, happy and asking you how you are. My favorite nights were when the men in suits were in the back, helping the house keeping catch-up with fold towels. Attended a fitness center tour/guest pass day as I was planning purchase a membership for myself, my husband, teenage stepson, and two small children. After the tour I locked my backpack/purse (including wallet, keys, and AirPod case) in a locker in the locker-room, and spent about 40 mins working out at the facility. When I returned to the locker-room, my personal items were gone. Management opened every single locker and my items were no-where to be found. I have filed a police report, and the police officer stated this happens ALL TIME. I spent less than 2 hours in a Lifetime facility and had my personal items locked up out of my site for 40 mins - $2500 worth of personal items were stolen. This is absolutely insane. read more

Many negative experiences, including: Used to attend barbell classes. One time some people new to the format came in after the class had started. They apparently did not know that they needed clips for the weights on the bars, and mid squat I ended up with weighted plates flying at me. When I was a classroom teacher, I came to a class during the day over the summer. The instructor lamented the fact that the classes were more crowded, but assured the class that once school started again "those people" would be gone. I stopped coming the this location due to several experiences, but had kept my lifetime membership. However, even with no longer coming to this club, someone from this location messed with my account. read more

Pros: Great facilities Cafe Walking distance Cons: terrible customer service, almost every interaction I have had with staff has been negative. I understand not every customer is easy to deal with but I know I'm not one of those customers. I have experience with customer service face to face and over the phone, so try to be considerate of that with my criticisms. For example, I have received sighs and push-back from staff for asking assistance to resetting my password/changing email address(which was initially setup incorrectly because of sales agent being careless or uninterested) to wanting my name to be spelled correctly on my member ID. I'm just a bronze member and I know if I payed more money a month I would have a higher tier. With that higher membership would come more benefits, but I did not know one of those benefits is how staff treats you. Conclusion: If you have plenty of white privilege, wealth and happen to live in south Tempe/chandler then this is the gym for you. If that's not you then I would prepare yourself for staff that feel better than you and to be treated poorly. 2/5 stars Update: I got a membership at mountainside, I'm over this place. I tried to cancel before the month was over but they told me I would need to come in and sign a piece of paper to do so and then have to pay another month even though I have a "month-to-month" membership. Even if you have that written in fine print somewhere, it's misleading to call it "month-to-month" and it's a quite aggressive policy. Not happening, you have my old card information so shove it up you know where. Haha you aren't getting another nickel from me! Angry enough to SPIT So my boyfriend recently got a membership to this establishment (specifically this location because it's close to our home) and it's been nothing but frustration since. I get the C19 and having to make adjustments but one of the key reasons he picked Lifetime-Fitness is the 24 hour aspect. Yup, that's gone, and now closes at 10pm. With the last check in time of 9:30pm. Then it was mandatory face masks. Claustrophobia city but I get it. What I can appreciate is that they are incredibly diligent on informing members of any new policies or rules. So you can imagine my surprise when I got a call from my bf this evening informing me that he was TURNED AWAY from the gym he PAYS for because he brought his younger brother. He said that the gentleman Reid behind counter said this was a policy they rolled out a week ago (this is a bold face lie because they were there 3 days ago and had no issues getting in and I distinctly remember this because I was teasing my bf for paying $70/mo to only be allowed 2 guest passes) So was this a new policy or was it because my bf's little brother is African American and has Down syndrome? I looked all over the website and nothing about no guests either. Also, in fantastic Customer Service, you say "going forward because we failed to inform you" and let them in. Now I have an angry bf (now he doesn't have time to drive his brother home and go back) so Reid I really hope you were being honest in your decision to make them leave or you and perhaps Lifetime Douche-ness will have some very bad press and a lawsuit on your hands. The best way to describe Life Time Fitness is that it is essentially a "Country Club Style Gym." This place has pretty much anything you could ask for from a cafe (which has amazing food/drinks/shakes) to a full salon, which even does massages/facials, to tennis courts (i believe the Tempe club may be the only club with tennis), to basketball courts/squash, indoor rock climbing, etc. It truly is a one stop shop, which is why I joined - it's awesome being able to play basketball, work out, have a bite to eat, then hang by the pool and swim. This place has so many features that you could spend an entire day there either solo or with your entire family. This Club also seems to have the best brands of equipment - they recently got in Woodway Treadmills, which are top of the line and these machines will save you from low back/hip pains. I would highly recommend joining Life Time fitness to anyone who is looking for a awesome, clean, innovative facility. read more

I jumped online this morning to see if Lifetime was open yet and was shocked to see any negative reviews. My experience has always been completely enjoyable. I've been attending Lifetime on a regular basis for the past two years that I've lived in Phoenix. The staff immediately made me feel at home. I am always greeted with a smile and a "how are you?". I don't mean to diminish anyone else's experience, but I have to assume that some of these reviews are simply people projecting their own unhappiness and not a real reflection of the establishment. The staff is always so nice! Getting creeped on in the locker room multiple times!? I call big time BS on that one. No one wants to see you bro. No one cares. I use the locker room and sauna every time I'm there. Different times of day, never an issue. Someone else complained about the price. Cool. Don't pay it if it's too much. Go to the competition and enjoy their inferior facilities. Everyone has heard the saying "you get what you pay for". At Lifetime I feel you get more. Order a breakfast sandwich on their app towards the end of your workout. When you walk down on your way out it's ready, warm, and waiting for you. Just terrible right? Almost as bad as the staff telling you to have a nice day and smiling at you on your way out. Ugh. One star! In all seriousness I can't recommend this gym enough. I wouldn't have normally written a review, but in this instance I felt compelled to do my part to right an injustice that far too often occurs on Yelp. I'm inclined to remove a star but I won't because I still love this place but as time has gone on from my last review I can't help but notice this place is just turning into a daycare. I'm sorry I thought I signed up for a gym not a daycare. I've had to wait for a horde of kids to finish crossing before I could even get to the locker room. It's also ridiculous to pay as much as we do to have access to basketball courts only to have half the courts get hijacked by some stupid fad game of pickleball that will probably die off in a year and the other half completely inaccessible because lifetime is more interested in running a daycare than a gym. If I pay this much for a membership with access to basketball courts I expect reasonable access to them not a daycare dominating Monday through Friday for 12 hours. Not the best gym, not the worst. It has some of the lifetime staples and it's clear to see you're in an upscale gym but it's missing some of the finer details. The employees and not super nice and friendly, the facility is dirty, some machines are out of service and there were ZERO towels to be found when I went in yesterday night. If you know about the different levels, the Tempe location is a bronze level. So it basically makes sense why this facility is lacking in a few areas: you're paying a smaller price. I took a look at the north Scottsdale location and instantly fell in love. It's an onyx facility so you're paying a little more per month but it's totally worth it in my opinion. Once I walked in, I could immediately tell a difference. Facility was immaculately clean, locker room was huge, machines were clean and well kept, and lots of towels lol. I met two of the mangers and they were super nice and helpful as well. In the end, I guess it really comes down to your location and what you're looking for in a gym and how much you want to pay. Reading the reviews to this place is hilarious. I guess most of you have never had a gym membership before... If you sign up and read the contract to realize what you're getting into, it's a great gym. I signed up with Brandon who is awesome. I train with Nicole Balmes who is amazing and has shown me a love for weightlifting. While I admit, this gym is very pricey, it is a nicer end gym and worth it. It has an awesome cafe, tons of machines that they seem to fix in a timely manner, and very nice staff. I used to go to the lifetime in Scottsdale and while this gym isn't as nice (maybe it's just 'cleaner'?), I like the people a lot better. I had a trainer at the old gym whom, after I told that my cholesterol/insulin blood test came back with good results, looked me up and down and said 'I highly doubt that'. He no longer works in AZ and for good reasons. The cafe staff is always super nice and the food and shakes are good for it not being a 'restaurant'. This gym can get busy during peak hours, but thankfully my schedule is super weird so I can manage to avoid the rush hours (usually). But even when it is busy, I can still get my routine done. So I definitely recommend this gym if you have the moola. read more

Joined a couple months ago and it has since turned in to my new favorite hang out! First off it is great seeing a place with squash courts, a very fun sport that is a great workout! I play almost every time I go. The workout equipment is in good shape and well maintained. I have not had much interaction with the staff other than when joining and a couple times a week at the cafe, but everyone has been very friendly. Speaking of the cafe it's hard to believe the food is healthy because it is so delicious! The only issue I have here is that there are signs about not taking pictures in the locker room and I see guys constantly taking pictures in the mirrors... I guess they don't have mirrors at home or something but it's definitely a big issue..... I can't really knock off any stars for that because I don't blame the staff since I'm not sure how it could be enforced. This place is so much more than just a gym! I now have to again try to come into the facility which i can not do at this time, OR i can write (another) letter. Which i will end up doing; however inconvenient again...bc they supposedly need my signature again. It's one excuse after another with these people as to what i need to do and the hoops i need to jump through. Absolutely absurd. I already contacted the BBB about their poor customer service. Absolutely a luxury gym experience. I gave five stars for the facility, for the Lifetime fitness company, I give three stars for separation issues. Likely to have to pay for a last month even if you wont attend. Same thing with most gyms. Overall I would pick this gym over any other gym in AMERICA. From the minute you walk through the doors and are greeted by name from the front attendants to the towel desk attendants, everyone is friendly and helpful. I mostly attend spin classes and their recent addition of a spin studio is off the charts. There were some technical issues at the beginning, but everything seems to be sailing smoothly now. Every spin class I take (PWR, EDG, AMP), every instructor is 100% engaged 100% of the time. They're helpful, push you and allow several variations for all levels. Shout out to spin instructors Brigit, Kate, Mike and Erin. Brigit also teaches some other classes I take - EDG sculpt, CORE and strictly strength. She's excellent! Jodie oversees and manages the fitness classes, instructors and schedule. She's very attentive and kind as well. Lastly, Steve Goetz, GM of this site knows exactly how to run a successful club. We have a family membership here and have four children. The facilities are nice, and I enjoy working out here but it is very unfriendly to family. There are almost no small kids playing at the pool or splash pad even though it is summer because the staff at the pool have such ridiculous rules that parents just give up. Even with all the lifeguards we are required to be within arms reach of our kids at all times, even in the shallow part of the pool, even if they can swim reasonably well. If kids finally become advanced swimmers and can go all the way across the pool during a supervised test without help they get a bracelet to wear. They have to get the bracelet every time. It usually takes 15-20 minutes of waiting at a desk for someone to appear to get the bracelet. They lost my daughters test three times and she had to redo it which takes another 30-45 minutes. I am here right now, at 6:20, on a summer day when the pool should be full of kids and there are none here. I have been harassed twice by lifeguards for listening to an audiobook with one headphone while my son plays in the empty pool five feet away. I have been a member here for over 10 years and it has always been this bad. They have "safety breaks" where they make the little kids get out of the pool for 15 minutes of every hour. When there are little kids here this typically results in lots of crying and stressed out parents. And in all my years coming here I have never seen the inside pool water slides on or open. The outside ones are open maybe one in ten times I have come to the pool with the kids. They are a selling point for lifetime not something they actually want your kids to use. They are also restricted to kids that have passed the previously described swim test so mostly just make the little ones sad when they are occasionally open. No, you can not take your kid down in your lap on the slide, in case you were wondering. But they will wait till you get to the top to tell you to ensure maximum disappointment. I have a 17 year old daughter who can drive and picks up her younger sister from school but she is not allowed to pick up or drop off her younger siblings at lifetime, even with my written permission. This makes it almost impossible for either of us to get in a decent workout due to conflicting work/school schedules. Also if the younger kids have a class (like swimming or karate at lifetime) I have to drop my workout, go down and get them, wait for the 30 minutes, and then take them back if I want to finish my workout. Impressively inconvenient. We still come here to work out but it is definitely NOT the family friendly happy parent place that was advertised when we joined. This review is for the spa. I've been at lifetime a couple of years now and never had an issue with having my eyebrows done there. Had my hair done once and no thank you. I just went last week and the woman took off a chunk of the main portion of my eyebrow. I didn't notice until I got to the car. She was nice but like seriously? Everything was good in this place, I used to come here 2 to 4 times a week using the pool the gym the cafe and more. Until I injured my shoulder in at practice and I came to put a hold on my account. Steven which is the guy who signed me up in the beginning started to give me problems on putting it on hold right away so I had to wait for the cycle of my membership to come eat it though I told him I cannot use any of the amenities are used to come here for anymore because of my bad shoulder injury. One of the bad things here is that they keep charging me every month automatically after six months that I was on hold with no permission from me or from my credit merchant service. After I dispute the charges and came to the store personally to try and stop the payments they told me since you dispute the charges you're now dealing with corporate and they give me a number that nobody never answers and not returning my calls. I would really recommend you guys to not go to this place! Don't start any transaction with them! Don't give them your credit card information! Don't sign nothing with them!!! I've been a member at Life Time for a year now and I love this gym! Everyone is always welcoming and friendly and they have so many fitness options. My favorite class is Alpha Metcon with Jess, but I've liked every class I've taken so far. The personal trainers and class instructors are top notch and very helpful for any fitness goals you have. Locker rooms, pool and sauna areas are always clean and the the cafe has so many healthy options. Free towels and water stations too! I have friends that bring their kids there and they say so many great things about the child care at Life Time. I would recommend Life Time to anyone! read more

I had always wanted to check out Life Time because we used to live less than 10 minutes away from the Tempe location. About a year ago my fiancé and I stopped in and knew we had found our new gym! This place literally has everything you would ever need from a gym. Plenty of space, cardio equipment as well as free weights. There's a ton of classes available and I personally love the pool, steam room and sauna. We moved to Mesa 6 months ago but continue to drive out of our way because we love this gym so much.
