This lifetime was recently renovated and it's now the nicest one I have access to. The upstairs is great with lots of natural light coming in which I love. There is lots of spaces to lift weights and a variety of workout classes as well. I did a barre class here which I really enjoyed and im looking forward to trying their yoga or cycling next. Sometimes it can be cramped finding parking in their ramp since they share it with a few businesses but it has always been okay. Overall highly recommend! read more

If you're looking for great group fitness classes, this is the place to go! They offer a wide variety of type of classes and class times. The instructors are encouraging and positive and I always leave feeling great. This lifetime doesn't have a pool or sport courts so if you're looking for those I would recommend a different lifetime (such as Lakeville). The upstairs workout area is new, between that and the downstairs area they have lots of workout machines. It's never been too busy when I've gone. Higher ended fitness gym, but worth the investment. Why? Tons and tons of group fitness classes (nice variety), considerate hours for every human (early to late) which is so crucial when we look at occupations, saunas in both locker rooms, complimentary towel service (clutch), showers with all products stocked by LTF including shower gel, razors, q-tips, tampons, etc., lots of treadmills, stretching area, lifting space, Life Cafe (where you can purchase protein shakes, have a coffee, grab a granola bar) and really friendly staff. My go to class is AMP cycle where I adore I instructor, Brenna. AMP cycle cannot be found anywhere else (at least nothing compares) so it has been a real treat to dive into this space. 4 stars because this location in particular is like a dungeon with very limited natural light or windows (so sad) and there is no pool. If this location ever remodeled, it would be such a huge win for Saint Paul. The hardest part of coming here is knowing you'll be in a cave. read more

I was a member here for nearly seven years. I actually visited several clubs in the Twin Cities because my job has me very mobile throughout the city. They've got great equipment and the place is clean. The problem is corporate and it's in the basement. Parking is horrible, too. It's Highland Park so the parking is expected to be bad. It's depressing to work out in the basement with no windows. For me it creates a dullness to the start of the day. I paid to have a personal trainer for my son. It was expensive. Something like four sessions for $600. The guy was great! My son loves him. I paid for a Garmin HRM and they sent me the wrong one, because the one I ordered wasn't in stock. It didn't fit my son, so I had the hassle of sending it back and I wasn't allowed to drop it off at the club for a return. They wanted the revenue so they sent something smaller to see if it would stick so I was put out by the return. I had to call them to figure out how to return the thing, too. Over the years the cost of the membership dues have gone up, for no apparent reason. It's all about the revenue to them. I got sick and got talked into a "medical leave" that had to be reinstated every three months. So I had the hassle of presenting a doctor's note" every three months. I was a month behind getting them the doctor's letter and I started getting threatening letters and emails from them to pay my membership dues. I told them to end the membership. Instead of ending the membership, I received arguments. Finally I called my attorney and he told me to ask for a HIPA form because they had medical information on me. I did and they ended my membership as I requested. Bottom line, is that they have no right to collect medical information on you to put your membership on a "medical hold" and they know that. This club is the least of the offenders in the Twin Cities. The problem is that we don't have a lot to chose from when it comes to gyms around here. It's better than the YMCA and the cost is relatively the same. Trying to get out of a contract is a nightmare with them. You'd better have an attorney on hand to find out how to do that when the time comes. read more

The club is gold level but is significantly smaller than the Eagan or Lakeville (other gold locations) . However it is packed with machines considering it's size and is clean with a friendly staff. This is sort of like a halfway Lifetime. It's located in the middle of Highland Park in St. Paul, inside of a larger building with several other businesses. It's actually in the basement of the building, so the ceilings tend to be low and it feels like you're on a ship or submarine. Being in such a confined place, this Lifetime location does not have a pool, any major sports courts, or much space at all. It does have the basics and a fairly large amount of weight equipment. All things considered, I feel like I'm paying normal Lifetime rates(not the cheapest) for only some of the services. I'll also note to readers that most of the pictures for this locations Yelp page are stock photos of larger, more modern Lifetime facilities that don't represent this actual location. I've stuck with it though because it's so close to my home in Saint Paul and I place a real premium to not having to make some extra commute to the gym. If you live in the Highland Park area and are willing to pay a premium, this is a good option. If you're more than 10 minutes away from it, go somewhere else. read more

Anyway, this location is sort of near my in-laws house and is a good little get away for me. I'm only there at what I think of as off hours. Weekdays only before 4. And it's still kind of busy. Not crazy or even irritating. (except for the parking) There's plenty of cardio machines, but other than that it looks a little skimpy. No big deal for me. I love that the tiny locker room has a sauna. I dont mind one bit that there's usually someone having their own little Bikram session. Typical St Paulies though, they also apologize and stop. I'm a big fan of this small Lifetime Fitness! Convenient Highland Park location with a free (although limited) parking ramp. This club is small compared to other Lifetime facilities but has all you need including abundant machines, free weights, a cycle studio, two large group fitness studios, and a Pilates studio. There are dry saunas in the locker rooms and a life cafe. Only thing missing is a pool (and jacuzzi). For the cost compared to other higher level Lifetimes, this is a great fitness club. read more

I became a member of lifetime fitness over 2 years ago when we moved to here to MN from PA. I had my toddler son also on our account and had to put my account on hold due to my 2nd pregnancy as I could not make it to the gym towards the end of the pregnancy and after birth. I had my membership on hold and wanted to continue the hold (while working at home towards the goal of being able to get my now 15 month old daughter ready for the gym's daycare while I worked out). My membership was turned back on and I was billed regular dues. I tried e-mailing and even called the manager - Mary Moehrle, to get the account back on a hold and explained my situation and this is the e-mail she sent me. I wanted to put it out here for all to see and know. I have decided to cancel my account with lifetime fitness as a result of their lack of understanding and unwillingness to work with me and their lack of customer service / disregard / rudeness - call it what you may. I leave this for all to see and interpret as you want. What I would like to see happen from this post is for them to extend a more flexible customer service. Why could they not put my account back on hold? They would still be making the $10 per month hold fee that they charge (I paid it for the entire time my account was on hold plus a processing fee that they charge every time a change is made to the membership account. Infact, their policy requires a 30 day notice every time a change is made and I paid full dues (approx $100 per month) even though I could not make it to the gym and I was ok with it. However, this episode has left a sour distaste of lifetime fitness for me and I will never recommend the gym to anyone. There is plenty others. read more

I love this Life Time location. Yes, it's small. Yes, it's not in its own building. Yes, it doesn't have a pool or sports courts. I pay $75 a month and only have access to this one but I do feel like it's worth it. I go to a class 4 times a week and workout on the equipment 2-3. If I compare the classes I take to that of another gym like CorePower or Alchemy - it's a great deal. The class instructors are awesome and Eriko (I believe her title is something along the lines of fitness program manager/director) is amazing! She's great about keeping a good mix of classes available and changing things when they don't work. I do wish there were more stuidos though so more classes could be offered at the same time! Everything is always SO clean - from equipment to locker rooms to the entry area. They do a great job. Towels are always stocked and they have enough showers that I've never had an issue with waiting for one. I always feel like they update equipment when necessary and replace weights/mats/etc. when they are worn out. The staff is friendly as well - front desk, cafe, spa - they all are great! read more

I had been a 15-year member of Life Time Fitness. Not anymore! Life Time used to recognize the win-win of long-term members: (1) they could rely on consistent and steady funds; and (2) in exchange, they could reward those very long-term members by keeping their dues increases more reasonable. It almost became "golden handcuffs"--encouraging me to continue being a member. Why would I leave? In 2014, Life Time had a significant shift in corporate philosophy. Beginning in 2014, each year I have had an unusually large dues increase, well above inflation. After three years now, my dues have increased over 50%! I've tried to talk to them, but staff just gets defensive. Life Time apparently thinks I should be happy with their shift in philosophy, resulting in me paying 1.5 times what I was paying in 2014! Life Time's new priorities are clear: Go for higher profits, whatever that takes. Who cares about member loyalty!?! That's Life Time now. You can have it. Good-bye, Life Time! read more

Pros: -Usually very clean. -Friendly and attentive staff -Offer a lot of group fitness classes -Plenty of cardio and strength training equipment. -Free parking in ramp Cons: -Smaller gym -No basketball courts -No Pool/Hot tub -No Steam room -Can get very crowded with New Year's crowd They also have good Run Club and Cycle clubs that run/ride along the River near the gym. I have been to several Lifetime gyms and this one is by far the worst. The parking situation is a disaster, but what's worse is the women's locker room. It's tiny and there is not enough room for everyone to comfortably fit. Everyone is always in a huff and mumbling ill will toward each other under their breath because someone is always in someone else's way. What is supposed to be a stress relieving workout experience turns into Hunger Games in the locker room. The gym itself is dank and in a basement. It's humid and impossible to cool down in the summer. The only class I've done there is spin and the instructor is great. Sadly, I can rarely make that class time, so I try to use my iPad to do a spin video on YouTube, but alas, the wireless never works. There's a sign near the front desk that says wifi has allegedly been updated. Connecting is no problem, but videos always crap out after a few minutes. It's a "Gold" level gym, but there's no pool or basketball courts and some of the equipment is pretty old and outdated. My step daughter enjoys the child care center and the staff in there is very nice. My only gripe is that they paint my kid's face without asking first if it's okay. She's 8; of course she'll say yes! It would be nice to have a heads up on that. read more

But, the best reason to go to this location is its trainers. They're generally pleasant, knowledgeable, and helpful in pursuing your goals +/- your self-sabotaging behavior. I also like that the club is small and, outside of peak hours, it's rare to be falling over other people trying to use/find the equipment--perhaps outside of the squat stands. Adapt. Overcome. Improvise. Now, even if insurance/work didn't contribute to the dues, I'd still go there as: 1) it's close, 2) it has everything I want/need outside a pool/whirlpool/steam room, and 3) it's by a lot of my amenities. I owned this place between the hours of 10:30 to 12-something am almost every day of the week for a year. It would be just me alone usually. The people who worked nights at this 24 hour location had enviable jobs. Girls would drop in to be "entertained" by the staff, they would watch TV, and generally screw around. No pool here and machines are semi-maintained. They tend to clean infrequently and the towel service and bathrooms are about the same. Sorta ok. Example: my favorite machine here was something that isn't made anymore called a freerunner. It was the best thing in the gym and way better than any of that garbage elliptical crap. It felt like running in wet sand. Anyway, one of the two of them was always broken. read more

I have found myself with a membership to Lifetime 3 times in the last 10 years, keeping it for only 3-6 mths the first two rounds. First was New Hope, small, but really only went for yoga. Second Woodbury, whoa busy, but big. Third and current, Highland Park. I enjoy this club and end up working out during off hours usually, however during peak hours it doesn't seem to be packed inside, only in the ramp. You can hardly find a spot during peak hours. The class selection is good with many different times to fit with any schedule. The staff in child care is great, my kids like coming to the club with me. Membership/front desk has always helped me with a smile. Anna my personal trainer is fantastic, she helps with keeping my workouts less mundane and more beneficial. read more

This is a great gym and I highly recommend it. I work in fitness, so I have a pretty critical eye when visiting gyms. This one has it all; platforms, o-rings, ViPRs, kbs, battle ropes, plyo boxes, ab dollys (I have only seen these in one other gym)...plus all the standard stuff. I did not check out any classes, but the schedule is robust and the studios are top notch, especially Pilates. What really surprised me though was the staff. The front desk associate (I can not recall her name) was friendly and made conversation. When I left she remembered me and asked how my father was doing. Mahlon Thomas was the manager and could not have been a nicer guy. If you are looking for a gym near Highland Park look no further. If I lived in the Twin Cities I would be a member. I've gone to this gym regularly for nearly two years, and it's been okay. If you live in Highland Park, it's super convenient, and if you'll go often enough, it's a good investment in yourself. However, it is quite expensive- I pay about $75/month for a single membership (and can only go to this club- no access to other lifetimes- I believe that's an additional $10/mo). The facilities themselves aren't great. They are always clean (thankfully) but the gym is in the basement of a building, with low ceilings and no windows. It feels very small, industrial, and closed in. Also note that during the summer, it gets VERY damp & muggy, and the A/C is definitely not as strong as it should be in the muggy summer heat. There is a dry sauna in the locker room, a number of showers, but no hot tub or pool. No basketball, racquetball courts. Basically it's just a basic gym, but you're still paying the Gold rate for a fancier club. Really doesn't seem fair. I do enjoy working out here however, the weight room is small but has a lot of equipment, and lots of free weights. read more

I am very satisfied with this gym and happy to pay my monthly dues each month. Agree with the previous post adding the following: The classes: Wide variety and teachers are either good, great, or oh-my-gosh-amazing. They offer spin classes in early morn, noon, evening and various kickboxing, bootcamp type classes as well. Provide group fitness atmosphere to various abilities depending on the class. I wish they had more weekend classes though classes are 7 days a week. A big change here has been that yoga is growing. They must offer 6+ yoga classes each day. It's a sports-club yoga (you won't be reading Sanskrit here), but the teachers are pretty good (pick your fav) and there's no extra charge. Weights: good deal of free weights and machines. All mats, medicine balls, etc. are in good condition and appear barely used even though I know they're not! The facilities: Clean and comfortable. Have mouthwash, lotion, etc. in the restrooms. Locker rooms are always cleans and often sparkling, except for the showers after busy times. Adding a LifeCafe, Spa upstairs as we speak. This isn't a super posh place, but it's a huge step up from 24-fitness which isn't much less per month. Clientele: I think everyone's generally friendly but there for a reason. I have heard from other Lifetimers that this is a gym that people go to work out at, not a gym they go to be seen. Parking: the lot is never ever full, but sometimes it's a slight pain to get in and out due to the configuration of the lot. This isn't something anyone can control and is very minor. Management: friendly. It has a cooperate feel and the advertising inside the club really bothers me (I have already paid once to be here, don't advertise to me again!). But what can you do? First off, it's a bronze level Lifetime so that had to be remembered when comparing it to other locations. Space is in basement of building. Lots of cardio equipment. Singles of most of the resistence machines. Free weights area is pretty popular no matter what time of day you come. Around lunch time is a good time to come, 5-8pm weekdays is pretty crowded. It's a great gym. The facilities that they have are nice, as all of Lifetime's facilities are, but the gym is also a lot smaller than most lifetimes, which I like. It's much quiter. The downsides are that they gym doesn't have a pool, hot tub, steam room, basketball court, and sometimes I feel like it's a bit 'uppity' there. I like to just do my own thing and workout, but I feel like you have to keep up appearances there. Still though, good gym. I've been going for years now. read more

I do enjoy working out here, but have a few gripes and wishes. 3 stars because: - It's in the basement - Parking ramp gets very packed, and walking eight flights of stairs just isn't desirable after you've done a workout. I try to tell myself I'm burning bonus calories... - The "sauna" is not very hot, and throwing water on the stove is not allowed (disclaimer: I'm of Finnish blood. Saunas without water and steam is like Blasphemy) - A hot tub might make up for the lack of satisfaction gained in the "sauna" - Members can be rather snobbish, not a whole lot of friendly "hellos" being thrown around here. (Another disclaimer: I'm pretty much there to do my thing and go home, so I don't make much effort either) - Lastly, the guest policy overall is just plain LAME. Dear Lifetime, Allow us to bring guests, without limiting the number of times, and maybe you'll win over a few new members instead of pissing them off when they have to pay $15 for a workout. p.s. Not a great place to learn yoga. Extremely crowded classes. Instructors do not demo. I was told to find someone good in class and do what they do. In a burn class I asked the instructor if she could suggest modifications and was told that it is what it is. Snobby. I go back every once in a while since it is in my neighborhood but nothing changes. I now go to the Target Center location where the teachers are helpful and explain the moves and demo if necessary. They teach! And they reach out and care about members. read more

Its in the basement and they have definitely updated things in the last year by adding dedicated spin, yoga and pilates studios - which are really nice! The fitness classes are pretty good and it is pretty easy to get on the cardio and weights most of the time - not overly crowded. After purchasing a home in our new neighborhood several months ago, we knew that we needed to find a great fitness facility to replace our previous club in another state. As most of the review state, parking is somewhat of an issue but, the club and staff are far and above an L A Fitness (pressure sell) or an Anytime Fitness (cheap excuse for a facility) etc. The facilities at the Highland Park Lifetime Fitness are good with plenty of machines available, good class schedules, many good instructors, and a healthy cafe, spa. I wil have to say that I still haven't found a substitution for Wilson's Fitness in Missouri. read more

The worst lifetime. Space is super crammed and you are constantly negotiating for weights and equipment. Weird small feel in a basement with 1980's mirrors all around. The floor in the training area is slanted, so it throws off everything for lunges, planks, and every exercise in this area. Also, parking is a nightmare. Wanted to give them a 1 Star but they did eventually refund the money they took from me by misleading me on multiple occasions, then not canceling my membership. 1st, ask for a detailed bill, check the prior 12 months for all charges, you may find you have been charged for a magazine subscription.... apparently you agreed to this when you signed up - not the case, they add this which i described to them as fraud in my mind.... they refunded me the $1.25 per month add, may not seem a lot but it's the principle. Also check for other mysterious charges.... So try and cancel and request all my details are deleted including back details. They confirm, the next month another charge.....WTF, went to bank to block them, wrote emails to Life Time kicking off and finally got refund. Fact is I would not have got any money back unless i complained a lot and raised all the issues.... read more

Facility is too small for amount of members, not enough parking, poor air conditioning in the summer feels humid inside, TVs are not high def no TVs in weight room, large area of gym is off limits for personal training, if a piece of equipment breaks it will stay broken for a while. Raul's boxing class is pure torture and I love every minute of it. The other members of the class are inclusive and very helpful. A word of caution, you probably want to be in pretty good shape before attending. It's incredibly intense. read more
