I think it's a pretty good gym. It's got everything you really need for a gym. The cafe and the spa are good and make this not your average gym. A few downsides though: no full sized lockers. For over $100 a month, you think that would be a given. The gym can be extremely crowded, like excessively crowded. No parking spots and the main hallway is flooded with people, most notably kids. On the weekends, they also try to hawk a bunch of stuff in that area as well. Maybe because of the large population of the gym, they don't have a lot of the little fitness tools that you see at other gyms (might get stolen) but ab wheels, stretch bands, plank handles, jump ropes, etc. are not available. This is also the only gym I've ever seen with a shortage of gym mats. Also, a big peeve of mine is how the weighted bars alternate between curl and straight bars every 5 pounds. If I want to go up on my weight for bicep curls, I have to switch to a straight bar. Only if I get up past the weight of the straight bar can I get another curl bar. Weird. There aren't any build your own bars either. It is not the gym's fault necessary but I have never seen a more inconsiderate group of gym patrons. Leave towels everywhere, monopolize equipment and do not unrack their weights. The free weight sections is usually a chaotic mess and good luck finding the weight you are looking for in the right place. I've worked out consistently at half a dozen gyms in the metroplex and have never seen the entitlement that some of these people have....maybe they are just clueless. In sum, this is about the best Plano has to offer. Its a good gym, but if you have worked out for awhile at other gyms, you can see where it has room for improvement. read more

We joined a couple of years ago and just didn't feel we were getting our money's worth. The equipment was often outdated or didn't work right. There were often things on the schedule, only to show up and it not be happening- such as volleyball (a major reason we joined). Getting the Life Time Bucks and referral rewards promised to us was always a huge hassle and the special programs for kids (karate, swimming etc.) cost more than if we were to sign them up elsewhere. There's no discount for being a member here. Since my kids did seem to enjoy their time there, I thought I'd check out the place again, only to find out they had increased their pricing dramatically. Not to mention the child care went from $6/mo per kid to $20. We have 3 kids, so that's clearly not going to happen. Obviously not a place that caters to larger families. read more

Lifetime Fitness needs to decide whether it is a fitness facility, or a day care. All year round and especially in the summer, the female "ADULT" locker room resembles a Mommy & Me class! Family changing rooms exist but are seldom used if the activity in the locker room is any judge. On any given day there are young girls running and screaming in the showers, or crying because Mommy is blow drying their hair! I pay premium prices to enjoy my spa experience, not get involved in someone else's day care issues. I would venture that Lifetime pulls in about $30.00 a day for summer camp per child; use that money to build a day care facility instead of an expensive indoor tennis facility! read more

I was super happy with Lifetime Fitness but then....i had to cancel my membership because I was moving to a city that didn't offer a location near me. Be warned that they make it a huge hassle to quit! Because I'm no longer in the area, they require a certified handwritten letter...yes that's right,...old fashion snail mail which requires that I stand in line at the postoffice an hour in order to send the letter by certified mail. The basketball courts are good but they are literally always under repair or there is some class there teaching on the courts I don't ever write reviews but I just walked in and on one basket there was a shattered backboard that they refuse to fix it's been like that for at least a week and now even though one side has a broken basket the extremely smart staff decided to repaint the floors on the other half of the court so that court was entirely down and then on the other court the had some sort of kids class going on so I couldn't go there and this is not the first Time I have been going to this lifetime for about a mount and my first time going there they had a kid class on one court so I went to the other court and started playing a game while I was playing a kid came and stole my ball I didn't know where it was so I went to a manager who couldn't understand what I was trying to tell her I was trying to tell her I think someone stole my ball so is there some sort of lost and found and she just seemed so confused then after I left they called me and said they found my ball because the kids camp had it. Like I said I have only been going to this lifetime a month after I moved to Dallas and I haven't had a good experience there ever I used to go to a lifetime in Houston that actually could manage there gym read more

All the negative reviews made me feel like I need to write a positive one! Sure, sometimes the customer service sucks. Sometimes the food the cafe pushes out is inconsistent. Yes, they do try to up-sell but it is a business after all. Of course the machines are sometimes down, that's the technological age for you. But really, for a little less than $100 a month, you can get so much more for the $60 at another gym or the $150 or so a month one would have to pay a yoga studio. Clean locker rooms, towels, soap, locks and blow-dryers provided, great machines, an awesome pool for my kid, a yoga or fitness class at almost every time slot of a day. The cafe is delicious, the stylist in the Spa so good I switched from my uptown Salon and get less expensive cuts now. Really, I thought the cost was a bit much when I choose to switch from my other gym but Lifetime has proven to me it's totally worth it. read more

I agree with the earlier post that the gym is going downhill, but mostly in the customer service area - it is being operated these days as a money grab. Just one example - the members pay alot of money on a monthly basis for access to the facilities, but management routinely rents out the basketball courts and tennis courts to outside organizations, non-members for their kids bday parties, etc. to add to the bottom line - shutting the members out of the facilities during peak hours. Tonight both basketball courts were occupied for well over an hour (the entire time I was there) - one for private basketball skills lessons and the other for a youth basketball team practice. I would like someone from management to explain to me how renting the facilities to nonmembers enhances the membership experience for those of us who pay their dues every month. It is irritating to drive there with my kids to use facilities that are unavailable because the manager found another way to squeeze a few bucks out of the place. Do your salespersons disclose this practice when touring the facilities with potential members? read more

Read the fine print. When we signed up, they said we could cancel our membership anytime. I went in today to cancel our family membership and they now are saying I will have to pay for the entire next month $250. I will not sign up at this gym again. Very expensive for what you get! read more

First of all, none of the workers at any of the "help" desks know what they are doing. I called ahead of time and explained I was staying at a hotel down the road for a few weeks while my husband is in town on business and that I had a pass for the duration of our stay. They said no fees, yes they have childcare blah blah... GREAT. So I get there it was such an ordeal just to get "registered" then I asked where the childcare was and she said oh, I don't think you can have kids here since you're just a guest. I explained that I had already called and they said it was fine. I filled out paperwork, went and dropped the girls off (another 10 minute ordeal), finally made it upstairs to the cardio floor, and the guy at that desk says no gym bags allowed... WHAT?? Ok, so where do I put it, he said in a temporary locker. So I said ok, where is that? He said downstairs but you need a temporary key card. Ok, so where do I get that? Front desk, ok. Head down there. She searches and said she's out of them, go to the activities desk, they will have plenty. I go there, he says no, we never keep them here. Ok, where do I go now? He said try the towel desk. Ummm... Ok. So I go there. Poor man working the towel desk was the ONLY helpful person there. But guess what, he said no, we don't keep them here. Fine, will you just watch my dang bag then?? He says, sorry no. By now I'm extremely frustrated. My children have been in the childcare for close to 30 minutes at this time with only a 2 hour time limit, and I've been at the facility for close to an hour and still haven't touched a cardio machine. By now my frustration is written all over my face and I explained it all to him. He says come with me, I will figure this out. He walks me back to the front desk, and asks the SAME girl who sent me on this goose chase about the key card. She says oh yes, right behind me at that desk there is a drawer full. So I'm thinking, WHAT????? You sent me all over this flipping place and they were 10 feet from you?? Nice man gets me my key card. I finally make it to the locker room to lock up my stupid bag, yes it's stupid at this point, and you need a freaking manual to figure out how to work it and get your key out of the locker. Thankfully after 5 minutes of trying I had to ask a member there who laughed and said that she had the same problem at first. By the time I made it to the treadmill, I had barely an hour left. So I squeezed in a quick 5.5 miles and had to go pick up my girls because time was UP! The place is nice and clean and there are plenty of cardio machines, that's the only reason I'm giving it 2 stars. For workers to have little black ear pieces to communicate with one another, you would think they could at least get their crap together. If this gym wasn't "included" in our hotel stay, I so would not go back. Ready to go back home to my gym!! read more

I will never recommend Lifetime - Plano to anyone. They are money hungry cheats of the first order. We signed a one year contract and wanted to cancel when the contract was up. They continued to charge my credit card despite being told to cancel. They will try to extort the last drop out of you with excuses to read the fine print. Even the reminder follow -up for cancelling the membership is misleading. The account managers purposely avoid you until the 5th day to get you charged for the next month. Just stay away from that gym and never give your credit card information to them. I will recommend LA fitness or 24 hr - been a member of both and was never ripped off like Lifetime. read more

Friendly, helpful staff. Nice locker rooms although toilet area could have more space. Towel service is convenient. Clean equipments, but not much free space upstairs. Free weights room smells like sewage. I'm assuming it's cause of the big pool. A lot of cardio equipments. Awesome yoga classes. Overall it's a good gym, but I spend time in the weights area and I don't want to breath in something that make me feel queasy. read more

Me and my wife come ever so often to play some tennis and run. The staff is nice and there are plenty of things to do as far as physical fitness. Only issue is I wish the shower area was cleaner but that has more to do with the other customers. Overall I think it deserves 3 stars. read more

We used to be the member here and enjoyed to a certain part, we felt it is not worth about $180/month we shelled out unless you use their indoor swimming pool in the winter. Even there the water was little colder. They need to have more lockers available in family locker area as half the time they had no locker available even if they were very few families in the swimming area. read more

Beware - you are about to sign your soul to the devil. The WORST customer service I've ever experienced. I have never felt moved to waste time writing a review... until now. We cancelled our membership because we were moving out of state. They said it had been "handled", but we kept getting charged... I called them again - this time they said we had to send a certified letter. I wasted time typing one up and going to the post office. We kept getting charged. I called them again - they said they "misplaced" it and I would have to send ANOTHER one. They kept charging me. I came back in town for a business meeting, and stopped into Lifetime IN PERSON to cancel the membership. They gave me a letter with the manager's signature on it. I KEPT GETTING CHARGED. Today I saw that I've was charged again for June. Not worth suing when it's $12.99 /month, and they know that. They are rude, do not return phone calls, and pass the buck whenever possible. We have been members of LTF for 7 plus years in Arizona. We recently relocated to the DFW area, only to find out that any of the clubs in our area are Platinum and above. Considering that every single thing in this club is EXACTLY the same as the two clubs we used in the Phoenix area, we can't seem to figure out why the clubs are so pricey as well as snobbish, except that it's Plano. You would think a business would strive to keep their longtime customers; in this case, you would be wrong. When my husband spoke to the person handling current members, the response blasé at best. Needless to say, this gym has lost our business. Someone should mention to their people that some of the best or worst advertising they can receive is word of mouth. It is safe to say I will advise anyone I know to skip LTF and look for a gym that is interested in helping their clients rather than one interested in squeezing their members for every dime they can get. read more
