After a long (& hot) bicycle ride, we were passing by this LTF and decided to cool off and hit the pool. When we checked in the observant staff noticed our matching bike jerseys, so we had to confess that this was not our usual LTF. They were very welcoming-even to the extent of showing us where the locker rooms were to get to the pool. My first time ever coming to this facility and I didn't feel anywhere near welcomed. I went with my brother who insisted that I use a guest pass to experience the facility prior to becoming a member. I have previously worked as a front desk employee at a gym and the way my older brother and I were treated was uncalled for. I have never thought that I would be the victim of a rude interaction. I honestly don't know if I want to be apart of an unwelcoming environment. Colleen needs some serious customer service training. After almost 5 years, we're finally throwing in the towel, giving up, canceling our membership, and moving to the Anytime Fitness near our house. Our last day at the club is May 31st. Unfortunately, our main problems are things that the club can't do anything to fix. Basically, It's just too damn busy when we go there. (We can only workout around dinnertime because of our daughter's school schedule.) PARKING: It's almost always a pain parking between 4 and 7 during the week. This is worsened because the ice rink people frequently park in the club's lot. CROWDED: It's always a pain getting the equipment we need, especially earlier in the week. We do 2 body parts per day, 3 exercises for each body part and 3 sets for each exercise (for a total of 6 exercises and a total of 18 sets). We ALWAYS have to substitute 1, 2, or 3 exercises every workout because someone is on a machine or taking up a bench. In other words, many times, half of our workouts are messed up! RUDE MEMBERS: They have a big problem with members that leave and don't put weights away...or they walk away when they are still using a station. During busy times, you have to guess is someone is still using something. This is a prescription for conflicts. We've had a few. What a pain! I shouldn't have to guess if someone is still using something. OTHER BITCHES: The club used to be open 24 hours. Now they close at midnight. They used to keep the Family Locker room open til closing (midnight). Now they lock the changing rooms at 9:00 pm because there was some sort of incident that everyone is very cagey and secretive about. So... We're off to Anytime. It's a lot closer, it's never busy, we only have to walk a few feet to the door, and it's cheaper. We can also go to any Anytime Fitness location in the US and it doesn't cost us extra. -Daddy Maxx Retro P.S. We're going to miss some of the people we've met over the years. Great selection of equipment, never crowded and has a clean facility that I well staffed. It surpasses my expectations in terms of the LifeCafe and the chiropractic services offered. Most surprising of all, it's a Bronze Club. I like it much more than the Gold and Platinum level clubs that LifeTime has. The staff, though plentiful, seem a bit tired. The front desk people especially present as knowledgable, but not particularly happy to be there. The locker room is decent. The showers and the lockers are clean and plentiful. My only suggestion is that there ought to be more than a single place to discard the used towels in the locker room. There are also two tanning beds as well. They were dusty and probably not cleaned. Judging by the sanitizer bottle on a table nearby and the stack of paper towels, I assume that this would be the Member's responsibility to clean the tanning beds. Overall, this is a great club and I would be happy to recommend it to any of my friends and family. read more

I had been going to the Maple Grove LT since 2009, but a few weeks ago I decided to make the switch to Champlin. The result? I'm much happier. I love shooting hoops, and I find an open one to shoot on 95% of the time...unlike the Maple Grove location. I'm going to knock the hoops down a peg though because a few of the rims seem to be crooked or almost broken. The weight room isn't huge and spacey, but it isn't small either. I love how it never seems to get too busy. But when it does, it's very manageable (I should mention that I go in between 6am and 3pm...never later than that...so I can't speak for evening hours). The locker room is nice and large, that's always good. No outdoor pool, so that's disappointing. The weight room only has two power racks, and it has no rubber plates. But they do have a few machines that other LTs don't have (like a hack squat machine for instance), so that helps offset things at least a little bit. Overall, I love this LT. It's pretty great for only being a bronze level. Feels more like a gold. All in all, the Lakeville and Plymouth LTs are the best ones I've ever been to (and Savage if it had a better gymnasium), but Champlin is the calmest LT I've ever been to...and cutting down on dealing with crowds is something I truly value. That said, no rubber plates and the small quantity of power racks makes it hard for me to recommend it to to the truly heavy or Crossfit lifters. Fortunately for me, I'm neither of those. I can get away with what they have just fine. And any time I need to do heavy deadlifts, I'll just have to go to Maple Grove. In summary... Good for: Basketball, cardio machines, lifters who don't need to slam weights on ground, and people who are looking to get away from crowds. Bad for: Outdoor swimmers, people who need to slam their weights down, people who do all or most of their work in a power rack, and people who like to chat with others while they workout (and if that's you, then I definitely recommend Maple Grove). read more

Champlin lifetime has become a little gem in the north suburban coal mine of gyms. This club is clean, the equipment is in good shape and has plenty of them (no waiting!) and the locker room is tidy. The general vibe I get is totally different from other Lifetime Fitness centers. At Champlin, the staff is friendly and the members are less concerned with showing off and more likely to just workout (what a concept!). read more

This place is one of the best Lifetimes I've been to because of the cleanliness. It's a typical gym so the only reason I pay a little extra to go here is because of the steam room. On a side note I'd like to point out that over the past four years I've seen the prices of protein shakes go from $4-$7. This is ludicrous, if you bought one shake a day for a month you would spend more than twice as much as your membership. Half a banana, a few raspberries, and a scoop of protein costs less than $3 so profiting 120% off a product shows unethical business practices. read more

I've been to 5 of lifetimes locations & I find this one to be the best. less crowded, huge windows in cardio area & much cleaner locker rooms than other sites. my husband & I found the staff to be friendly & he enjoyed the pick-up basketball game in the gym. read more

I live in Andover and work in Edina, there's probably about 5-6 different Lifetime in between my commute, but I always choose to come here. This location has more amenities for a bronze location than any other bronze location. Whether you're looking for a pool with a slide for the kids, yoga/core power studio, life cafe-- this location has it. The machines are neatly organized and well taken care of. The classes are always a good size and never too full. The staff is always smiling and extremely helpful. I couldn't ask for a better place to spend an hour each day! Highly recommend! read more

The gym is great but the childcare center is terrible. The teenage girls working there seem to care less about the kids and more about socializing with one another. I only trust my kid with two of their team members and try to go on the days when they are working otherwise I get a little nervous leaving them with the other rude teen girls. read more

Love the gym. My kids love the child center and its staff. It is more of a local gym than the larger ones like Fridley, so you can't do everything (tennis, racquetball, ect.) but you don't have to do everything all the time. read more
