I called for some information on luggage repair. I explained my issue and was told initially they could do it, then was told they could not. I asked for a recommendation and they said there is a luggage repair business in town. I asked if it was Abq Luggage and Zipper Repair and was placed on a long hold. When the woman came back, she said it was the business I asked about and I told her I'd already been down there and they're closed for a month sabbatical. She didn't say anything so I said hello and then she asked if I was calling to buy luggage. Maybe I'd have a better experience if I went in person. read more

I have been a long-term customer of this business. They used to have great customer service. I recently purchased a set of luggage and one of the pieces ripped after one use. I brought it in, assured that they would happily replace it. I was told that they would not replace it and furthermore, they acted like they could care less about my concerns. I can no longer recommend the store and will never shop there again. Many of their products can be found for less than half price at stores like Ross and TJ Maxx but I was a loyal customer because I like to support local businesses, however, this business no longer has anything to offer. So, I don't typically review business outside of the food arena, however, after my stop into Lieber's yesterday I just have to. Not only was my customer experience waaaay above and beyond my expectations, his young Ladd knew his product knowledge and made all sorts of incredibly viable recommendations. I was absolutely floored to be honest, by how well he knew his wallets...unbelievable. I needed a more passport-friendly wallet to help consolidate my traveling credentials and trust me, they've got just about every option available. They seem to carry the highest end bags and the tasteful and skilled staff is all too willing to help find the perfect accessory items. It's International Women's Day, let's celebrate a business owned by Frank Fine, but run by his wife, Leslee Richards. Together, they make a great team and they operate one of the more unique stores around the entire metro. In this day and age, luggage stores aren't really supposed to exist; you're expected to find your bags at big box stores, at discount outlets, or cheapies online. Lieber's is a real exception. They know their product. They understand that consumers sometimes need to compromise quality for cost. I don't travel all that often, so I need a sort-of-rough-and-tumble bag at a sort-of-upscale-ish-price, and I don't want anything showy. This place has my brand new bag. And like most especially exclusive specialty shops, Lieber's also hand-picks some really terrific travel nicknacks and household accessories. This is one of those shops where I'll shop last-minute for virtually anybody over the age of 15, you know the situation, the whole Oh no I totally forgot it's so-and-so's birthday, I need a great present... Lieber's! And I'll walk out the door with an all-in-one lemon juicer / nose hair clipper / martini glass and I'll be psyched. Solid customer service, median prices, woman-run. I live in Santa Fe, but Lieber's is my go-to store for luggage and travel accessories. The selection is far superior to any of the travel stores up here, the staff are knowledgeable and helpful, and I've never been disappointed in anything I bought at Lieber's. For example, when I was going on a trip to Central Asia and needed a soft-sided carry-on bag with specific size limitations, Lieber's recommended a Briggs & Riley bag. It wasn't cheap, but it's held up beautifully through four years of rough handling, so it was well worth the price. (And everything I need for a 3-week trip fits into it: One of my fellow travelers nicknamed it the Tardis!) They have everything from travel clotheslines and fold-up reading glasses to travel underwear, and the staff know their products. I highly recommend them. read more

In ABQ for just one night, my handle to my Travelpro Crew 8 broke off. Understanding the situation, Lieber's was kind enough to do a same day warranty repair to my bag. I was very grateful for this quick turn despite the large amount of repairs they do. Store has a great selection, I ended up buying some additional eagle creek travel gear they sell. Recently I needed a new luggage lock, the clerk helped me pick it out and even programmed the combination (I always have problems doing that, she made it look easy). It was the week before Christmas and I was desperate to find a nice laptop bag for my husband. Checked all over the mall, nada. Someone in Macy's recommended Lieber's and I'm grateful they did! I got my husband a stylish bag that was work appropriate but didn't look old school. It was also under $100 so my wallet was happy. The staff was super helpful in finding several different bags for me to compare. They also have a lot of little nick-knack gifts and travel items I want to go back and get. And the best part: they wrapped the bag for me so it looked beautiful under the tree. I've had a climbing crash pad repaired at Liebers, and they charged me $40 for a job that included materials, multiple stitches, and probably about an hour of work all told. I was happy to pay it. So when I had one small, broken strap on my Osprey backpack, I thought this would be super easy, and am happy to throw some business To my surprise, these guys wanted to charge me $25 for what turned out to be about a five minute job when I finally found someone reasonable. Liebers told me the base charge for any repair was 15. When asked what the extra ten would be for, I was told it would be for extra work. So I asked what the base price covered. They said it was only to get my item in the door. I expressed to them that that price didn't really make sense to me, as my $15 should buy something, and they said it was for labor. So I asked if the extra ten was for materials ($10 of thread?). They insisted that $25 was the least they would do it for. I asked how long it would take. The seamstress, who was clearly already frustrated that I was asking for an accounting of what I was paying for (saying usually at a mechanic for ex., they tell you their base price, which is then subtracted from a total based on an hourly rate/materials, etc.), told me that if she couldn't get to it that afternoon, it would be 5-10 business days (which also didn't make any sense, the disparity between this afternoon and 5-10 business days). At this point, it seemed like they weren't interested in my business at all (which is a shame, because I've spent hundreds here over the years). I walked out and the next day I had the exact same repair done in 5 minutes by a nice guy with a luggage repair shop, right in front of me, for $10.79. 10/10 def recommend the guy in nob hill with the luggage repair shop over liebers. I expected that a luggage place would have a wide price range and selection of items. However they did not. The staff was very friendly. I did go in looking for a specific type of roller bag and there was nothing available for me to compare to much less buy. They carry many high end items but for a frequent traveler who knows that the airline will not take care of your luggage, I'm not willing to spend a money at a higher price point than the airline is willing to reimburse for damage or lost luggage. read more

Wow. I am very impressed. Recently I've started traveling a lot more for work. My faithful old Lands End rollaboard is wearing out quickly. I figured I'd look up a few reviews for "best carryon luggage" and buy my favorite from Amazon, hoping that the luggage would last ~5 years. Then I found out about Lieber's. If I'm going to spend the money to get something durable I'd much rather spend the money locally and talk to someone who can advise me better than a web site. Wow. Advise me they did. Hunter took the time to figure out what I was looking for, starting with what I said I wanted and exploring from there to find out what I really needed. That was a lot more important than it probably sounds from my terse description. Then he did the same for my wife who had come with me. We never once felt rushed despite the fact that it was almost closing time on Friday. We came away with luggage that we were are very happy with. I put it to the test immediately: the next morning I left on a week-long business trip, and thanks to the new gear, I had everything I needed with me when a thunderstorm stranded me in Dallas overnight. The gear we bought was not inexpensive. As they said in the store, "If you're looking for a deal on 5 pieces for $150, respectfully, you'll do better looking somewhere else." However, it was the *right* gear, backed by outstanding service, and I don't regret a penny of it. The next time a piece of travel gear wears out I know where I'm going. read more

Went to Lieber's to specifically buy a carry on garment bag and the man who sold me this great looking bag assured me that "yes"- its a carry on bag. Well, low and behold it wasn't and as I wheeled my bag into the plane it was taken from me and put into cargo- not a big deal, right? Except why spend $177.00 on a bag that doesnt do what you are told it does. When I called Liebers to explain and to request a refund because I dont need this bag, I was told that I could have store credit. Think thats fair? I think not. It isnt that I changed my mind, its that they wanted a sale. They get my $170 no matter how you slice it. Not cool at all. read more

I took my old Hartmann locked briefcase so Lieber can open and tell me the combination. Since their minimum is $15, we agreed on the repair cost. Before I reached my office, there was a call from Lieber that they opened the briefcase on their first try thus there will not be any charges. It was very refreshing experience. read more

A very BAD experience! This retail store is very expensive-highest prices in Albuquerque. I bought a bag there a few years ago, on sale. It worked OK. Recently took the bag in to have a tab (not zipper) replaced as it broke off, along with two other bags not purchased there. One bag needed stitching in 2 places, each about 2" long and the third also needed a new pull tab (not zipper). Imagine my shock when the bill came to $75 plus tax. WOW! Two tabs and two stiches. $75 +... I was told it was $15 minimum per bag, they charged me $20 each for the two tabs & $35 for the stitching. When I complained about the cost they took off $5 for each pull Tab so now bill came $69.75. Wow!!! Still very steep. I complained again. To no avail. I paid the $70, told them I would not be back and the store would not receive recommendations from me.The repair person then got vulgar and told me to get the FxxK out of his store. Needless to say I will not be back nor will I recommend this establishment to any one. Check the internet. There are plenty of places to go to for luggage repair at a fair price and luggage at a good, reasonable price. read more
