A must-see for hat aficionados…read more Stopped by the north-east corner of Georgetown's downtown squad and visited Nathaniel's Custom Hats to see what it's about - and it's quite an establishment. The hats you see in the store start at around $500 and are all custom made. It's owned and run by Native American Master Hatter Nate Funmaker. He's been named "Best Living Hat Maker" by True West Magazine. Nate's hats are constructed on vintage equipment, including a 100-year old hat 'measurer' that you sit on your head to get exact measurements for the hat maker. His work reminds me of the hat my mother left me - it was custom made for her 60 years ago and still looks new. Most of the hats are Western style, with Stetsons and others predominating. I looked at the neck and side seams and couldn't find a care tag. I washed cold/cold on delicate and hung it straight out of the washer. I saw it had shrunk so much, but I was able to stretch it (it was make of crinkly material) after I put it on, and was able to wear it but it ripped up the back seam the first time I wore it after washing it once. I wasn't even aware there was a back seam (bad place for one, IMO) - and that's when I found the care tag - DRY CLEAN!!!! Not sure why it shrunk so much since I washed it on delicate and with cold water. Just be sure to check your tags. I wish I had. I typically won't buy anything if it's dry clean only, but who would ever think a swimsuit cover up would be dry clean only?

They had a sale rack outside the front that caught my attention and I found an absolutely gorgeous skirt that was 30% off! It ended up only being $13.57 total, so of course I bought it after trying it on in their dressing rooms and browsed the rest of the store. Like any store of this kind things are marked fairly high, but they are quality items and the sale rack deal alone will bring me back to this shop on another market day. There were 3-4 women asking if people needed help and checking customers out behind the register. I didn't feel pressured to purchase anything I tried out and they gave suggestions on other items that would go with things I had chosen which I appreciated.
