I came by today to purchase a cake for a co-worker's birthday with high hopes from all the great reviews and ended up leaving with a $70 cake that fell apart with every slice. It has potential because the flavor was good but, the layer of cream was thick and solid, the cake was dry so it kept falling apart as I was trying to cut pieces for everyone. Not worth the $70 unfortunately. I'm disappointed to say the least, I really wanted to like this place.

I needed a distinctive birthday cake. I checked Lido. The counterperson gave me good recommendations. I decided on a beautiful Almond Rocco chocolate cake. It looked great and tasted even better. Highly recommended.

We ordered a white cake with raspberry and white chocolate mousse filling from Lido Bakery, and it was an absolute hit! Everyone loved it -- perfectly moist, flavorful, and not overly sweet. The cake turned out larger than expected (a wonderful surprise!) and was beautifully decorated, even though I didn't get a chance to take a photo of it whole before it disappeared. You can really taste the quality and care they put into their work. I'll definitely be ordering from Lido again for future celebrations!

this past february, i wanted to do something special to celebrate my boyfriend's late mother, alma rosa, on her birthday, 2/28. she passed away 11 years ago, and they were incredibly close. her sudden death was really hard, and i wanted to honor her memory in a meaningful way. when she was alive, they used to celebrate her birthday as a family with sweet lady jane's famous triple berry cake. my plan was to get that same cake for him, but i was heartbroken to learn the bakery had announced it was going out of business. determined to find a way, i started researching and stumbled upon an article that mentioned lido bakery in manhattan beach. to my surprise, i learned they're actually the original creators of the triple berry cake! it's a small, family-owned bakery, and i knew i had to get it from there. the morning of her birthday, i left work (with my best friend as my partner in crime) and made the trip from santa monica to manhattan beach. before heading out, i called the bakery and found out they had just one cake left. i begged them to hold it and raced over. when we arrived, the staff was so kind and accommodating. we shared the story of why this cake was so important, and we were touched to learn the owner herself is the creator of this iconic recipe. the cake was simple yet perfect. the gentleman helping us even offered to write alma rosa's name on it. with a little nudge from my friend, i agreed--and it turned out beautifully. we also picked up fresh red roses & baby's breath on the way home, as red roses always remind my boyfriend of his mother. it felt like everything fell into place--it was truly meant to be. that day was filled with so many special signs that alma rosa was with us, helping to brighten my boyfriend's day. the cake was not only delicious, but it carried so much love and meaning. it's now a tradition--my boyfriend insists we get the cake from lido bakery every year on her birthday. see you in february! thank you, lido bakery, for being part of such a heartfelt moment. your care, kindness, and incredible triple berry cake will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Lido Bakery is the go to for all things lovely in cakes and pastries!!!If you want intricately designed slices of flavorful cake- Lido is it. I ordered two slices of cake a few days ago, and this quaint bakery never fails!! I have been here multiple times and this is customer service at its finest- bakery or cakery perfection!!!All bakery items are fresh and tasty, and the owner is so welcoming and takes pride in pastrycreativity, show stopping desserts and pastries!!! The order- berries and cream cake and dulce de leche cake!!! All I can say is try it for yourself, both slices of cake are truly phenomenal!! Both cakes were light, moist, with additions of fruit or a gracious layer of dulce de leche!!! The cost of cake slices are slightly expensive, but hey, you get what you pay for. You can easily get three slices out of each cake slice. Cheers to Lido for your delicious dedication to all things cake and baked goods!!!

I work for Southwest Airlines and a passenger bag unfortunately didn't make it.. once we let her know her bag made it she was so grateful; SO GRATEFUL SHE BOUGHT US A BOX OF THESE DELICIOUS THREATS. Listen Everyone in the office was smiling from ear to ear. I had the chocolate chip cookie, it was so moist! Not to sweet and had a good amount of chocolate chips: We all literally closed the office doors, we each grabbed a goody and listened to "So This Is Love" while we all smiled and enjoyed our sweet treats. Very short lived moment but very enjoyable. Not sure what everything was, but one pasty had cheese in it (I think, and it too was delicious). They all were super moist, not a pastry left. 10/10

WOW! Ernesto does it right again. Ordered a Nutella cake for hubby's 60th celebration. It was the wow factor at the party. Not only was it delicious, but carefully crafted. Thank you Ernesto and Lido.

[Review #156] 2016 Yelp 100 Challenge (19/100) I've had Lido Bakery flagged for awhile when I was searching for local bakeries for birthday cakes & other baked goodies. It's within a mile of my favorite day spa, but my appointments are mostly on Sundays so I haven't had a chance to stop by. I had a birthday dinner planned for my LO nearby the bakery & thought it would be a convenient pick-up so I bit the bullet & ordered my daughter's birthday cake. I called on Wednesday for a Friday afternoon pick-up, & the person I spoke to said it was no problem. Their most popular/signature flavor was Berries & Cream, & I needed it to serve 14 people so he suggested an 8" cake. I informed him that I've never been here; I said the regular design for the Berries & Cream cake is nice (a garden-like design... berries hanging off vines), but the cake is for a little girl, can you change the decorations to make a couple of pink & purple rosettes & write "happy birthday" in pink icing? He said no worries, I'll make it appropriate for a little girl. Later that day, one of my invitees was available to join us for dinner so I called Lido's that evening to see if I could change the cake size. I believe I spoke to the owner, Ernesto, & he said it was no problem, a 9" will cover 18 people. Really!?! 1" can serve 4 more people? :-O I was skeptical because I've had bakeries make calculation errors & some of my guests ended up without cake. Also, I've never been to this bakery & do not know of anyone who has been here before. I was on my way for pick-up & ran into some traffic. I called to inform them I was running late; Ernesto said he was going to be staying late so take my time & be safe. How considerate is that?! =) I'm loving Lido Bakery more & more, & I haven't even taken a bite yet! I got there 5 minutes before closing, & the cashier quickly pulled my cake from the fridge & showed me the cake before boxing it up. It was a b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l cake!! My baby girl was going to love it!! I saw some delectable-looking cream cheese puffs & bought some for brunch tomorrow. Then I picked up the cake & it weighed like a ton (an exaggeration, of course), but it did have the weight of a 1/2 sheet cake & it was only 9"! :-O My family & friends loved it, especially the birthday girl! Everyone enjoyed the Berries & Cream cake... it was delicious!! At first, I thought the texture was strange because I didn't realized how dense & sugary most cakes are. Lido's cake was more holey, fresh, & lighter than the typical cake. There were 3 layers of fresh & sweet berries & cream: raspberries, blueberries, & strawberries; the cream was rich with just a touch of sweetness perfectly blended with the berries. When I first cut into it, H's Godmama commented, "You bought a fancy wedding cake?" LOL For a simple birthday cake, everyone thought it was fancy enough for a wedding. ;-) Eh... that won't happen for another 20 years or so. Hehehe... Through the remainder of our dinner, my friends kept commenting how much they enjoyed the cake. I think Lido Bakery is going to have some new customers soon. ;-) I wish I had more time to look over LB's goodies. Even though they had a limited selection at closing, I wanted to pick-up a few things. I'll definitely be back for more. My husband's birthday is coming up & I'm hoping to try the white chocolate raspberry in either a cake or cheesecake, lemon raspberry, princess (I'm wondering if this is the Swedish layer cake; then I'm sold), chocolate strawberry, or bananas & cream. Nom, nom, nom, nom, nom... P.S. I tried the cake this morning & it was every bit as good the next day. Lido Bakery definitely takes the cake (literally & figuratively)!! ;-) read more

Lido Bakery made the most amazing chocolate naked cake for my daughter's ninth birthday. Not one piece was left and all of the birthday guests made sure to tell me it is some of the best cake they have ever had; even non eating cake people had a piece and said it was amazing. I can't imagine ever ordering a cake from anywhere else. I ordered a 10" for 8 people because I knew that it would be devoured. The berry cake from this place is absolutely delicious. Super fresh ingredients. The whipped buttercream (or whatever icing it is on the berries cake) is sooooo f'ing YUMMY that I could eat a tub of it. It's the perfect balance of smooth, creamy and sweet that you don't feel like you're eating a pound of sugar and/or butter. I used to order cakes from Essential Chocolates in Culver City, but Lido is my new GO-TO. Lido is always willing to take orders...even on the fly. I needed a cake for a birthday party and called in less than an hour before I had to be at the party - Lido to the rescue! Done in 25 min! Whaaaat? What other bakery will do that for you? Only downside is that they are closed on Sunday. Womp womp. Oh, and Lido may want some better help up front. I agree with other reviews that the girls who work up front and take calls are rude and not helpful at all. It's a good thing the cakes here are so good that patrons are able to look past the bad help. read more

I've purchased a few over the counter cakes from here over the years, but never have I custom ordered one before. There was a cake a had in mind with a couple of adjustments... I was able to talk and text with Ernesto, with what I wanted and he exceeded all expectations. The cake turned out amazing! So much effort and detail, and it was a hit. So cute, everyone LOVED it. I had such a pleasant experience working with Lido Bakery and Ernesto to make my gender reveal cake. We decided to find out the gender as a family together, and that meant we (mom and dad) wouldn't find out until then as well. Other bakeries needed at least three days notice and lead time to make the cake and we didn't want to wait that long. Ernesto and team let us know that they could turn over a custom cake for the same day! I had asked for whatever was the easiest cake to make it, just to be able to get the cake back quickly. I was so surprised at the craftsmanship and detail that was put into our cake with such short notice. Not only was the cake beautiful and custom, but was delicious as well! Every year for the last 12 years, we make the trek from the OC to get a 10 in Berries and Cream. I've had many but Lido's is the best. Freshest fruit... best taste. Today I went to pick up a cake for the kid's birthday. I had a slice of flan. Literally, the best flan I've ever had and I'm Filipino. I know my flan. Sweet but not too sweet. Coconut flakes on the bottom. Just Delicious.... Also the people are so nice. read more

Unbelievable !!!delicious!!!! incredible!!!!!! that was the best cakes and flan that I had in a loooong time. Everybody love it!!!the fruits cake moist and delicious dulce the leche just sweet enough and the flan fresh my commitment to the gym won't let me be there as often as my cravings would like to. Best bakery in Southbay. The croissants are so good they're almost offensive. Their triple berry cake is far better than that of Sweet Lady Jane off Melrose in West Hollywood. Everything is. Only complaint is that they're not open at 7:30am when I head into work and by the time I get there later in the day all the croissants have been snagged by other customers (those bastards). ...so I buy a slice of cake instead. :) Love this place!!! read more

Great pecan pie. I go into work before they open and come home after they are closed so they worked with me to get the pie for my husband's birthday by leaving it next door at the sushi place... pretty awesome service. I have to say, I'm from a small town and talking to them/working with them felt like a small town operation. Will definitely be going back and would recommend them to anyone! read more

Very professional, talented and nice people! I was looking for a specific cake decorations and I could not find anything already made. On a Wednesday afternoon I talked to Lido Bakery for a custom made decoration to be ready on a Friday! I was in a rush... and after back and forth conversations they agreed to help me! Even if they were busy with other orders. Not only they were extremely nice but they are extremely talented! I show them few pictures of the ideas I had and the result was beautiful! The cake was terrible. I ordered the berries and cream yellow cake. It was very oily and fell apart as soon as you cut it. It tasted very soggy and as if it had been in the fridge for days.I wish l took a picture of the inside but some of the photos on some of the reviews look similar to ours.The cake was very beautiful to look at but taste was terrible read more

Everything looked so tasty. So I chose 4 items which totalled a little over $29. I asked for only cake with buttercream. Lemon and raspberry cake - buttercream was very lightly sweetened. The lemon was yummy and tart. Raspberry was mixed with cream. Overall, tastes compliment one another nicely. The cake however, was crumbly and not moist or fluffy which was disappointing. The infamous almond roca cake - the slightest taste of coffee. A pleasant dark chocolate ganache. Almond crumble was delicious. The chocolate cake was also dense and crumbly. Apricot tart - I have yet to try it. Looks amazing but I'm not going to get my Hopes up as I was disappointed by the other two confections. Cheesecake - was purchased for my mom. Overall if you are a person that isnt fond of very sweet confections this would be the place for you. Unfortunately, my family weren't fans of Lido's bakery. read more

GET A CREAMCHEESEPUFF!!! So light and perfect and slightly lemony. A yummy treat for $1.00!!! We also got a couple of rugelach cookies- one plain and one chocolate drizzled. Both really good. Their cakes looked delicious and beautiful. at $6 per huge slice, i'll definitely come back to try some of their cakes. They seem quite popular as we saw two couples doing wedding cake testings. If you aren't a cake person like me... this is THE exception. And when I say THE, I mean the berries cake. So good. So fresh. & I'm so glad I found this place for my wedding. (Kinda last minute if you ask me, which is another plus in my book.) Not only was the cake delicious, but the finish on my cake design was spot on! I asked for an ombré look, through inspiration pictures with a specific finish. He delivered. Ernesto is the man! Such a nice guy. This post is long overdue, but I'm glad it's finally up. Staff is super friendly.. Gentleman at the counter gave me coconut and fruit cake sample because I couldn't decide. Super nice and GENEROUS samples. I loved both!!! Ended up with the fruit to make sure most of my guest won't be disappointed.... But I'll be back for the coconut cake. read more

Two words: Berries and Cream. I guess thats three words. Anyway, the berries and cream cake from this bakery is my go-to cake for every special occasion in my life and or any time I'm in charge of bringing a cake. If I'm bringing cake, its Lido Bakery's berries and cream. Why? Because its gorgeous and tastes amazing! Light, fluffy, creamy and perfect, everyone always LOVES this cake and thinks I'm a genius for having bought it. Lido sells various cookies and treats like brownies, flan, fruit tarts and other cakes as you can see from reading the other reviews, but I wouldn't know about those cakes because I stick to my favorite one. As a huge fan of Sweet Lady Jane, I was seriously shocked how disappointing Lido Bakery was ... since Lido is supposed to be connected with SLJ. Three major disappointments during our visit to Lido on Saturday: poor and unfriendly service, dry cake, and no place to eat the cake. The poor service might of been due to our use of Groupon, but that doesn't serve as an excuse for me. A female server smiled and asked if she could help as we looked at the unlabeled cake choices in the display counter. Her smile changed when we said we had a Groupon as she replied, "he'll help you..." and pointed to a male employee. He came over and said we could have any of the cakes in the middle rack, but didn't describe what any of them were. No worries, since we love the SLJ Triple Berry, let's get that. He quickly cut a slice, put it in a box, and handed it to us. The sad thing is that I also wanted to get a slice of Red Velvet and another Triple Berry to go, however, he just turned around and walked away. Ok, guess I don't want those. We grabbed our own napkins and plastic forks since we were having the cake for dessert. Because there were already two couples there enjoying what appeared to be free tastings for a wedding or something, both tiny tables and all four chairs were taken. We looked around for another place to sit, but eventually ended up eating the cake in the front seat of our car. Pretty lame. The final problem was that the cake-portion of the slice of Triple Berry Cake was extremely dry. The frosting was magical. The berries were divine. However, the cake portions were dry and didn't have the right texture at all. How can this be the same cake as what we love at SLJ? Too many nearby choices offer larger, better slices of cake at comparable prices and amazing service to offer me much of a reason to return. After months of bookmarking Lido thanks to recommendations and Groupon, it was a major let down. read more

Lido Bakery has been on my bookmarks list forEVER! after I heard that the baker here does the Sweet Lady Jane Triple Berry cake - which is MY ALL TIME FAVE CAKE! So today when I was in the area, I decided to pop on by. When I walked in, baker extraordinaire Ernesto greeted me warmly and answered a bunch of questions I had about the yummies in the bakery case. I was SO happy when I asked him if he had anything banana, and he said that he was just finishing a banana cake - if I could only wait 10 minutes! Woooohoooooo!!!!! He made me a decaf Americano, and then went in the back to finish the banana cake - which gave me time to take pics and study up on what else I wanted from the case : P. About 10 minutes later, he came out with a gorgeous cake, frosted in fluffy whipped cream icing, with chocolate ganache on top. He sliced into it and cut me a big slice, and explained that it was yellow cake, whipped cream icing, chocolate ganache and sliced fresh bananas. At $6 a slice, this baby was gorgeous and freshly made! The cake had a tender and soft crumb, and the whipped frosting and ganache were creamy and smooth. The bananas made it just banana-y enough, and together they were the perfect not-overly-sweet dessert! There were a few things in the case that I would have LIKED to have, but I had to restrain myself so I made a mental note for next time (Strawberry Napoleon, Chocolate Rugelach, Vanilla cupcake, and of course my fave Triple Berry cake). I did end up getting: Lemon Bar ($1.75) - caramelized edges, zesty lemon curd with super thin zest slivers embedded in the top, shortbread crust, mmmmmm..... Cream Cheese puff ($1) - this looked like a Kouign Ammans, but it was a pastry dough with a slightly sweetened cream cheese center and lemon zest. Yum! Red Velvet cupcake ($2.50) - soft crumb, deep and dark crimson red cake, fresh and soft, perfectly sweet cream cheese icing with a squiggle of chocolate icing and a sprinkle of red sanding sugar on top! Gorgeous to look at, and DEEELISH!!! Based on what I tried today, I'm glad I don't live closer.....because I'd be here every day if I did!!! read more

5 plus! Lido's is nestled in a small strip mall across the street from Manhattan Village. I met master baker Ernesto when I first got to Manhattan Beach 18 months ago. I was in the hunt for a Pilates studio nearby and decided to take a detour into his store. I'm so glad I did too. The bakery cases are generally filled to the brim with delectable delicacies. The case on the left has an assortment of baked goods. The croissants are ginormous in size. If you choose one with a filling, you'll be pleasantly surprised. The fillings are succulent and abundant. I tried their apple croissant this afternoon. I've had their plain as well as almond croissants too. The dough is flaky and buttery. One croissant is large enough to share. Ernesto has a wide variety of other taste treats in the case to the right. Be sure to always check the top of the case as that is where they display their sample tray. I had to ask for seconds on the pumpkin pie. I had to confirm that my taste buds were accurate. Wow, absolutely über heavenly. At this case, you can order slices of a wide assortment of cakes and pies. I once purchased their signature apple pie. I swear this pie weighed 5 pounds and was filled with over one dozen apples. Small gem in a strip mall (easy parking! always a plus). I came in for a slice of their berries (strawberry and blueberry) and buttercream cake. Had it in cupcake form at a special birthday party a few years ago. Both are amazing. All of the pastries taste so fresh and the cake is so light. The cake was a little soggy, probably from the middle layer of icing and berries than the cupcake. Next day cake from the fridge tastes perfect. The vanilla cupcakes with icing and berries on top and berries baked in are the best~~!! Still I enjoyed sharing the huge slice of cake. It's $7 but is nearly two slices. Seems like the cakes are pricey but the small pastries are reasonably priced. Either way the ingredients are high quality and fresh. The service is great. The man behind the counter who helped me offered a sample of their apricot almond tart. Glad I had one since I realized the apricot is dried. The Mexican wedding cake and raspberry Linzer cookies were good. The chocolate rugelach and raspberry rugelach were awesome! I came too late for a croissant. They were gone before noonish on a Saturday. I need to find more reasons to go to MB so I can try more goodies at Lido's. If you have a special order for a cake, like a Mickey Mouse silhouette-themed one that looked amazing, give them 2 weeks' notice. Clemenza in the Godfather had it right when during a mafia hit he says "Leave the gun, take the Connolly". That's a guy who knows the importance of some deliciously baked goods. At the scene of the crime he still has the clarity to know that you never pass up tasty treats. Before I'm about to make "hits" of my own in the Manhattan Beach area - I always make it a point to stop by Lido's Bakery. I only like fresh desserts. Anyone who skips over bakeries and buys their sweets at grocery chains doesn't know what they are missing and deserves to be on the other end of Clemenza's - hit. I've tried a bunch of the bakeries in MB and HB area but only go back to one... Lido's. I like to think I'm easy to please. All I ask is for fresh products, and the right consistency of sweetness - sweet but not too sweet. Also, the people who run this bakery are some of the nicest people you'll ever talk to. My "Hit-list" looks like this: 1) Chocolate Chip Cookies 2) Mexican Wedding Balls - never heard of these until Lido's, yummm. 3) Date Bars - the healthier side of sweetness, they taste so good 4) Apricot Bars - Love apricots - is there an emoticon for licking your lips? Lido was a dud. The cake and cupcake I tried with a friend really weren't very good. It's like we went to the wrong location after reading these reviews. How could this be the same place? 3 negatives. It should really be 1 star The service was very cold and did not want to help us choose our cakes. I'm not sure if they were busy doing something else or he was uncomfortable with my skin color which my friend felt. Either way, it came across as very rude. It's our first time in your tiny bakery. Can you help? The triple berry cake was the recommendation from Yelp. Bad Yelp. Bad. The slice was big, but the cake was dry. Really dry. And the frosting seemed sour. Is that possible? A red velvet cake was her choice. She frowned after biting into it and asked me to try. I've only had red velvet 3 times and this one didn't taste delicious like the others. She didn't finish the cupcake. Lido is small. Too small to be a date or dessert place. We had to stand up to wait until one of the tables was available. Only come here if you are getting dessert to go. To be honest, I don't recommend coming here. Try a place with better selection, much better service, and an atmosphere so you can relax and enjoy the bakery. read more

I've been a regular customer at Lido's Bakery ever since they opened. I'm not much of a cook and I definitely don't bake, so every time I'm required to bring something to a party or a dinner, I always go to Lido's where their goods never disappoint. If I'm really organized, I'll call ahead and tell the very friendly staff there what it is that I'd like to order but, more often than not, I just drop in and pick up a variety of treats, like cream cheese puffs, lemon bars, cupcakes, or sometimes entire cakes. If you've never tried Lido's Berries and Cream cake you're really missing out--a perfect combination of creamy, buttery goodness. I think what makes Lido's so amazing is that Ernesto and his mother really love what they do. You can just tell when you talk to them or go in to see them that they've found their passion. They want to make their customers happy and keep them coming back. As long as they're in business, I'll always be a loyal customer of Lido's. read more

I popped in at noon on a Friday to pick up a few treats for the weekend. Sadly, these treats will never see the weekend because my curiosity got the best of me and I tried a little of the chocolate strawberry cake. And since that was so delicious I decided it would be irresponsible to not also test the dulce de leche cake. And since THAT was so delicious, I had to try the chocolate strawberry cake again to confirm whether the dulce de leche cake is really truly a tiny bit more amazing. But I wasn't totally sure, so I had another bite of the dulce de leche to compare. Just as I was about to declare my hypothesis with 100% certainty, I got cold feet and wanted reassurance so I took one more bite of each. What happened? Last time I was here I had their carrot cake which was really good, moist with just the right amount of spice. Then past this weekend, I went to a party and they served their famous "strawberry shortcake" ala Sweet Lady Jane's. The cake was dry and felt "grainy" upon tasting. Admittedly I work here, not blood related. Writing to highlight the Valenzuelas who own it. Mom and pop let me come in the mornings as a child to learn baking (and Spanish). Can say firsthand their recipes/ingredients have not changed since they opened. They also make sure you to get your money's worth of portions (I'll get told off if I don't cut a big enough slice for a customer). The Valenzuelas get to know their customers like family, they're a second family to me. They are authentic, personable, and passionate - it shines through in their products. read more

They could not help themselves to another slice and most times people do not want to get second slices at a birthday party because cakes are sometimes horrible if they are store bought. I was running late for work one morning and decided to try this place out. I have been hooked ever since!! Though I've never tried the cakes, I just cant get past the pastries!! My favorites are the cream cheese puffs and the apricot crescents. My mouth is just watering as I write this......okay, go try it out cause I'm on my way now!!! read more

Have had takeaway from here twice and will return tonight to the dine in restaurant. The clam chowder in a sour dough roll is the best soup and bread bowl meal you will have. Our children had the sour dough base pizza and said it was the best pizza they had eaten. I cannot rave about this enough. Fantastic experience. read more

I don't make it up to Manhattan Beach all that often, but when I do - Lido Bakery is on my must stop in list. I try to always come home packing something sweet to bring home for the family. Lido has a very fun outdoor patio to enjoy lunch. We walked here after shopping down the street and enjoyed the ambiance and food. The meal was healthy and not too heavy. Thank you very much. read more
