This is a nice Tesco store, although it is small, especially for a "Tesco Superstore", the store…read morestill looks and feels new as it was refurbished towards the end of 2019, after being converted from a Jack's store (Tesco's failed attempt to create a budget supermarket brand to compete with Aldi and Lidl). It is located in the Rossendale town of Rawtenstall on Bocholt Way. They have the handheld Scan as You Shop Scanners here which was a pleasant surprise, most Tesco stores have them now but it never said they did online, so I presume they are a new addition. I like how this store is located with views of the river, this does mean the only way to access it as a pedestrian is via a very small and narrow bridge, this could be a nightmare to cross in the dark as it isn't very well lit, it could also be a problem if you need extra space to cross. I did find the whole of Rawtenstall to be pretty poor for pedestrian access anyway. The product ranges is OK, I couldn't find what I was looking for, but most items you'd expect to find here were on offer in some shape or form, which is of course supported by many other supermarkets also within Rawtenstall town centre including Iceland, Marks and Spencer, Aldi, Lidl and ASDA, the latter is the only store bigger than this one, as many of them are pretty small. 3* - I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here again, but it isn't too bad.

It looks pleasant from the outside, but on the inside, it's a typical Aldi. I do think the selection was worse than the other supermarkets and similar stores nearby, and this is one of the poorer stores in the area in that regard. The checkout area was a mess (the store overall could have been a little cleaner too) especially, despite having large queues, they didn't seem to be adding any more checkouts on, this meant it was really difficult for me to leave the store as you have to go out through the checkouts due to the one-way system, which means they've also turned the doors off meaning you couldn't get out the other way, even if you wanted too. The staff seemed disinterested and unfriendly, the store wasn't overly busier but a lack of organisation and management meant they struggled to cope, compared to the other nearby food stores (where I will go in the future), which dealt with a similar number of people just fine. If you're looking for a discount supermarket, Lidl nearby is a little better. 2*

ASDA's Rawtenstall supermarket is a pretty strange set-up, it is over two floors, with the…read moregroceries on the upper level, and the home department on the lower level, which is the first time I have seen two separate floors (compared to having a higher balcony style level) at an ASDA before. The store did seem old-fashioned and a little dated at times, it seems to be crying out in need of a refurb, especially as you go into the store on the lower level with an old, slow lift or steep travellator. I did find the stock in store, to be a little disappointing for the store of the size and I couldn't find even half of the items which I was looking for. The staff seemed friendly enough, other than the security who were rude and seemed to be openly trying their best to intimidate and start problems with customers, this seems to be an issue expressed in other reviews too. 2*

A decent-sized M&S Foodhall, located in Rawtenstall as part of the retail area on New Hall Hey…read more It's pretty difficult to get to as a pedestrian, but if you're driving there is a large car park which is shared with the other nearby stores, including TK Maxx which is next store. The product range was fine for a Food Hall, a little limited in some areas. The store could have been cleaner, they seemed to leave empty warehouse cages blocking part of the store which meant I couldn't view certain sections, I think this is lazy, I pushed one out of the way slightly only for it to keep rolling down the store. The checkout area was a little messy and the queuing seemed to go down some of the aisles again, this could have been managed better. 3* - The product range is good for a Food Hall if you're in a car and willing to brace a slightly messy store (Not common for a high-end brand like Marks and Spencer), then feel free to visit here, if not you might want to go to a larger and better store such as in Manchester or Burnley.
