The first impression is that Lida Food is a cheap supermarket with a very wide range of products. Especially cookies and dried foods are cheap. However, there is hardly any meat offered. After having shopped here several times during the past few months, I experienced the following issues in this supermarket.
1) If you want to pay with either a credit card or a non-Belgian card (both credit and debit card), you need to pay an extra fee. This fee varies every time I go shopping there, and it seems as if they are randomly putting a number on their keyboard, just to get some extra money out from you.
2) If you buy less than a €10, you need to another additional fee if you pay with a payment card (either credit or debit card). This does not make sense, because the processing costs of payments are negligible and so much lower than handling and securing large amounts of cash at the register.
3) The prices listed in the supermarket are often not the same ones as the ones counted at the register. This is pure cheating and you can comment them about it, but I have never received a reimbursement after having noticed discrepancies on my ticket after having paid (they do not have a screen on which you can follow how much they are counting for each product while screening the bars).
4) in about half of the cases, there was nobody at the cash register. I had to walk around in the supermarket to find someone who could come with me to the register, so I could pay.
5) the quality of their fruits and vegetables is bad, and the non-food products are terribly overpriced. There are four supermarkets in the neighbourhood that offer much lower prices and better quality (oh, and those supermarkets don't share above-mentioned points!).
In sum, this is a bad place to do your groceries, especially if think it is important to know beforehand what you need to pay for a product. There are much better supermarkets at a distance less than 100m away. read more
