They had a couple people working the DL desk and they were busy with other patrons when I sat down after checking in. You do stand in line for a bit to get checked in to make sure you have all the required documents needed for them to perform the service you're requesting and I think that helps to streamline and shorten the wait after getting checked in. I did my due diligence and already had a REAL ID license so my experience was pretty low-key. The woman who helped me through the process was kind and generally in a good mood. The other woman working the DL desk also seemed friendly. I know people don't really have much of a choice when it comes to having to do business at the DMV, but most of my experiences have been good here in St Joe, aside from the occasionally long waiting times. My only recommendation is that they offer a mirror to do a quick check prior to sitting down for the photo, which I thought they had in the past but maybe I'm misremembering that. Also, there is some signage on the doors to scan a QR code to keep tabs on where you are in line, but I didn't see a QR code anywhere, so that was a little confusing. The place is also a bit rundown, but I don't have high expectations for places like this, so no surprise there.

A month ago I realized my license had expired. I dreaded going to the drivers license office…read morebecause of the hassle. Long lines. Waiting. Waiting. I didn't find any of that on my trip. They have redone the building since Covid and it's brighter, more user friendly and less waiting! There is a front desk and a person directs you to where you need to go. They have big monitors so you can see your number and wait time on the screen. Very fancy! The examiner was very nice and cordial. It was a quick, easy process and even enjoyable. Next time I won't be so reluctant to get my license renewed. There is plenty of parking and the building is easily accessible. There was also plenty of seating in the waiting area.

Why don't they just close from noon to 1pm for the lunch break? But that was not the biggest frustration! I spent over 1.5 hrs waiting, because nobody told me they had a power outage in the morning and were backed up with processing. If I knew that -- I would have left and come other day. I was just one number up from the last number called relatively shortly after I arrived for "R" - but suddenly they started to call numbers for a letter "K" at the front and I had no idea why.

Either the lines are long, the staff is unfriendly or I forget something crucial, which makes the experience horrible and leaves my day completely ruined. However, this DMV is quite the opposite! I got to their location soon after opening and there were about four people ahead of me, resulting in about a 10 minute wait. The staff member assisting me was great and made the process as easy as possible, even though there was a slight issue (important to note it was nothing that I contributed to, ha!). She quickly resolved it, gave me my tags and sent me on my way. I was in and out in about 20 minutes flat. How simple is that?! As long as I'm in driving distance to this location, it'll be my goto place. My faith in humanity has been restored ;)

If you have to go here, make sure Nicole is not the one helping you! She has a horrible attitude and is just downright nasty and hateful. Had no problem telling me wrong information about proof of residency and sending me all over to get unnecessary paperwork only then to say that she could not accept my daughters passport as a form of ID!!! If this Nicole is the representation of Platte City and the Dept of Motor Vehicles, then this state is in a world more trouble than we think!! Of course no manager or supervisor (according to Nicole) was in the office that I could speak too.
