A month ago I realized my license had expired. I dreaded going to the drivers license office because of the hassle. Long lines. Waiting. Waiting. I didn't find any of that on my trip. They have redone the building since Covid and it's brighter, more user friendly and less waiting! There is a front desk and a person directs you to where you need to go. They have big monitors so you can see your number and wait time on the screen. Very fancy! The examiner was very nice and cordial. It was a quick, easy process and even enjoyable. Next time I won't be so reluctant to get my license renewed. There is plenty of parking and the building is easily accessible. There was also plenty of seating in the waiting area. read more

Horrible! First -- the place hours give you the impression they are open trough the lunch hours, but it went down to just 1-2 stations open. Why don't they just close from noon to 1pm for the lunch break? But that was not the biggest frustration! I spent over 1.5 hrs waiting, because nobody told me they had a power outage in the morning and were backed up with processing. If I knew that -- I would have left and come other day. I was just one number up from the last number called relatively shortly after I arrived for "R" - but suddenly they started to call numbers for a letter "K" at the front and I had no idea why. read more

The rudest staff I have ever met. hung up on me for asking her to stop interrupting and to please listen to me because I lost my id and had a simple question. she then refused to answer other phone calls. I will be coming in person to speak to your face. don't get a job if you're too lazy to do it. read more

I mean what can you expect from the state of Kansas? We all need a valid drivers license or state identification to do anything now days. Unfortunately the working conditions don't seem to be the greatest for the employees. Small cubicles for everyone and they sit at every other desk so there isn't much privacy. The front desk worker was filling in for the usual person, but she was definitely the sweetest person ever and kindly informed me that I will need more documentation before I could receive a ticket. Sadly her name has slipped my mind. Jeff was the associate that helped me get my new license and he was very soft spoken, which I prefer at a place like this. The process lasted about 15-20 minutes and I'm just guessing he wanted to do a thorough job so I won't complain. read more

I'm not sure where they find these incredibly unhappy employees. Perhaps they become that way after working there. The good part was the wait was minimal; the flip side was the rude and unprofessional staff. Not a smile, not an acknowledgement of customers presence. Staff accusatorily questioned I wasn't wearing glasses last renewal- uhh recent double vision from MS is the reason. Watched a lady in a walker treated rudely by the employee with shaved head. On another note, the security officer was pleasant and friendly. When I left, I thanked him for his friendliness! read more

After my scathing review of a few years ago, the state of Kansas completely revamped the Lawrence DL office, in it's place a spacious new office with lots of room to spread out and many more stations, equaling much less wait times. Although, to be fair, you still have to go next door to use the toilet. OK... that's probably not true about them revamping their offices based on my one-star review. But it's true, this place is now a good 100% better. Mainly reviewing for this tip: read it and save yourself a bunch of time. Once you get your appointment, when you walk in at the time assigned, bypass the big long line of people looking disgusted at the experience and get your ticket for when they call your name. It'll save you a *bunch* of time. I walked in ahead of a friend who was doing a walk-in. They were still waiting when I left. Oh, and know this: if your Kansas drivers license doesn't have gold star in the upper right-hand corner, you'll be denied getting on domestic flights starting this Fall. For the best service schedule an appointment. You are in and out within 15 minutes. Don't try and come during lunch hour which is 11 to 1, as the office doesn't close and they do stagger the lunch. Resulting in longer wait times for walkins. read more

After several tries to get a drivers test they decided not to except a form from Arizona stating that he had paid his fine and does nothing. All other states except this form. Now they are requiring that he goes to DMV Arizona and get a print out of his driving record. This is insane because he had one ticket it's taken care of and he was simply driving through Arizona. When we called Arizona and ask them for a separate letter stating the above they said "What kind of state are you dealing with." Obviously we're not dealing with the state who has updated computers that could read that he had already paid his fine and his reinstatement because the ticket was in the 1990s! read more

Hire some staff ! Have appt waiting forever and only two people actually helping , so slow

My girlfriend was having some issues with her driver's license, so we had to go to Topeka, to several agencies. The lady here was so nice and helpful, so even called another agency and waited 15 minutes on hold. She was so helpful I even wrote a letter to the DVM. read more

This is a horrid location. Awful chairs, no restroom inside, lackluster air conditioning. The staff are efficient & nice, though. Considering the sheer number of people they have to deal who can't follow simple instructions, they're awfully patient. read more

Brenda at the DMV has a terrible attitude and a condescending tone. From the very start, she cut me off, interrupted, and was very impatient. I hope you do not have to deal with her!!! I had to twice and the second time was just as bad. Its hard to make a trip to the DMV worse than it already is, but Brenda managed to help do so. read more

Great location, solid staff. The interior has been recently remodeled and the new system of having a waiting space behind the front desk helps to keep people who don't have the required documents from holding up the line. Great system, great location, great layout. Best experience I've had with a DMV. read more

Told wrong information multiple times, when you try to call it's always busy(been like this for months)...not everyone can afford to drive all the way across town to get an answer to a question following a substantial wait. Ok it was real estate the state of Kansas took advantage of but to me that's sustainability. Every person I spoke to, and I made several trips because of paperwork was friendly and helpful. I waited in line once in the morning and then got in a priority line after. They were friendly and definitely customer oriented. They probably deal with a lot of stupid stuff too. Not only were they helpful to me but I witnessed them giving excellent customer service to others, both in person and on the phone. And my job is customer service based so I appreciate being taking care of. read more
