So it's fairly small, it's well-preserved, and it's not all that interactive. But so what? We don't have to touch *everything* or be entertained by multimedia. It's a living tribute to a great Kansan. For starters, just get a gander at the big Missouri River just across the street. Imagine growing up with that view and access! Drop your $15, or whatever level you're at, and enjoy browsing the history. The preservation of original artifacts coupled with Earhart memorabilia makes for an extremely interesting walk back in time. The preservation of the dining room is sensational, with outstanding stained glass facing just northeast. As you meander through the various rooms, you are struck by how curious Amelia Earhart appears to have been at such a young age! Whether it was her literary exposure, fascinations with flight, or mild departure from other feminine constructs, Amelia was special from the jump. The museum is easy to navigate and generally accessible. Parking is easy, the gift shop is nice, and the staff is friendly and loves to help answer any questions. Amelia was a national celebrity, a pioneer in aviation, and maybe most importantly, a significant figure in gender equality. Learn her story, bask in her roots, and celebrate a great Kansan and woman whose disappearance leaves us all wondering the what ifs. read more

If you love Amelia, I would highly recommend visiting this place! It was so cool and historic to see where this visionary woman lived and spent part of her life! My friend and I got a $6 student discount and did a self guided tour of the place! The paper was a little hard to follow but other than that everyone working there was super nice and it was just fun to be in such a historical place! I got some vintage discontinued Amelia Earhart stamps that they sell at the gift shop but sadly just like Amelia, I accidentally lost them and now they're gone for good :( but enjoy this picture as proof! read more

We were looking for something to do in Atchinson to kill a couple of hours and we discovered the Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum. Being a scientist and a supporter of strong women, it seemed like the thing to do. The house was easy to find with google maps. We walked from Willie's where we ate lunch. The house was beautifully preserved. I liked seeing the formal dining room windows from outside as we approached as well as inside on the tour. The tour is all self guided and you can scan QR code's in each room to get a guided tour. Entry is $8 each which seemed a little steep but if you consider the house and preservation of the items inside it's a small price. Some items are originals, some are replicas, some are memorials of donors but in all, it was a nice representation of items to learn about Amelia, her accomplishments, her life and her disappearance. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I didn't know a ton about Amelia before I entered the house but upon exiting, I truly appreciated what a forward thinking female she was. I bought several postcards to send to friends to commemorate the visit. I'm really glad I was able to learn more about this amazing women. Great stop! read more

What a quaint little museum. It's an old house, so manage your expectations. The woman working was incredibly friendly and proud of the museum. There are lots of cool artifacts supporting the flights and history surrounding Amelia's life. There are also sets of memorabilia from the various movies about her life. Plan to spend about 45 minutes there ( and currently, the hours are pretty limited because of the pandemic). I had a great experience! They have an aweseome student discount, so my friend and I explored the museum for only $6 each. The staff is so welcoming and informative. The house is filled with Amelia Earhart memorabilia and information about her life. It's such a celebratory space for this inspirational figure! The only critique I have is that their guide for the different rooms in the house is very informative, but a bit hard to follow. I wish they had a more visual representation of the house:) read more

What a beautiful place. Just sort of happened across this place on a weekend trip up HWY 7 in Kansas. I was up there for work and decided to take a drive up on a Sunday and stopped in Achison to see the place when we saw the sign. The house is really nice. They have kept it well over the years. There are many different memorabilia items in the house and things are kept to the time period Amelia was alive. I recommend it. It shouldn't take more than an hour and the cost of admission was $5. read more

This was a nice diversion to break up our drive through Kansas. My 3rd grader had studied Amelia Earhart in school, so she was excited to see her birthplace. This was her grandparents' residence, and it was also where she spent her early school years, attending a private school. The house is a lovely Victorian over the Missouri River, and it's kept in great shape. Personal memorabilia and historical photos are throughout each of the rooms (which you visit on a self-guided tour). It's fair to say there's not a lot of historical record on display, so for those a bit oblivious to the bio of Ms. Earhart [*cough cough*] you may not come out with much more than you entered - though docents are in the house to answer questions. My kids' highlight was a bit of Earhart folklore - her homemade "roller coaster" in the backyard, essentially a plank angled from the roof's edge with a sliding seat for some cheap thrills. This was her idea of fun in the day. And we see where that took her. We timed 30 minutes, and we timed well. Note that if you are heading north, the Glacial Hills Scenic Byway has some most unexpected geography I wouldn't have expected in Kansas - I bet it'd look lovely from a plane too. read more

The Amelia Earhart Birthplace is a beautiful home overlooking the Missouri River. Once you enter the home through the front door, you can go on a self-guided tour of the home where various clippings and artifacts are arranged to tell the story of Amelia's life and mysterious death. The tour costs $5. As far as the artifacts themselves, I thought it was a bit of a hodge podge. It was hard to follow the story and it didn't seem to progress in a logical way. There was a mix of historic artifacts and more modern stories. There were also some rooms where there were cards and stories written from aviators today to Amelia. This is the kind of place you should definitely check out due to Amelia's impact on the world and the field of aviation, but you probably won't find yourself going back to. read more

Very disappointed in my return visit last Wednesday and I hope that some things change soon for the sake of the museum. Like many things in this little town, the museum is going downhill. I visited the museum 1.5 years ago and it was clean, well-kept and the manager was very knowledgeable and professional. I am not sure who the manager is there now, but my goodness, what a shame! I don't mean to be rude, but something is clearly off "upstairs." In addition, the museum stunk with some spicy concoction of food something horrible. AND, they raised their prices in addition! Hopefully, the museum will return to the standard it used to be with a professional, competent and mature manager. I feel sorry for the staff that tries to work there now. Just a shame what's happened to it. read more

For the serious fan only! Three dollars a person (12 and older) to walk through a semi-restored old house. This was her grandparents' house, and there are only a few things that actually have to do with Amelia Earhart here--most are reproductions and period pieces. The signage to find the house in Atchison is wretched--unless you know exactly where you're going you will be driving around in circles following the signs trying to find the house. read more
