Roughly 45 minutes to an hour. We were not prepared for this, so I thought it worthy of mention. This is an active military base and not an amusement park, so a security check was not unreasonable. Once on our way we were treated to what amounted to a small, but beautiful town. The Missouri River could be seen gently rolling by the fort. There were historical buildings, parks, statues, monuments, cemetery, museum and much more. Our main goal was to visit The Frontier Army Museum. The exhibits and artifacts at the Frontier Museum were so empowering. The life like exhibits left little to the imagination and gave a vivid impression of what life was like. We marveled at the collections and agreed it was a miracle any of it had survived. I later found out there are a group of people that have founded, 'The Friends of Frontier Army Museum'. It is their mission to conserve, restore and purchase artifacts. Promoting the Living History here at, Fort Leavenworth. We felt so privileged to be able to step back in time and experience this history. It will forever be remembered with fondness. The reason for the visit was to trace my ancestry from Santa Fe, NM to Missouri. We started off with a train ride from LA, stopping in Santa Fe, NM to begin our tour of the Santa Fe Trail. We then restarted our trip by jumping back on the train in Santa Fe and ending in Kansas City, Missouri. Here we rented a car and headed for Ft. Leavenworth. Footnote: Back in 1846 my 3x Great Grandfather Harden Manning and his brother Jerman (JHB), fought in the Mexican War. The brothers followed Price from Missouri and mustered out of Fort Leavenworth. They then went along the Santa Fe Trail until they reached Santa Fe, New Mexico. After fighting for many months in the harshest of conditions, they became ill and were discharged home to Missouri.

Unfortunately, it is a destination for work and the many hours I spend on post are work hours so the enjoyment factor is recuced quite a bit. However, I have had opportunity to take my camera around and capture some amazing photographs. The Grant statue, the chapel, and all the areas around the North side of post that most people on travel never see are simply beautiful. The streets are narrow and not much traffic by the airport area but there is much to see back there. The golf course is great too. Had a chance to play there and had fun with all the hills and long rough. They had great rates for golf and rental clubs,

They rolled out the red carpet for us, booked a step-on guide, helped us find the right hotel and then greeted us at all our locations. Both Rosalee and Kristi were willing to help out in any way possible. And I was very impressed that Rosalee greeted us on Sunday night. Leavenworth is full of hidden treasures. They also arranged a private luncheon for our group at the Community Center and we were given a fantastic presentation about the Harvey Girls after they had served us our delicious lunch!

They had put a chair over one hole, so safety first, I guess. Then I had booked my tee time online, and paid online. The employee behind the desk informed me that they didn't even HAVE a pay online option, even after I showed him the charge. Finally, he said he didn't care and that we could play for free. I informed it that it wasn't free because we had already paid. Anyway, got our golf carts. Both of them were in need of repair. While they ran, barely, the front tires pointed in different directions. Now sometimes this happens. But on two of the three carts available? The course was in crappy shape. We haven't had rain in a week and they obviously didn't take the opportunity to mow. Lost multiple balls in the "fairway". Between not being mowed and being over run with clover, it was a mess. The rough was waist high prairie grass. There were holes in the fairway, dirt patches and lots of weeds. Which is pretty much the way the greens looked too. It didn't appear the the greens had been mowed in over a week. Several of the greens even had pretty yellow flowers growing randomly on them. The sand traps didn't appear to have sand due to the amount of weeds growing in them. Seriously, 2-3 foot tall weeds in the traps. The steps leading up to several of the tee boxes were rotting and falling away. All in all, exactly what I've come to expect from not so Great Life courses. However, if you are new to the sport, or want to take your little kids out, this is the place for you. Just make sure you take plenty of balls because you are gonna lose them.

Our stay at 425 was a special time of our trip which we valued as equal to any of the attractions of KC. It was to converse and get to know Stephan and Carl, the owners. Here are the details: - This is a fine location that is close to attractions of KC: WWI Museum, Truman Library and Steamboat Arabia exhibit were our favorites. - Taking Lyft to dinner is quick and easy. (We enjoyed Q29 BBQ.) - The details I appreciated: coddled eggs served in beautiful coddlers, quality cutlery being placed perfectly (knife side in!), tasteful placement of antiques that give the room warmth and character. - Clean! I mused the bathroom floor was clean enough to eat off of... but I did not. - Attentive service! I brought back a six pack of ale and put into the cooler. At that time, there were only wine glasses standing by, but in the morning, Weizen glasses appeared in the collection. - I can't say enough of the quality! The food was real! Thick slices of real ham, fresh fruit; and even the capers were high end. There is a lot to see and do in KC. Sofie and I look forward to returning to the Inn at 425 to see our new friends Stephen and Carl! Maybe we will take a day and just sit out in the garden at 425. It's that kind of place!

Ten of us recently rented out the whole Inn for a Junior High School reunion. Carl and Stephan worked hard to make sure everything was just right for us. Every detail was perfect - the ornately welcoming Victorian home was an elegant, but homey place for us to come together, each of the rooms was sparklingly clean and perfectly decorated and the breakfasts were amazing. The last hotel charged one of the families an additional $1250.00 for 2 extra guests in the room. We showed them paid receipts from Cruise Holidays. They said they meant nothing since we didn't have receipts directly from the hotel. When I contacted Cruise Holidays they assured me it was a mistake. A few days later, they email me and tell me their 3ed party contractor that actually booked the hotel said we owed the money. The owner of the company was useless in getting this resolved. I filed a Small claims petition and filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. The BBB were able to contact the hotel corporate headquarters. After an investigation, they refunded our money. No help from Cruise Holidays at all.
