Cute little museum filled with a lot of interesting facts, exhibits & artifacts providing an excellent overview of it's history. You will start out by watching a short 10-15 minute DVD in the Pony ExpressTheater followed by a walk through with many interactive exhibits thereafter. It was self guided, which I liked so you can go at your own pace. Cute little gift shop to explore when you are done with the museum!

The Pony Express started on April 3, 1860 with a lone rider on horseback leaving the Pikes Peak Stables, here in St. Joseph, Missouri. I knew the Pony Express riders carried saddlebags filled with mail, messages, and peoples hopes and dreams, but I was surprised to learn they rode all the way to Sacramento, California...2000 miles away...!!! This little museum today rests within these stables and is a tribute to the legend and legacy of the Pony Express. There are tours ($6.00), and they are quite educational conveying the need, creation, operation and termination of the Pony Express. There is also a souvenir store with all kinds of trinkets and momentos.

We went to the Pony Express museum a couple of years back but as I recently created an account, I wanted to go back and leave a review with some pictures that I was able to take because the Museum was a wonderful visit. They had a movie room where we were able to learn of the history, then we were able to walk around and enjoy many of the fascinating exhibits they had within. I thought Kansas City was going to have near to nothing because my family kept on with how small a town it was and there was 'nothing' to do but I tell you this is surely something to see. We enjoyed the visit and I can't remember the exact price for ticket but I remember thinking it was well worth the visit. I even bought a little Squirrel ornament souvenir at the gift shop for my daughter and still cherish it dearly in remembrance of the trip!

I'm at work and I casually reference Jesse James to a co-worker and he asks - "Who is Jesse…read moreJames?". I couldn't believe that anyone didn't know about JJ, but growing up in Samoa without a TV left my friend out of the loop. I immediately told him - "Saturday we are educating you on a local legend that became internationally renown". My friend, his wife and I arrived at noon on a Saturday and paid $6 each for the bank museum tour. The guide was very friendly and laid a deep explanation of what Clay County and the James family were experiencing during and right after the Civil War. The weather the day of the robbery, the layout of the Liberty square, the medical and mental state of Jesse, who the bankers were and their reactions and actions all told while you see the clock set to the exact time and date of the event, hear the old wooden floor creak beneath you and are surrounded by artifacts or replica's of the items originally inside the bank; the description makes you feel that you are a witness to America's 1st daylight bank robbery. My friend and his wife are now sold on the legend of The James Family and want to see the house museums in Kearney and St. Joe now. A great inexpensive way to spend an hour or so and relive some of the areas infamous past. They also have a backroom with family and area artifacts. The gift shop is free to enter and shouldn't be missed by anyone traveling thru even if you don't have time for the tour.

The Jesse James Bank Museum is pretty darn cool. It was the site of the first daytime bank…read morerobbery, which was executed by members of the James gang. I had read about this robbery in a book, I believe, and now I was able to stand in the old bank building itself, which was really cool. They have restored it to the way it would have looked back in those days, and it's a great little stop to soak in some history of the area in and around Liberty. The woman who gave the tour was extremely friendly and enthusiastic about answering questions and talking about the history of the place. It made us want to further explore the James sites in the area, in Kearney and around Clay County. Having read about Jesse James and his terrorist gangs and how he came of age participating in the hatred, violence and strife during the Civil War and the period following, it's really interesting to physically be in the area and see some of these landmarks with your own eyes. Jesse James was not a hero, even though he's now somewhat romanticized as such. There is a lot of information in the back room of the museum, which displays some really great photos, documents and trinkets from the era. Up front is a gift shop and then there is the main bank room, with its vault open. You can really get a sense of place when you're here, and it's easy to imagine two bushwackers coming in and threatening the lives of the unarmed bankers. Bank robberies are a dime a dozen in movies, but when you see something like this in person it's very arresting. It's a cool experience. I would recommend the Jesse James Bank Museum to anyone with an interest in Missouri or American history. It's very affordable ($6 for adults, $3.50 for kids) and a pleasant and informative way to spend an hour or two. This location is a nationally registered historic place, so pitch in and help keep it going.

The last review was 11 years ago! it's time for an update:)…read more I signed up for the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise (LRBC), because my aunt loves it, the thought being it's an awesome experience, sharing something a love one is passionate about together. Let me tell you, I fell in love myself, and was totally hooked on The LRBC, within a few hours of stepping on the ship. The accommodations, food, staff are all wonderful. The cruise is always on Holland America's new ships. My cabin was fairly spacious with a lovely veranda. However, what really made the cruise were the people and the music! Music was going 24/7, and the talent was hot! I was able to dance my heart away day and night. Some nights I never went to bed. It was such an incredible experience, all that was needed was a few hours sleep here, a couple hours of sleep there. I made so many connections and friendships with fellow cruisers. There's quite a few cruisers and artists I've kept in close touch with, since coming off the ship in January. The vibe on the ship is warm, welcoming, and full of heart. I've already booked for January, 2026! One thing to note about booking is: it's almost impossible to get on the boat as a newcomer. The cabins are mostly booked out for the following year cruise, by the time you get off the boat. There are a few cabins that are left, after prior cruisers are done booking. If you want to get on the boat, make sure to sign up for email notifications on the LRCB web page. There will be an email sometime in late March/early April announcing cabins and waitlists to the public. If you get on your computer and refresh the bookings page right as it opens, or call right when the list opens, you may have a chance of getting a cabin, but if not, at least you'll be fairly high on the waitlist. 2025, #17

This Cruise is NOT for you ! You will absolutely HATE being in the Caribbean in January, exploring…read moretropical Islands and basking in the warm sunshine. Also, you will utterly detest the almost 24-hour a day live Blues music that is on this ship - it is just too noisy with the likes of Johnny Winter, Taj Mahal, Dion DiMucci, Keb Mo, Magic Slim, Tommy Castro, etc., etc. And, you will definitely despise hanging out and parting for a week with these same performers into the wee small hours of the night. So for the love of Zeus, please please stay away from this Cruise - I'm begging you !

I've have Jim of "Step Back In Time Tours" for all but one of my tours trying to save a little bit of money. That was the biggest mistake I ever made! Jim is so knowledgeable of the Old Order Amish that his 2 1/2 hour tour just flies by before I know it. Every time I go he gives some additional information that wasn't on the tour before so he keeps his tour fresh and very entertaining.
